5. Flooding of the Mondego
River
• The flooding of the Mondego River caused
two deaths and one disappearance, left
144 people homeless and 352 displaced.
With more than 11,600 occurrences,
mostly flooding and fallen trees.
6. Rivers overflow
The storms Elsa and
Fabien caused immense
damage.
Some of the damage was
made by certain rivers
overflowing.
Others became brownish
after the storms because
of the clay that flowed
from the hills.
7. Portugal was again the EU country with
the largest burnt area in 2019
• We had a total of 40,000 acres, with a greater burnt area than in 2018 that burned
37,357 acres.
