Our sense of touch is controlled by somatosensory system of nerve endings and receptors. There are different receptor types for touch, heat, pain, and position. Touch plays an important role in communication and bonding between humans. According to psychology, moderate touch releases oxytocin which makes us feel connected, as seen in mother-child bonding. Loss of touch sensation is called hypoesthesia and can occur due to aging, skin issues, or other causes, severely impacting quality of life.

5. • There are five senses in our body (vision, hearing, smell, taste
and touch.)
• Our sense of touch is controlled by a huge network of nerve
endings and touch receptors known as somatosensory system.
• The somatosensory system is responsible for all the sensations
we feel(cold, hot, smooth, rough, pressure, pain, vibrations
etc.)
• In our body, we feel our sensation of touch by receptors. Which
are present in our whole body skin.
• Our nervous system has a specific sensory nervous system to
detect sensation of body.
6. Touch is a powerful tool for communicating positive
emotions.
Touch is more versatile than voice and facial expressions.
According to Laura Guerrero:
“Touch also increase the
speed of communication b/w humans.”
“We feel more connected if someone touch us.”
EXAMPLE:
Handshake.
7. • When we touch something, our receptors and nerve
impulses carries the messages of touch from skin and
sends it to nervous system in which nerve impulses
send the message to brain and our brain sends
impulses towards spinal cord and then message goes
towards end organs to show reaction about touch.

8. • Mechano receptor (for movement)
• Thermo receptor (for detection of heat)
• Nocio receptor (for detection of pain)
• Propio receptor (for detection of position)
9. According to psychology:
Touch is in fact food.
With regards to bodywork and massage, skin
to skin contact.
When slowly and sensitively applied, it acts as
vital to our development as mother's milk.
10. The sense of touch, mediated through the skin.
Touch is the mother of the five senses, being the
earliest in evidence in embryonic development.
The eyes, ears, nose and tongue are all covered by a
type of skin with specialized nerve receptors which
interpret the “touch” of our environment as the other
four of our familiar five senses.
11. We also deduct behaviour and thoughts of individuals by
touch.
EXAMPLE:
A mother’s touch enhances attachment b/w
mother and child; it can signify security.
12. • The complete or partial loss of touch
sensation is called Hypoesthesia.
• Hypoesthesia also occurs due to aging.
• It also occurs due to Stiffness of skin and
Burning of skin.
13. • If we loss our sensation of touch, we will not able to feel
anything.
• We are not able to differentiate between joy and sorrow.
• Example:
• Our life will becomes like that painting which is
without colours.
• Life of individual without Love.
