Issues resource is easy to use to satisfy all information

• Global Issues in Context is one of their databases that
allows users to explore current international issues of
interest and all sides surrounding their arguments.

are documented within their site, so you can
conveniently scroll through and see what interests you
very easily!

• Verifying information and using trusted sources is an
important part of research and participation in life.
Understanding who is giving you the information and
what biases they might have is paramount.
• Global Issues in Context is a database comprised of
resources from others.When you click on a source that
you’re interested in, information about the author and
source of publication are available. Many sources also
have ”Article Commentary” that is provided before the
actual text, giving you a clearer idea to the background
of the authors and more context on the issue you’re
reading about.

Resource
• First, users will need to go to the Carnegie Library’s
main homepage: https://www.carnegielibrary.org/
• Once you’re at the library’s homepage, look at the top
right of the main page for the “Resource” tab. Click on
that to be taken to the Resource homepage.

• Find the grey “Find Resource” box in the middle of the page
• In the keyword box, type “Global Issues in Context” & hit search

• Click on the title of the resource, which will then redirect you to a log in
screen.This is where you will enter your Carnegie Library card number.

• Once you’ve typed in your library card number, you’ll be taken to the main page
of Global Issues in Context.
• Here is where you can perform your searches! If you’re interested in looking at a
global issue, such as “hunger” or “voting”, simply type the keyword into the
search bar and make sure “Global Issue” is selected in the drop down menu to the
left.

• For example, let’s say I am interested in learning more about Women’s
Rights on an international scale. I type “Women’s Rights” into the search
box & hit search.
• What first comes up is an overview on the topic, providing me with an
image and the option to ”Read More” on the overview.This is a great way
to get familiar with a new topic.

• Scrolling down a little, the “On
This Page” grey box lists the type
of resources available for the
topic. Images, news articles,
videos, academic journals,
magazines, and primary sources
to list a few are all available for
use, providing sources for all
levels of inquiry.
• Featured also are “Viewpoints”,
which is a collection of different
opinion articles on the topic of
women’s rights.This allows the
researcher to get a fuller picture
on the conversation surrounding
the topic.

• Not only can you search for “Global Issues”, but you can also search for Opposing
viewpoints on your topic of choice.
• For example, say you are a student writing a persuasive essay on Sustainable
Development and need arguments both for and against.
• Simply head back to the main page & on the drop down menu, select “Opposing
Viewpoints” and type in your topic in the search bar.

• Once you click search, 529 results for “OpposingViewpoints on Sustainable
Development” come up. From these results, you can refine them even further in
the “FilterYour Results” section, filtering by date published, subject, and
document type to name a few.
