2. WHAT IS GALE IN CONTEXT?
• A Biography Database, published and operated by Gale A Cengage
Company founded in 1998
• 600,000 biographical entries covering international figures from all time
periods and areas of study.
• Includes over 5,087 portal pages on contemporary and historical figures
• Reference content including;
• videos
• audio selections
• Images
• primary sources
• magazine
• journal articles from hundreds of major
periodicals and newspapers

3. HOW TO ACCESS
• Gale in Context is a subscription web-based database that is
free to you as a Chicago Public Library patron.
• To access the database, follow these steps:
• First log into your account Chicago Public Library.
• Log in/ My CPL > use your library card number & pin to sign in >
Browse > By Audience > Teens > Online Resources for Teens >
Biography (Gale in Context)

4. HOW TO USE THIS RECOURSE
If you have a specific person, you're
researching you can search by their name.
From your results you can identify what
type of reference materials you want
to review, either Academic Journals,
Videos, Articles &/or Biographies
After narrowing the search, you can apply
filters and sorters to your results based on
relevance, publication date, etc.
Unsure who you want to research, browse
people of interest, or browse by categories.

5. SEARCH TOOLS
• Advanced Search
• Use Search terms, filter by content type, publish
date,
• Person Search
• If you forgot the name of the person you want
to research by know key things about thing, you
can use Person Search, by applying "Search
Limiters" you might be able to find who you are
looking for!
• Publication Search
• Browse Publications, filter by date of publish
• Topic Finder
• Search by Topic and Gale will visualize your topic
