Diegetic
Diegetic sound is any sound
presented as originated from source
within the film's world. Diegetic
sounds are those that link to
something visible on screen, and
can also be heard by the characters.
This includes dialogue and the
sounds of objects/things on screen.
With the use of diegetic sound, our
group will create realism, by
including footstep sounds when
characters are walking and the
sound of a door slamming when a
doors are being closed etc.
Non diegetic
Non-diegetic sounds are sounds that
aren’t visible or been implied to be
present in the action. This could be
narration, ambient sound, mood
music and sound effects which is
added for the dramatic effect.
We will use non-diegetic sounds by
using depressing and sad mood
music, in scenes where the
character is shown being abused
and bullied by others characters.
Asynchronous
Asynchronous sound effects are not
matched with a visible source of the
sound on screen. Such sounds are
included so as to provide an
appropriate emotional nuance.
We will use Asynchronous sounds
when the character is walking along
a pathway, and sounds of noisy
traffic and people talking will be
present in the background by using
this it will create tension, as the
viewer will hear the sound but not
see its source.
Sound Bridge
Sound Bridge is a type of sound
editing that occurs when sound
carries over a visual transition in a
film. This type of editing provides a
common transition in the continuity
editing style because of the way in
which it connects the mood, as
suggested by the music, throughout
multiple scenes.
We will have Sound bridge when
we transitions from different
scenes, for example when she
leaves school and walks home,
there will be a sad soundtrack in
the background, this will match the
mood of the short filmand will
allow the audience to sympathise
for her, while also showing
continuity.
Foley
Foley is the reproduction of
everyday sound effects that are
added to film, video, and other
We will have Foley as there will be
door knocking sounds and also the
door slamming shut.

Dialogue
Dialogue is a conversation between
two or more people as a feature of a
book, play, or movie.
We will have dialogue throughout
the our short film, there will be
some in the beginning and also we
will have some near the middle and
end.
Narration
A commentary delivered to
accompany a film, broadcast. In
movie such as Dr Seuss ‘How the
Grinch stole Christmas’

Silence
Silence is the lack of audible sound
or presence of sounds of very low
intensity. By analogy, the word
silence can also refer to any absence
of communication or hearing,
including in media other than
speech and music.
We will not have complete silence
as because we will either have
ambience sound in the background
or we will have a slow paced
soundtrack.
Rhythmic
Sound
A rhythmic movement or sound is
repeated at regular intervals,
forming a regular pattern or beat.

Ambient sound
Ambient sound (ambience,
background noise) means the
background sounds which are
present in a scene or location.
Common ambient sounds include
wind, water, birds, crowds, traffic.
Ambient sound is very important in
video and film work.
We will have ambient sound when
the main character is walking
through the pathway on their way
home, this will create a sense of
realismand also it will be more
intense as the character will look
lonely and there is almost silence.
Cutting to
soundtrack
Editing/cutting to soundtrack is
when the pace of the cuts are
motivated by how fast the song is .
What I mean by that is that the
editor will let the soundtrack be his
guide.

Transitions:
Cut
A cut is an abrupt, but usually trivial
film transition from one sequence to
another. It is synonymous with the
term edit, though "edit" can imply
any number of transitions or effects.

Transitions:
Dissolve
A dissolve is a gradual transition
from one image to another.
Generally, but not always, the use of
a dissolve is held to indicate that a
period of time has passed between
the two scenes.

Transitions:
Fade
A fade to black or the next scene. A
fade to black is the most dramatic
transition found on this list. A fade
to black is essentially a dissolve into
black. In film, a fade to black is used
to symbolize completion, meaning a
narrative thought is finished.
We will have a fade to black at the
end as the problem is over and our
character decides to get help, then
the screen will fade to black with a
soundtrack playing in the
background.

Wipe
A wipe is a type of film transition
where one shot replaces another by
travelling from one side of the
frame to another or with a special
shape
