7. Short History of CPEC
• CPEC is a collection of projects.
• CPEC was formally conceived in May 2013.
• PM Li Keqiang officially visited Pak on 22
May 2013.

8. • Later Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
made visits to China to discuss the
Importance of this project.

9. • President Xi Jinping visited Pak in April
2015,During his visit, the two countries
signed fifty one agreements at an estimated
value of $46 billion.

10. • It is a 3000 km long extensive network
Of roads, railways, pipelines and optical
fiber cable network.

11. • CPEC will link Kashgar in northwest
China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous
Region & southwest Pakistan’s Gawadar Port.

transportation cost and delivery time.

transportation cost and time increases,

• Afghanistan can be connected to western alignment
of CPEC from Chaman and eastern alignment with
Peshawar from Jalalabad.
• CPEC will provide shortest and most cost effective
route for landlocked Afghanistan to China, India and
Indian ocean.
• Approx. 600km less as compared to the other nearest
port of Chabahar.

individual sector of the economy after agriculture.
 The construction industry in Pakistan is
heterogeneous and enormously complex.
 There are several major classifications of construction

• Karachi – Peshawar Motorway of 6-Lane
access controlled Motorway having total
length of 1,100 Km.
• Estimated Cost (US $2,846 Million)

37. Havelian Dry Port
• Pakistan Railway network exist upto Havelian
Railway Station situated at more than 680 Kms
from Khunjrab (China border).
• Estimated Cost (US $40 Million).
• Transshipment arrangement will be provided at
Havelian for loading / unloading on railway
wagons.

39. Coal-Fired Power Plants At Port
Qasim Karachi
• It is one of the largest Priority Implementation
Projects in the energy sector of the China
Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
• The Project is located in the Port Qasim
Industrial Park, 37 km southeast of Karachi,
• The total investment of Project is
approximately 2.085 billion USD

41. Thar Coal power station
• The Thar Coal power station with a net-worth
of US$ 2 billion is one of the major projects
in CPEC.

42. Employment opportunities
under CPEC
• According to an article that appeared in the
Nation newspaper of 6th June 2017, these
harvest projects created around 38000
proposed jobs, out of which around 8000 (less
than 25%) were given to the Chinese workers
while remaining 30,000 jobs provided direct
employment opportunities for Pakistani
engineers and workers.
