2. Audience feedback is important to the film industry, and other media industries in general,
because it helps to highlight areas for improvement and areas of strength.
The film industry spend a lot of money on test and press screenings so they can see what needs to
be changed in their films and to get out good reviews of their film before the opening weekend so
it will earn more at the box office. The market research is crucial in finding out what the target
audience are interested in and what entices them to go to watch and stay watching a film.
The audience for our film are 15-24 year olds of both genders as this is the typical audience of
psychological thrillers like Inception and the Butterfly Effect. They are also the age group that
spend the most money in the cinemas and they tend to make up most of the audience of films of
this genre.
3. We asked our audience for feedback in 2 main stages.
The first stage was after our first draft of the roughcut. This was before the
soundtrack and colour correction was done.
The second stage was once the poster, magazine cover and teaser trailer were
completed.
4. Initial Feedback
This was our initial feedback. From this we
changed the colour on the video so that it was
more appropriate and we made our montage
sequence more fast paced because, as it was
pointed out, it was too slow for the psychological
thriller.
We also made the whole trailer shorter
Once we added the soundtrack it improved the
whole quality of the trailer and it highlighted the
genre of the film
5. Teaser Trailer Feedback
We looked at comments left on our videos, and from these we know what aspects
of our trailer were good and which we would need to change if we had more time
or did this task again.
6. Poster and Magazine Feedback
We learnt that our use of font in each product was very good
and consistent throughout, but that the colour correction on
the building could have been better and more effective. We
could have made the colours either more realistic colours or
more blue to highlight our point.
It was also good that our protagonist was present in each of
our products so it was clear to the audience who he was.
Although in our teaser trailer the colours could have been
more blue, and the flickering effect may have been overused.
