Dominic Toretto is sentenced to prison in the opening scene of Fast Five. Close ups show his emotion and that of his family members witnessing the sentencing. He is put on a prison bus traveling down a deserted road, when suddenly other cars appear dramatically with loud engines. Quick cuts and intense sounds build excitement for the high-speed action to come in the film.

1. Opening scene analysis
Fast Five: The opening scene of fast five shows the main character
Dominic Toretto (vin diesel) getting sentenced to jail in the
courthouse. It opens with a close up which shows his emotion and
reaction to what is being told to him the sound of strings is played
over this which gives it a very sympathetic and dramatic feel; it
creates sadness to make the audience feel the same as the character
in the film. It fades gently to his close family and friends as they
watch his sentence it is a close up of two characters in the same
frame which shows there closeness and there emotion as they
witness the unfortunate situation. You can see the female’s tears fall
down her face, which immediately gives her a connection to the
character. It then fades again to a low angle mid shot of the prisoners
moving location and getting on the prison bus with the music playing
through out out these shots but in the next shot it is a wide shot of
the bus traveling down a road it gives the viewer a sight into the
surroundings and shows that the desertedness of it means its far
away and away from civilization. The sound of percussion is played
which gives the sense of that something dramatic is going to happen.
It moves to a shot of the back of the bus and shows cars appearing
and the sound of the engine is intense and loud to make a dramatic
appearance this makes the audience surprised and makes them jump
to show them how powerful they are. After this the shots begin to cut
very quickly which relates to the speed of the cars and how the film is
going to be the sound of intense loud engines continues throughout
but with the added sound of strong percussion to add to the intensity.
