Ellen Licht grew up as a third culture kid
in West Africa and is multi-lingual. In
addition to teaching classes from literacy
through advanced academic writing, she
has been actively involved in all aspects of
the expansion and development of the
Non-Credit ESL program at Santa Rosa
Junior College in Northern California,
including events planning, teacher
training, and curriculum and materials
development. She also co-coordinates the
program at SRJC.
Marti Estrin has worked as an ESL instructor, program coordinator and
teacher trainer for over 30 years, beginning her career teaching ESL in
East LA. For the past 18 years, she led the noncredit ESL program at
Santa Rosa Junior College as it grew by 180% into a complex program
with varied components to meet the needs of second language learners
and their families throughout Sonoma County -- all of which led to an
improved transition rate of over 45% of noncredit students matriculating
to credit ESL. Marti also coordinated the Noncredit ESL WIOA grant
which generated over 3 million dollars over the past 10 years.
