2. Carmen Vázquez-Vigo
She was a writer and translator of children's literature. She was
born in Buenos Aires in 1923 and her parents were Spanish.
She studied Performing Arts in her hometown. In 1947 she moved
to Spain, where she married the director José María Forqué and
worked as a theater actress. She began to publish her own texts
in 1963 (‘Mambrú did not go to war’).
Her fluency in English, French and Italian allowed her to work in
the translation of children's books (‘Atalanta’, ‘The Scarecrow's
Daughter’, etc.). She collaborated in the children's magazine
‘Bazar’ (1960 and 1965) and wrote radio scripts with staged
stories for ‘Radio Exterior’ of Spain between 1978 and 1980.
The name of this writer is closely linked to the first collection of
children's books that was created in Spain in 1978: ‘El Barco de
Vapor’, by Ediciones SM. In this collection she published some of
her best-known titles, such as ‘Caramelos de Menta’ (Lazarillo
Prize in 1973) and ‘Un monstruo en el armario’, for which she
received the National Prize for Children's and Young People's
Literature in 1992.
In 1977 she won the AMADE Award for Children's Theater with
‘Aire de Colores’.
She passed away on March 23, 2018.
3. La pandilla de Pepito, Quique, Curro y El Chino se acaban de encontrar a Dragón: un
perro que, aunque no tiene raza, es muy simpático. Lo malo es que ha destrozado 16
docenas de huevos de la tienda de don Joaquín. Además, han destrozado su toldo nuevo
sin querer.
Don Joaquín está hecho una furia y quiere que le den el dinero de esos destrozos: 1.500
pesetas. Estos cuatro amigos harán lo que sea necesario para conseguir un dinerillo:
pasear los chihuahuas de doña Virtudes, vender caramelos...
Al final conocen a un hombre que es el verdadero dueño de Dragón. Lo perdió hace un
año y quiere recuperarlo. Como recompensa por haberlo cuidado tan bien, el hombre les
da cinco mil pesetas. Todos se alejan tristes por dejar a Dragón, pero alegres porque
ahora tienen dinero para don Joaquín y para ellos.

4. Pepito, Quique, Curro and El Chino’s gang have just met Dragon: a very nice half-breed
dog. What is wrong with the dog, is that Dragon has destroyed 16 dozen eggs of Mr.
Joaquin’s shop. Besides, they have accidentally broken his new awning.
Mr. Joaquín got real angry and he wants them to give him the money to repair these
damages: 1.500 ‘pesetas’. These four friends will do whatever is necessary in order to
get a little money: walk Mrs. Virtudes’ Chihuahua dogs, sell sweets….
At the end, they met a man who is Dragon’s real owner. He lost him a year ago and he
wants Dragon back. He gives the boys 5000 ‘pesetas’ for taking good care of the dog.
They all get away really sad to leave Dragon, but happy because they have money to
pay Don Joaquin and for themselves.
