Virginia Woolf...
 The English novelist, critic,
and essayist Virginia Woolf
ranks as one of England's
most distinguished writers
of the middle part of the
twentieth century.
 She widely admired for
her technical innovation in
the novel,most notably her
development of stream of
consciousness narrative.
To the Lighthouse...
 This novel remains as Woolf's autobiographical novel.
This novel covers one family but talks about the
general family and that family is Ramsay’s Family.
 In 'To the Light house' Woolf sought to come to term
with her parents stifling Victorian marriage and events
of her own childhood,as well as to explore such
feminist issue as the necessity or even desirability of
marriage for women and the difficulties for woman in
pursuing carrier in the arts..
 The novel surrounded with the life of Mrs. Ramsay
and her family. Mrs. Ramsay is traditional woman who
believe in life, marriage, formality, etc. Mrs. Ramsay
devoted her life to her husband Mr. Ramsay.
Mrs. Ramsay...
 Mrs. Ramsay is a superwoman. She
is the central figure and the most
important character in "To the
Lighthouse".
 She dominates the novel not only
during her life time but even after
her death with no less importance.
Her unexpected death leaves the
Ramsay family without its anchor.
 Mrs. Ramsay was, no doubt,
advanced in age and the mother of
the eight children, still she
possessed great physical charm and
attractiveness.
To be continued...
She has abundant feminine graces. She is polite and
cultured in her manners, and kind and considerate in her
temperament. She is absolutely free from all egotism and
is never in a mood to assert herself.
She is a wonderful hostess who loves to create
memorable experiences for the guests at the summer
home on the Isle of Skye. Hence her graceful manners
and kind disposition combined with her extraordinary
physical charm cast a healthy spell on all who came in
contact with her.
She was Dominates Even After Death. We feel the
imposing physical presence of Mrs. Ramsay only in the
first part of the "To the Lighthouse". After that she is no
more in the land of the living.
Lipstick under
my Burkha...  Lipstick Under My Burkha is a
2016 Indian black comedy film
written and directed by
Alankrita Shrivastava and
produced by Prakash Jha..
 The film premiered at the Tokyo
and Mumbai Film Festivals,
where it won the Spirit of Asia
Prize and the Oxfam Award for
Best Film on Gender Equality.
 The film turned out to be both
a critical and commercial hit at
the box office.
 The film received two
nominations at the 63rd
Filmfare Awards, including Best
Film (Critics) and Best
Supporting Actress for Ratna
Pathak.
About Movie...
Four women, Four
stories, and all of
them are linked by
desires, craving for
affection, breaking
free from social
norms, the battle
within to achieve
bliss.
A city on edge of
getting modernised
but mindset of the
people isn’t too
willing to adjust.
 The charming story has been carefully
narrated by the writer with a lot of tenderness,
sadness and sexual truthfulness with hilarity.
 All four women are staying in same environs
and share an silent bond of fighting a never ending
battle to be happy in their life.
 All of them want to break free, breaking
free from their conservative families and from a
sexist society that forces them to toe the line.
 The writer Alankrita Shrivastava has very
carefully shown sexuality without a bit of
impropriety.

Characters...

Sharma)

door to door sales woman
without the knowledge of her
husband.

his affection and care.

beauty parlour

Muslim boyfriend with whom she has
sexual relations too and planning to
escape at the first chance.

loves to read erotic fictions at
nights.
She falls in love with a
swimming instructor and
indulges in phone sex with him
through a fictional character
called Rosy who becomes the
main protagonist in the movie.
Rosy becomes the symbol for
everything that the four woman
ever wanted to have.
 The Burkha that is mentioned in the
movie is actually the stigmas
associated with religions and all the
four women in the movie have
been trying to shed it off, whether
material, emotional or cultural.
 The movie ends in a very honest
note where it has been shown that
nurturing dreams is an offence for
women in small towns even today.
 The film highlights the patriarchal
society where a woman cannot
follow her heart and fulfill her
desires. It gives us the image that
though we still call ourselves people
from the 21st century.
 Still prevails a huge
narrowmindedness in our society
and it continues to be the one who
only feels a lady is born to be
supressed.
To conclude... Mrs.
Ramsay
 Mrs. Ramsay have not
single desires for herself.
 Mrs Ramsay accepts
the patriarchal thought.
 Mrs Ramsay has
Victorian mindset,
according to her,women
should be 'ideal'; best wife,
mother, and daughter only.
 Movie
Characters
 Four women's full of
desires.
 In the movie,female
characters are not follow
the patriarchal beliefs...
 Female characters of
the movie suggests the
modern mindset, women
are aware about their
identity, they wants to be
independent.
 The film is about
women's quest for freedom,
female characters are fighting
for their freedom. Whereas
Mrs. Ramsay is static, she
doesn't want to change her
situation.
 Lipstick, in the sense of
freedom of women and
burkha is the resistance of
the freedom, as it is
lighthouse gives the path,
who has losts their path.
 In the film, women make
their own identity, but Mrs
Ramsay is known as only Mrs
Ramsay, we even don't know
her name.
