2. Ownership
Celador films was taken over by Complete Communications which brought out share
holders such as Paul Smith and Jasper Carrot. It was formed in 1983 by Paul Smith. Its
best well known for co-producing “Slumdog Millionaire” the other thing it is well
known for is “Who Wants Be A Millionaire”.
3. Operating Model
This is basically how Celador films works to create films, and because of it being such a
small company they hire a certain amount of people per project, and they work on a
project by project basis. The different jobs that can be available for one project is stuff
like a cleaner and a caterer. They also do this for jobs like accountants incase they have
different legal problems money wise. Basically if Celador film were a bigger company
they would not use the technique to make films as much as they do now. Also wheb
the film has been made it will be sold to different distributors so then they can
advertise it and sell it in different countries.
4. Products
Here are the films that Celador Films have produced over the years.
• Dirty Pretty Things (2002)
• Separate Lies (2005)
• The Descent (2006)
• Slumdog Millionaire (2009)
• The Descent 2 (2009)
• The Scouting Book for Boys (2010)
5. Market Position
Celador films is considered quite low down in the film industry because of all the
Hollywood film companies that actually exist. Celador has only took part in making 6
films so this is one of the main reason they are so set back against all the other big
Hollywood companies and some bigger companies that are run from the UK. Because
of celador films being a UK company they don’t have a massive lot of money to spend
on loads of high budget films. But because the films they make have such low budgets
they almost always make a profit in the box office because the quality of the films they
make are actually really good.
6. Competitors
The main competitors for celador films will all be in the UK because Hollywood films
and just US films in general fit into their own category. So celador’s main competitors
are companies like Film4 films and DNA Films. DNA Films are mainly associated wih
making films like 28 days later and Love Actually. Film4 is also a massive competitor
because of the producing such films as 127 hours and 12 years a slave.
