2. • To develop and deploy research infrastructure, and an associated
control framework for experimentation, in Europe and Brazil, that
enables experimental research at the convergence point between
optical and wireless networks
Goal
July 3, 2017 2
3. • To interconnect testbeds from Institutions of different countries in
a federated manner, an API capable of interact and connect
resources with a single virtual identity per user is required
Federation

4. • To expose heterogeneous resources in a standardized manner
enabling remote experimenters to develop their own experiments
based on optical and wireless devices, a convergent control
framework is required

5. • To do a step further in research revolving the convergence of
optical and wireless network, five experiments in FUTEBOL were
created as a proof-of-concepts

7. • Efficiency gains in moving the locus of computing away from the end
device and towards the cloud
• Cloud – centralized process in remote data centres, able to easily scale processing and
data storage at low cost
• Fog – bring processing closer to the end user, to reduce delay
• Mist – use the actual devices that comprise the network to perform the processing
• We are particularly interested in the role the network can have in
making these decisions dynamically
