2. RESEARCH
The genre of what I am hoping to film is horror. They often
deal with viewers fears or nightmares of the unknown. The
plot is generally of the supernatural origin in to the everyday
world. Sometimes the horror genre overlaps with fantasy and
thriller genres.
Generally they are set in isolated areas such as the woods,
old houses or churches as this contrasts with the idea of a
church being a safe place.
3. PLOT IDEAS
• Plot idea 1: set of teenagers are
sat having a camp fire in a field
when it starts raining so they run
and shelter under more trees
when they hear a scream and a
dog barking. They go to explore
to find a woman killed and her
dog stood barking around her.
They run to find help when a male
dressed in dark clothes stop them
in their tracks to ask where they
are running to, he tries to grab
one but they think they get away
until they turn around to one
person missing.
• Plot idea 2: 2 sisters are looking after
an elderly ladies house while she is
away for the week visiting her sister in
Australia. While the sisters are getting
to sleep they hear doors slamming and
somebody on the creaky stair case
they think nothing of it as they think its
just the other sister getting up.
However the next night they share a
room and both hear it. They get up to
see nothing but hear children laughing
and playing, they investigate it to be an
old children's home in the Victorian
times when lots of children died and
their souls remained.
5. LOCATION
Plot 1:
For plot one I was thinking
about filming it in some
woods. Possibly in the
Tameside area or somewhere
else which is dark and open
spaced for people to run and
able to start a small camp fire
Plot 2:
For plot 2 I was thinking about
filming it in an old house/building
where can be portrayed as a house
which was a children's home. Some
may also be filmed in a library
somewhere in Tameside for when the
sisters are tracking down the history
of the house.
6. TYPICAL DIRECTION
Usually in horror movies they have low key lighting with a
mixture of fast pace editing and also slow pace as they want
to build up tension about what is going to happen but when
something is happening it will suddenly change to fast
paced. This is usually achieved with jump cuts to confuse the
audience. The make up of the actors will be natural as there
are no actual supernatural presence in the trailer just
connotations of them. They usually use close ups to show
the emotion of the subject or they use establishing shots to
show the supernatural presence.
7. ANCILLARY TASKS
I will link all of the tasks together by using a consistent
house style throughout. There will be an emphasis on the
main characters in all of the tasks and use fonts which are
similar and also which are linked with the genre of horror, all
of these will help the audience associate all of the tasks
together.
8. WHAT WILL I NEED?
I will need to be able to find a suitable location and have
permission to use the location to film in. I will also need to be
able to find good actors for the cast. I will need to be able to
show a clear beginning middle and end of the film so the
audience will find it easy to understand. A high quality
camera will be needed to be able to film the trailer and will
need a good editing software. To make the sound effects I
will need to be able to use a software which will help me
create a score so I would need to use a software such as
garage band.
