1. Unit 4 – Digital Audio Extract
Radio 1 – Breakfast Show (5 minutes)
2. Music
• I think that the purpose of music at the beginning is to wake up the audience in a
way of them getting up or enjoying the music whilst they are doing something for
example driving or getting ready for school or work. I can infer this because the
type of music that has been played is has a fast beat and has a high tempo and
rhythm for you to move about. Furthermore, I can suggest that the target
audience is from young teenagers to adults. I know this because of the type of
the type of music that is on the playlist on the Radio. I think that the music has
been specifically chosen. This is because it is there to create a specific type of
mood.
3. Jingle
• I think that the purpose of a Jingle is to inform you of the show and what it's
gonna be about. In this radio extract, it announces the radio station's name and
where it's from. This means that it gives the audience and listeners knowledge of
where the radio station is broadcasted from. Also in the jingle, it says “everyone
wake up” many times. This suggests that the show is broadcasted in the in the
morning. personally , i think that its aim is to engage the audience with the
broadcast. In the jingle it also has Harry Styles the celebrity saying something.
This means that it will engage the target audience as many young people listen to
Harry Styles’ music.

4. Announcements
• I think the purpose of Announcements is to make the audience get in involved for
many reasons. One reason could be that you can enter a competition to win a big
prize. This can be seen as entertainment because the audience will be
entertained by entering these competitions. Also, announcements can be telling
or inviting the audience to an event that will be happening. This means that it's
engaging the audience with what’s going on and it tells the audience to get
involved with the activities and events that they would be hosting. Furthermore,
this means that it may increase the amount of people that enter the
competitions.
