1. Radio proposal
I have won an internship at a local radio programme show. For my first assignment I have
been asked to create a radio programme about the extra curriculum opportunities that are
available for students at a local school. I have been asked to get information from a student
in the programme; I will do this by interviewing the student. As I am based in a school I will
use Haverstock as a place to conduct my research and record my material.
Before I began I needed to research other audio products so I am aware of the conventions
used in a radio programme. I conducted research into all of the different types of audio
broadcast programmes. I researched the Nick Grimshaw breakfast show on BBC radio 1,
which is aimed towards to young people. My programme is about extra-curricular activities
which mean it’s also aimed at young people so it is only reasonable that I should research
this show. The content of the show was based around things which would interest young
people, and the music chosen to play would appeal to young people. They used styles of
music such as pop, hip-hop and dance music. I also noticed that jingles were used a lot in
the programme to break up the different sections and these were also in a pop or hip-hop
style.
My programme about extra -curricular activities will be in the style of a news feature so I
listened to the news that was played during the breakfast show. They used short jingles to
show when a different person was about to speak or the subject was about to change.
The presenters on the radio show often used slang words and only used vocabulary that
would be easily understood by young people. This is to make sure the listeners are all able
to identify what was said in the radio show.
To make my show successfully appeal to its target audience of young people I will need to
include these things in my programme. The topic I am discussing is relevant to young people
and I will select some music which I think would appeal to the target audience. I have a
piece of trap music in mind which I think would fit in and appeal to people my age. I can also
remix this music into a shorter version to use it as a short jingle in between topics to help
get on with the programme. When I will create the script I will make use to use language
that appeals to and is understood by people of my age group.
In my programme I will use effects to make it sound better for example if a clip if ending I
will make it fade it out towards the end so it doesn’t just end or if a clip is starting I will
make it fade in so it doesn’t just start, I will do this because it sounds better for the listeners.
The quality of the recordings should be good as im trying to make a radio programme so
everything has to be at a professional level. I will use the equalizer effect to make the sound
more clearer which makes the quality better. I will use compressor to make the volume all
the same. If I include all these elements the radio programme should be suitable for my
target audience.
