6. 1) What is Audit Under GST?
Section 2 (13) of CGST Act
“audit means the examination of records, returns and other documents maintained
or furnished by the registered person under this Act or the rules made thereunder or
under any other law for the time being in force to verify
the –
correctness of turnover declared,
taxes paid,
refund claimed and
input tax credit availed, and
to assess his compliance with the provisions of this Act or the rules made
there under.”

7. Books of Accounts to be maintained under GST-
35. (1) Every registered person shall keep and maintain, at his principal place of
business,
as mentioned in the certificate of registration, a true and correct account of—
(a) production or manufacture of goods;
(b) inward and outward supply of goods or services or both;
(c) stock of goods;
(d) input tax credit availed;
(e) output tax payable and paid; and
(f) such other particulars as may be prescribed:

8. Requirement of Registration-
Section 44(2) Every registered person who is required to get his accounts audited in
accordance with the provisions of sub-section (5) of section 35 shall furnish,
electronically, the annual return under sub-section (1) along with a copy of the audited
annual accounts and a reconciliation statement,
reconciling the value of supplies declared in the return furnished for the financial year
with the audited annual financial statement,
and such other particulars as may be prescribed.

9. 1) Who is required to get book of accounts audited?
In terms of section 35(5) “every registered person whose turnover during a financial
year exceeds the prescribed limit shall get his accounts audited by a chartered
accountant or a cost accountant and shall submit a copy of the audited annual
accounts, the reconciliation statement under sub-section (2) of section 44 and such
other documents in such form and manner as may be prescribed”.
In terms of Rule 80(3) of the CGST Rules “every registered person whose aggregate
turnover during a financial year exceeds two crore rupees shall get his accounts
audited as specified under sub-section (5) of section 35 and he shall furnish a copy of
the audited annual accounts and a reconciliation statement, duly certified, in GSTR 9C,
electronically through the common

10. QUESTIONS:
1) If XYZ Ltd has two units one in Maharashtra which has turnover of Rs. 3 Crores and one
in Gujarat which has turnover of Rs. 1.5 Crores whether it is required to get GST Audit
done in Gujarat?
2) ABC Ltd’s turnover from April-June 2017 is Rs. 35 Lakhs and from the period July 2017 –
March 2018 is Rs. 170 Lakhs whether it is required to get GST Audit done for FY 2017-18
3) Whether GST Annual Return is to be filed by those who have cancelled their registration
in FY 2017-18?
4) If total turnover of ABC ltd is Rs.190 Lakhs, however branch transfer amounts to Rs. 20
lakhs. Whether it is required to get GST audit done if :
a) Both the Branches are in Maharashtra?
b) If One is not Maharashtra and other in Gujarat?
