Hidden Curriculum :
Meaning:
A hidden Curriculum is a sided effect of schooling, “Lessons which are
learned but not openly intended” such as the transmission of norms, values, and beliefs
conveyed in the classroom and the social environment.
Definition:
According to Raymond Horn,
“Hidden Curriculum is a broad category that includes all of the
unrecognized and sometimes unintended Knowledge, values and beliefs that are a part of the
learning process in schools and classrooms.”
According to Thomas Silva,
“Hidden Curriculum as that which includes all those aspects of the school
environment that without being part of the official explicit curriculum contribute implicitly to relevant
social learning. Attitudes, behaviors, values and guidelines are learned in the hidden curriculum.”
According to Michael Haralambos,
“The Hidden Curriculum consists of those things pupils learn
through the experience of attending school rather than the stated educational objectives of such

5. Guidelines & Code of Conduct :
Although The Dhirubhai Ambani International Model United Nations is an
educational exercise intended for young people, delegates are simulating the Councils,
Commissions and Conferences of the United Nations. Thus, for the period of the conference, they
must be regarded as diplomats and ambassadors for the country they are representing, as well as
representatives of their individual schools. This demands a high standard of personal conduct and
behavior from all delegates, both during the conference sessions and outside it.
It is extremely important that for the continuing good relations between
DAIMUN, the Conference Center, the City of Mumbai and the local diplomatic and business
communities, delegates behave appropriately at all times.
Therefore, schools are expected to select only students who will actively
participate, and not cause disciplinary problems. This is important not only for the good name of
DAIMUN, but also for the reputation of the school concerned.
School Administrators and MUN-Directors should be aware that attendance at
the annual session of DAIMUN is by invitation and that this invitation may be withheld from schools
unable to ensure that their students conform schools unable to ensure that their students conform
to accepted standards of adult behavior.
MUN-Directors' Responsibilities and Conduct:
All students must be accompanied by, and are the responsibility of, the
designated MUN-Director(s). A MUN-Director must be a teacher at the school, or at one of the
schools from which the delegation comes. At least two responsible adults (MUN-Directors or
chaperones) should accompany each outstation group, while small delegations or delegations from
local schools may be accompanied by only one teacher. All students staying in our guest house
must be supervised by their MUN-Director, and it is imperative for MUN-Directors to stay in the
same guest house with the students. It must be noted that it is essential for MUN-Directors and
supervisors to adhere to the dress code as well.
Conduct in the Conference Center:
Formal dress, i.e. the kind of clothes that real UN diplomats might be
expected to wear when attending UN sessions, is required at all meetings. In order not to cause
offence to other delegates, national dress, military uniforms and armbands are forbidden.
Delegates and teachers must be courteous at all times to the Convention Center Staff and to the
DAIMUN Organizational and Administrative Staff, most of whom are volunteers giving up many
hours of their own time to serve the delegates.
Conduct in our Guest House:
DAIS has made arrangements to provide accommodation at a reasonable cost
for schools coming from outside Mumbai. Delegates staying at the Swadeshi Complex are
expected to be polite & considerate at all times and to treat the facilities with respect. Students
are expected to remain in their rooms after 10pm.
6. Critical Thinking :
Effective Curriculum increases student’s understanding about the world around
them and prepares them to live in the 21st century.
It enlarges students experience and sharpens their awareness.
For effective hidden curriculum school use some strategies like:
Switch up the seating plan
Partner or Small group work
Offer structured recess activities
Use socially inclusive language
Role play situations where students can include one another
Set expectations for socially inclusive behaviour
Find ways to highlight student interests and strengths
Ensure that all students have an effective and appropriate way to
communicate
Provide places for students to meet and interact in your classroom
