2. WHAT IS A BIOSENSOR?
A device that uses specific biochemical reactions mediated
by isolated enzymes, immunosystems, tissues, organelles or
whole cells to detect chemical compounds usually by
electrical, thermal or optical signals. (©IUPAC)
What we seek from a biosensor?
• Small, compatible for the desired use.
• Ability to manufacture in large quantities and at low cost.
• Quick results with great precision.
• Autonomous calibration / measurement , Easy-to-use. A typical example of a biosensor is the
pregnancy test as we know it nowadays.
