3. MASTHEAD
Bold, White, and
recognisable placed
over the main
image on the left
hand side.
MAIN COVER
LINE:

feature of one of
the articles. Used
the colour black to
seem more eye
catching.

Tells us the
date it was
issued and the
price of how
much it costs.
BARCODE:
placed in the
bottom right hand
side corner along
with the other
pieces of
information.
CENTRAL
IMAGE:
Placed in the
centre to grab
our attention,
facial
expressions
usually go with
the main cover
line.
COVER LINES:
Tells us what some
of the main articles
are.
BRIBE:
Free posters make
the audience buy
the magazine
even more.
FOOTER:
Banner at the bottom
of the page.
4. MASTHEAD
Placed on the left hand side,
in bold, red letters, as this will
catch the audience’s
attention. Fits in with the
magazine’s house style
throughout the contents and
double page spread. I have
used this convention as it is
typical to see on most rock
magazines such as NME.
EYEBROW
I have made use of the
eyebrow by listing indie rock
singers and bands, to show
what one of the features are
going to be. Typically seen
on magazine covers..
CENTRAL IMAGE
I used a central image and
placed it more to the right
hand side, the model is also
looking straight ahead which
is on of the conventions. it is
also a midshot showing the
model from head to waist, as
the model looks like she is up
to something it portrays her
stereotype.
BARCODE
I placed the barcode on the
right hand side of the bottom
along with the issue date and
flipped it sideways as It suited
it more.
MAIN FEATURE
I placed the feature of the
main article here to show
who the singer is and
what it’s about I also
added a quote which is a
common convention
used.
6. NME have used the
title of the
magazine to
remind what we’re
reading, also tells
us this week and
the date of the
magazine.
A band index has
been used to
show the
different bands
and singers and
represents the
music genre.
Central image
tells us what
one of the main
articles are
going to be
about, along
with
information in
the anchorage
text.
Main cover lines
to categorise the
articles into
different section
so it’s easier to
find.
Subscription
box so you can
collect monthly
issues.
Graphic features
used to give
more of a
youthful
impression to
the target
audience.
Coloured text used
for the page
numbers and bold
text for the articles.
7. I used the
conventions
from NME
and decided
to write a
band index to
show the
range of
artists in the
rock genre.
I followed the
conventions of NME
by adding the title of
the magazine along
with writing This
week and adding
Contents so it was
recognisable. I also
used the same title
font ad colour
scheme. I also added
the date which is
easy to recognise in
most magazines.
I added a central
image to show
what the article
was going to be
about but
challenged the
conventions by
not adding
anchorage text
to give more
detail. Instead I
directed the
audience where
you would find
this article.
This is conventional in
contents pages by
having the list of
sections commonly on
the right hand side
going down. I also
used two different
colour schemes so it
was easy to
differentiate between
what is a article and a
what is a section.
9. Used a bold title to show who
they are writing about.
A standfirst to give you an understanding of
what the articles about.
A full bleed image of the band itself, looking directly into
the camera also giving us a main impression of what
stereotypical bands are like.
Pull quote in a different colour, very
conventional which I have used.
Drop cap used to start the article, here
they have used it twice whereas I
challenged this by using it once.
10. I used more text than image and followed this convention as the
layout from NME. When I was doing audience research they
preferred to have a full bleed image and more image than text. I
made my model pose to the side challenging the conventions of a
double page spread as usually they will be looking straight ahead.
I placed the Main title of the article on the right hand
side in big letters but made it less conventional as it is
not bold as there is just a plain red outline. Also a
different typeface used as the one on the cover
The decoration of the different shapes on the pages give a
more messy feel .
I followed the convention of NME by using two columns
going vertically down and using size 9 font. I also added
a drop cap to start off the article.
I used a stand first to give a little fact
about Gwen Stefani.
Pull quotes
used and
written in
red to
stand out,
a common
convention
used.
Footers
placed to
show
page
numbers
and date.

13. Q6: What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
During the process of creating my magazine, I had to use a wide range of programmes
that was available, such as:
• InDesign
• Photoshop
• Wordpress
• Google
Photoshop: Was a suitable programme for editing my pictures, especially
when getting rid of the shadows and backgrounds around my model. As I
was familiar with using Photoshop it was easy to browse the images on
bridge, and select the chosen pictures and edit them using, brightness
and contrast, and changing the levels. I also used the brush to make the
colour of my model’s lips more brighter and neater. The spot wand was
used to remove any spots and blemishes to make the picture more
flawless and professional. I found it tricky to get rid of the shadows as
it took quite a long time.
14. InDesign: This was a programme I used to construct my magazine
together, and was suitable for placing my images and texts on. As I had
used this for my preliminary exercise , I wasn’t that familiar with the
programme as I felt I hadn’t learned most of the functions, so it had
taken me quite a while to know how to use all the different icons. Once I
had got the hang of it, It was easy to use and access around college.
Wordpress: As part of my research and planning it was suitable I had an online blog, to upload all
my work onto. I was not familiar with using Wordpress, as using dashboard in particular was very
hard and technical. Once I knew how to add new posts, and locate them into the chosen categories
and place them onto the menu, it was very simple and quick. I would definitely use Wordpress again
as it is quick and easy, and useful to write in a written blog format.
15. Google: Was a useful programme to use as it was suitable
for researching the background information about Gwen
stefani and finding out about the different publishers such
as Bauer and FuturePLC.
A digital SLR camera was rented In
order for my shoot to take place. I was
familiar with using the camera and
changing the aperture and white
balance. I had to make sure my images
was taken portrait and taken from the
face to the waist down. The lighting was
important as no shadows was to be
reflected.
