Objective
4-Mat Content Trainer’s notes
Welcome. Greet the class participants and determined that they are in
the correct course. PRODUCT for content and navigation.
Icebreaker. Possible a icebreakers are to introduce individuals and have
them explain the current job role and the previous job role before the
PRODUCT merger. This icebreaker will lead in to the PRODUCT
solutions exercise for the first module. Since the first module will cover
workspaces and work flows, the instructor should request participants to
give examples of the types of clients that they service.
Objectives.
Identify the Target Markets & Audiences and recommend the
appropriate PRODUCT product for each.
Demonstrate common functionality, navigation & content for the
PRODUCT suite of products
Deliver an ‘Elevator Pitch’ style demonstration on PRODUCT
Agenda.

Connect. For the connect the instructor should create a flip chart sheet
to hold the concerns and expectations for each of the participants
dispense Post-it notes to list their individual concerns and expectations
and post them on the wall
Recommendation for the
agenda - individual placards
posted on the wall in the
correct order of the modules.
Recommended to include
breaks and lunch times as
individual placards.
Good Idea to explain that the
Trainer understand the desire
to ask questions that come up
during each module – like
entering a symbol with an
exchange code
However, participants should
write the question down to ask
it at the end of the module.
Chances are it will be covered
in the module or a future one.

Target market and work flows Matching Cards/Charts Participant Gd
Objective
After completing this Module/Topic the participant should be able to match the PRODUCT Segments to the Target
Market/job role that directly relates to each segment.
4-Mat Content Trainer’s notes
Why
What
How
To
What
If
Ask Participants – Why is it necessary to associate a job role to a specific
segment of the client market?
Ask participants if they believe that the job roles will be different in the
target markets for Company products as they are in the target markets for
Thomson products. Allow a short time for discussion then begin the
exercise.
Use details as laid out in the document Exercise 1 to have participants
assign the job roles to the Thomson segments. The exercise details
examples of where the job roles should fall in the Thomson segments.
The cards and placards will be arranged by the individual participants or
teams.
Pose this question to the participants “Can you think of any job roles as
we use them for Company products that do not fit into the segments as
they're used for the Thomson products?”
Allow for a short discussion and encourage explanations for the examples
given.
Use the Company Family of
Products table in the
Participant Guide to illustrate
how Company segments
clients.
This will work to show the
contrast with the Thomson
Segments being done with the
Workspaces instead of
Products.
NOTE – be sure to explain that
PRODUCT is one product that
provides workspaces (files &
Services) that meet the
segments needs. Company
has multiple products for
multiple client
segments/families.

The login used by internal users of PRODUCT is a Sales Demo log in and
provides access to all the workspace available for the individual
workflows/job roles. It will be useful for participants to quickly identify the
workspace for the client they are currently working with.
Instruct participants the purpose of the module will be to compare existing
Company products with existing PRODUCT workspaces.
Answer questions in participant guide. Participants can fill in the table with
their own idea of the services or products available from Company that
meet the same needs that the Thomson workspace meets. The
completed participant guide with the answers will include options for each
of the segments in the table.
Propose to the participants that there may be a workspace that does not
directly associate to a product or service available from Company. Ask
them what they would do for the client to meet the needs that is not met
by the Company product.
ANS – suggest contacting the Acct Mgr for other products that will meet
the clients needs fully.
Participants are required to
have their own login ID and
password.
However training IDs are
available if needed.
The website access to the thin
net client for PRODUCT is.
https://webaccess.thomson.com/C
itrix/MetaFrame/auth/login.aspx
This should be pre-loaded on
the training workstations.
The table exercise on page 3
should be filled in by the users
as best as they can with the
examples listed in the
participant guide. Not all
columns need to be filled is as
not all Client Trainers use all
products.

4-Mat Content Trainer’s notes
Why
What
How
To
What
if
The Flex Monitor helps users to monitor and manage lists of symbols
portfolios and indexes. Participants need to be familiar with the flex
monitor, because clients will frequently ask how to use and manage it.
Flex Monitor creates and displays different lists of trading instruments,
which can be saved, retrieved for future use, and shared. Lists can mirror
individual customer portfolios, baskets or industry groups.
DEMO -- Symbol lists Right-click in Flex Monitor > Symbol List > New.
Type a name for the new symbol list and click OK. To enter Symbols click
on a cell and type symbol. Drag symbol from another service.
DEMO -- Layouts for lists create, edit and delete. Delete allows you to
delete only the lists you created. Customize allows you to customize the
list of layouts in the drop-down.
DEMO -- List Manager - symbol lists manager allows you to create edit
delete and share lists, all-in-one pop-up window tool/service.
DEMO – Group Headers for sections in the monitor. Right-click in the row
immediately below where group header will appear. Choose Group >
Insert. Name the group header. Enter symbols. To rename a group
header Right-click on header > Group > Rename.
Move a group header Drag and drop header to new location. If dropping
in an active row click Yes to confirm replacement.
Delete a group header Right-click on header > Group > Delete.
Participants should do the exercises in the flex monitor module here,
including create a new symbol lists and import and sharing. However,
they should stop before going on to alerts.
How would the client copy a symbol list?
ANS -- If symbol list tabs are activated in Properties, copy a symbol list by
right-clicking its tab and clicking Save As.
Use this opportunity to
compare the Flex Monitor with
similar services in Company
Products.
It is not necessary to include
information about portfolio
warehouse. This topic will be
covered in the workflow
classes.
Flex monitor holds 1024
instruments per list. This is a
question in the participant
guide. It will probably come up
before participants get to the
exercises.

News Hands On Workstation Participant Gd X X X X X X X
Objective
After completing this Module/Topic the participant should be able to search and retrieve news stories using
symbols, news codes and keywords.
4-Mat Content Trainer’s notes
Why
What
How
To
What
if
PRODUCT Equity delivers reliable, timely news continuously. The
Scrolling Headlines window is a continuous display of headlines. Users
will need timely and relevant news throughout and beyond the trading day
to perform their duties.
Scrolling Headlines provides a continuous display of headlines from all
entitled news services, including DJ and Company News. News service
allows searching by symbol, category or keyword text.
DEMO – Scrolling headlines using the fixed service. Show the right click
properties to view properties for color and font. Also give an example of
News Sources and Codes to filter the service.
DEMO – News (or Co. News from the Trading Group, Co. News Page)
The Search tool should be demonstrated including; Symbol option allows
the user to choose the type of symbol e.g. Equity Preferred. Codes can
be looked up directly from the link for the Codes input box.
 Using AND in a search retrieves stories for all symbols/codes/text
entered
 Using OR in a search retrieves stories for either of the
symbols/codes/text entered
Date range can be customized or set to preset time frames.
Sources work the same as in Scrolling Headlines.
A client has created a detailed search using multiple search functions and
is concerned he may not remember how he did it if he needs to replicate.
The user can Save searches using the SAVE button. The saved searches
are stored in the users workspace for later use.
This module is a great
opportunity to show the
similarities between Thomson
and Company service e.g.
Scrolling Headlines & News
functionality
A list of codes can be found in
the Help index for news.
Remember to reinforce click
the service and using the F1
key to access the Help for that
service directly.

Ask participants if they believe that the job roles will be different in the target markets for Company products as they are in the target markets for Thomson products. Allow a short time for discussion then begin the exercise. Use details as laid out in the document Exercise 1 to have participants assign the job roles to the Thomson segments. The exercise details examples of where the job roles should fall in the Thomson segments. The cards and placards will be arranged by the individual participants or teams. Pose this question to the participants “Can you think of any job roles as we use them for Company products that do not fit into the segments as they're used for the Thomson products?” Allow for a short discussion and encourage explanations for the examples given. Use the Company Family of Products table in the Participant Guide to illustrate how Company segments clients. This will work to show the contrast with the Thomson Segments being done with the Workspaces instead of Products. NOTE – be sure to explain that PRODUCT is one product that provides workspaces (files & Services) that meet the segments needs. Company has multiple products for multiple client segments/families.
