MANAGEMENT SCIENCE DEPARTMENT
MGT214 OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
Prepared by: Ms. Dalal Bamufleh
Project Objectives:
The objective of the group project is to analyze an international
company’s operations management
and recommend solutions and suggestions for any problem that
this company is facing based on OM
concepts.
The project aims to achieve the following:
functions of the selected company
referencing style.
Project Description:
Working in groups of 5-6 students, select any international
company. First, you have to read about the
selected company and analyze their operations management. As
an operations manager, you are
requested to propose and suggest how could they solve
problems (if they have) and improve the
process.
Your report should include the following sections:
1. COVER PAGE (Please refer to page 5)
2. TABLE OF CONTENTS
3. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
o The executive summary is an abstract that gives a broad
picture of the contents of the
report.
o It should not start off by “In this report you are going to….”
It should summarize the
report to the extent that if this is the only page the reader reads,
he/she will know what
is in the full report.
o This summary shouldn’t be more than ONE page.
4. COMPANY & PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
o Give a background of the chosen company – name, logo,
mission, and SWOT analysis.
o Identify the goods and/or services the company provides.
o Is this a global company? Which global operations strategy
does it follow?
o What is the competitive strategy that they follow?
o It shouldn’t be more than THREE pages
5. QUALITY
o How does the company define the quality of its
product/service?
o How do they measure quality – any tools?
o You are expected to gather information regarding company
quality and then determine
and analyze what TQM tools (Continuous Improvement, Bench-
marking, JIT …etc.) are
used by the company. When you explain that you should support
your explanation with
details from whatever information you gathered. Avoid
including general information.
6. PROCESS STRATEGY
o Explain in details what processes are used in production of
concerned goods or services?
o You need to determine what is the company process strategy
(product focus, process
focus…etc.) and explain all related points i.e. input and output,
equipment
Prepared by: Ms. Dalal Bamufleh
utilization…etc. Make sure that your explanation should not be
general, but it must be
based on the company itself. For example: when we analyzed
YUC process strategy, we
don’t say only that equipment utilization is low because of high
variety, we said that it is
low because at YUC there are different programs (MIS, HR,
ACCT, CS, CE…etc.) and each
level of the specialization program has different requirements to
suit its learning
outcomes and objective. Meaning, only CE, CS , ELCY and MIS
students are using
computer labs, but they are not using the same software and
hardware …etc.
o It shouldn’t be more than THREE pages
7. LAYOUT STRATEGY
o How is the facility arranged?
o You should gather different photos for your company layout
such as: office, warehouse,
retail layout…etc. and analyze their layout based on what we
learnt in class. You should
have at least 8-10 photographs with analysis.
8. INVENTORY & MATERIALS REQUIREMENT
o What techniques does the company use for inventory?
o You are expected to explain how the company is managing
their inventory? What are
the strategies, techniques, tools, or software are used for that
purpose?
9. RECOMMENDATIONS AND SUGGESTIONS
a. How could they solve their problems? (if any)
b. How could they improve their performance?
10. CONCLUSION
o Provide your final conclusions and opinions
o Workload table indicating the workload of each member.
(Please refer to page 6)
o It shouldn’t be more than one page

common, conventional
approach in guiding the
reader through various
linkages and
connections presented
in the report. However,
student presents a
limited perspective on
key concepts of the
required parts
throughout the report.
Student appears to have
problems applying
information in a
problem-solving
manner.
Student demonstrates
beginning
understanding of key
concepts, but
overlooks critical
details. Learner is
unable to apply
information in a
problem-solving
fashion. Student
