2. Crowdfunding
• Back in 2009 games like resonance aimed to raise 150 dollars and than raised
2000 dollars for the game and the difference between in 2009 and 2021 and how
games such as Friday night funk in have raised 2000000 dollars as technology has
advanced soo much and has got much more expensive as the graphics have
advanced .There is a massive variety of different games from mainstream to
niche games and although the mainstream games used to make more profit due
to the long tail theory the niche games have made more profit and there are
more of them and kids have specific desires and interests in games, for example
games such as fortnite started of as niche and than due to it blowing up on social
media turned into a mainstream game. The largest crowdfunding platform
Kickstarter has been used to raise 1.19 billion dollars over 21000 successful video
games. Kickstarter is on eof the best crowd funding platforms for gathering
money from the public, the project creators choose a deadline and a minimal
funding goal. Kickstarter applies a 5% fee on the total amount of the funds raised
3. Use of social media in marketing and
distribution
• Game releases and adverts are marketed through social media,
• Old distribution: Games distributed on physical disks in physical
stores, and sold dependent on invested supply of
manufacturer into producing the physical games.
Limited space in stores meant limited stock and
orders sometimes.
This therefore ate into the possible profit, which
online distribution has solved.
• Online distribution mainly resolves around 2 key aspects –
subscriptions, and in-app purchases.
