Project proposal title and date:
The effects of mountain biking on our mental health.
25/11/2022
Main area of activity
I’d like to start my project with an intro that will maybe be about a minute and a half long
introducing the topic, including some voice over maybe, text and riding. Then a combined 2 and a
half minutes of the interviews and riding then finishing off with a 1 minute outro. The outro will just
rounding off the subject.
Target Audience
My intended audience will just be the generic mountain biker. My plan is to include riding segments
within the documentary so it will appeal to any mountain biker that has some time to spare.
Rationale:
This year I have only done one project before this, that being the audience project but there were
some skills that I developed from that project that I will be using in this project. Said skills
predominantly being editing skills and planning, this could be from my colour grading to my shot
list and concept boards. I feel as if my planning skills have been developing over every project to
the point now that I feel very confident going into production so I feel confident and comfortable
going into this project. Which is handy because for this project I will be stepping out of my comfort
zone.
Project Concept:
My concept for this project is to create a documentary that explores the idea of the positive effects
that mountain biking has on people’s mental health but also whether there’s any drawbacks and
whether it can cause bad mental health or at least cause a negative effect on someone’s mental
health. I’m planning on creating a documentary that will have interviews with mountain bikers
helping explain their feelings on the matter combined with segments of riding to help keep the
audience intrigued. I’ve realised that there are already a lot of mountain bike films about it’s effects
on mental health but I’d like to try and do something different but at the moment I’m not entirely
sure what that could be. I’m thinking that maybe I would like to focus more on the negative effects
than the positive because it’s something that’s not talked about a lot. Being a mountain biker
myself I do know that there are some negative effects and I feel as if they’re not talked about
enough.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
To evaluate my work, I will use peer feedback through the project to try and better it before
handing it in and then at the end of the project I will self-evaluate to see what I could have done
better to improve it or projects that I will create in the future.

Week Specific Tasks
1 Production [in/out?]  This production week will be outside of college, I
will be gathering footage for one of my interviews
as well as some riding footage of said
interviewee.
2 Production [in/out?]  This production week will be outside of college, I
will be gathering footage for one of my interviews
as well as some riding footage of said
interviewee.
3 Production [in/out?]  This production week will be inside of college and
will be used for editing hopefully coming to a
point worthy of peer feedback
4 Production [in/out?]  This production week will be inside of college and
will be used for editing, I will get my peer
feedback back and I will work on that to improve
my work.
Be aware which of those weeks are in or out of college, as you may need to plan different tasks around other
work when working remotely. Budget for approximately 30 hours for production – which is roughly two weeks
of your in college time.
