From leaving school in Cornwall in 1997 I worked in electrical retail attaining the post of
Shop Floor Manager at a town center retail shop. When the shop was relocated I
decided that I wanted to train as an electrician and moved to Derby where I was able to
obtain a place at the Technical College an opportunity not available in Cornwall.
On qualifying as an electrician I worked for Speedy Space in Derby, where my duties
involved all electrical testing and fitting of the portable units.
To expand my experience, I moved to Stenson Mariner where I was responsible for the
electrical fitting of new build canal barges and for fault-finding and repair.
I also learned and gained experience in heating and potable pipe-work, small scale
welding and diesel engine fitting.
In October 2004
I moved to the South East and worked in a self-employed capacity, undertaking sub-
contract work with developers. This involved testing, fault-finding and reporting,
remedial work as well as first and second fix and electrical tests of new builds.
Also during this time, I assisted my parents to build their home and undertook a range
of general building duties including plumbing, tiling, carpentry, floor-laying, pathways
and patios, brick-laying, pointing, roofing and concreting.
July to November 2006
I contracted to Tate and Crewe Marine Engineers at Eastbourne Mariner as a marine
electrician, involving boat servicing instrumentation installation, 3-phase, single phase,
12 and 24 volt DC installations.
Additionally, some mechanical fitting and fiberglass fabrication.
