I’ve gained many skills from working as an electrician. I have excellent
communication skills, I know how to conduct myself around members of the
public and have pride in my appearance. I am more than capable of working on
my own, organising my work load and carrying out jobs in order of importance.
I’m also capable of working as part of a team either by taking the lead to
complete a task or by taking a back seat and completing tasks set.

April 07 – 2010 Inspace / Willmott Dixon
At Inspace / Willmott Dixon we provided a reactive and a PPM maintenance
service for hotels, restaurants, pubs, coffee shops and recently health clubs.
My time here was split between Inspace and Wilmott Dixon both being part of the
same company.
For Inspace I was working on the Whitbread contact providing reactive and ppm
visits for various sites around the country, these sites included premier inn hotels,
costa coffee, beefeater etc. My duties included electrical fault finding, plumbing
works, decorating and preventative maintenance on aircon units and AHU
systems. As well as reactive and ppm site visits I also went to various premier inn
sites Pat testing there electrical equipment. Towards the end of my time on this
contract I was put in charge of a lighting team which would travel round the
country repairing and installing external lighting.
I was then transferred to Willmott Dixon working on a LA Fitness contract. On this
contract I mainly did ppm visits on various gym sites throughout the West
Midlands. On these visits I would liaise with the gym manager and plan a ppm
schedule that myself and other contractors would work from. I did a wide variety
of jobs on these sites everything from checking pumps in pool plant rooms,
general maintenance on gym equipment to replacing lamps and painting.
3. October 2010 – Present Birmingham Science Park/ Innovation Birmingham
I am currently working at Birmingham Science Park in Aston as Maintenance
Supervisor. At the science park I look after 8 varying size office buildings
providing all types of maintenance. Being a qualified electrician I carry out
everything from changing lamps and light fitting to electrical fault finding and
running sub mains. Because of the experience I have gained and my knowledge
of other trades I undertake larger projects such as planning, quoting and
installing kitchens, building partition walls, cutting doorways into walls, carpet
laying and many more.
As supervisor I produce a yearly ppm program to ensure that all electrical testing
emergency light testing and servicing of plant is kept up to date. Because the
buildings I look after consist mostly of office space we have tenants coming and
going on a daily basis. It’s my job to provide the leaving tenants with a
dilapidations cost to return the office back to its original state this includes
painting, carpet replacement/cleaning sign removal etc. Once these costs have
been met it is then my responsibility to ensure the office is ready for the next set
of tenants.
As part of my job I have to arrange and liaise with external contractors. I have to
ensure they have all the correct paper work such as risk assessments and
method statement are correct and correspond to the jobs being undertaken. I
also have to make sure all relevant permits to work such as working at height
and hot works are correctly filled out before any works can commence.
Part of my role at the park is to identify any ways in which we can reduce our
carbon foot print thus saving money. Once these ways have been identified I
then have to get 3 like for like quotes and calculate the energy savings and pay
back times. If these energy saving ideas are approved I then have to arrange
with suppliers and contractors for a suitable time for the works to take place.
In the time I have been working at the science park I have trained a painting
apprentice who is now experienced in all types of maintenance. He has now
been taken on with a full contact and is a valuable member of the maintenance
team.
