We are bombarded by advertising, and we see advertising everywhere no matter where we are in the world. One thing I knew but was informed about in the film was that all companies advertise and market their products in popular areas where people tend to be at. For example, companies stick to advertising on buses, buildings, cups, subways, radio and even television. Areas where you know people are at every day for their daily commute. For example, a sporting goods company ADIDAS used a projected screen on the side on a building near a busy road. This is a good marketing strategy because it will be seen by a lot of people and it may interest them in checking out what the company is selling. In order for companies to get their product out there, they need to use creative thinking and unique techniques that catch the people’s eye and make them want the product more than ever. In advertising you need to use emotions and words that will let the people know that their product is better. For example, the laundry detergent Tide came out with a commercial that did not really center on your clothes being clean, but rather trying to connect to the community by showing a happy family. Cheerios made people believe the cereal has a meaning by showing a grandmother tell a story to a child. Third, a good way to better understand the public needs is to heave the people. Find out what products people need to use in their lives. Ask a lot of questions and create surveys so that you can listen to the people. Selling a product at the end of the day is trying to satisfy the people’s needs, not the marketers. Last, the film covered and stated in an important matter that consumers want to be entertained. Nobody wants to watch a boring commercial that drags on. BMW made a huge boost in sales when they put their sports car in a short film which got to show off the details and beauty of the car. That was a smart marketing technique that we mentioned in class. Companies dress people up nice, put good looking people on commercials so that it catches the person’s eye. Even if it has nothing to do with the product, people like what they see so they will buy the product. It’s all a mind ga.
