Based at the Tier 1 Flagship Venue of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games
Duty SecurityManager-ScottishExhibitionandConferenceCentre(SECC)
During my time working with Controlled Events Solutions at the Commonwealth games I had the
opportunity to see the Tollcross site and SECC develop from the very beginning with the installation of
the perimeter fence line as well as the infrastructure to ensure that the Commonwealth games were
delivered on time and securely. I was also able to see the security team develop as it increased I
numbers towards the games time as the I was the Duty Security Manager
My main roles and responsibilities included :
Reporting to the Organising Committee Glasgow 2014 Venue Security Manager, I was responsible
and accountable for the Private Security Contractor Operation with Controlled Solutions Group and
coordination ofsecurity officers in the venue as well as liaison with senior representatives ofthe Police
and Ministry of Defence.
Some of my key tasks included
 Briefing and debriefing of Controlled Solutions Group Venue Security Senior Supervisors and
Police/MOD Workforce as required – Usuallytwice daily
 Responsible for the managementand deliveryof the Controlled Solutions Group workforce
againstthe agreed securityoverlay (Venue Security dot plans).
 Maintain the Controlled Solutions Group workforce by ensuring the deploymentoftechnically
qualified,legallycompliantand competentworkforce undertaking roles on behalfofGlasgow
2014.
 Ensure that the intentof the Venue Security Manager is reflected in the operational delivery
of a safe and secure environmentatthe Venue.
 Ensure that all activities are delivered againstthe GLASGOW 2014 Standard Operating
Procedures.
 Operational Reporting as required.
 Complete Operational responsibilityduring Off Hours and in the absence ofthe Venue
Security Manager.
Presentin theVenueSecurityCommandCentrewithBronze command,MOD and FireOfficers as directed
by the Venue Security Manager.
Senior Supervisor - Tollcross International Swimming Pool & SECC
As a Sector Senior Supervisor before the games time lockdown Iwas reporting to the Venue Security
manager and was responsible and accountable for assigned staffin the following sectors
 Pedestrian Screening Area (PSA)
 Vehicle Screening Area (VSA)
 Material and Occupant Search Area (MOSA)
 Patrol and Response Teams
 Static Security
As a Senior Supervisor my main roles and responsibilities included
 The operational managementofthe teams with the aim of delivering the security components
in their area of responsibility.
 Ensure the workforce under my supervision is technicallyqualified,legallycompliantand
competentto undertake the tasks assigned to them.
 Deliver the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the area of responsibilitythat the
Security Officer is working.
 Welfare managementand regular rotation at leastevery 30 mins ofstatic security positions
and Patrol and Response Teams ensuring job variety and morale remains high
 Logistical supportfor all static and Patrol and Response Team supervisors and staff.
 Collection ofshift debriefnotes from all staff in sector at end of shiftand delivery to Venue
Security Manager
 Collection and reporting ofall statistical figures as required
 Completion ofall shiftreporting duties as dictated by the Venue Security Manager
