2. Dutch Empire
• The Dutch Empire consisted of all the overseas territories that
were controlled by the Netherlands which took place
between the 17th and 20th century.
• During that time the Dutch tagged along with Spain and
Portugal to make their colonial empire.
• Dutch exploratory trips led to revealing new territories
Europeans could conquer.
3. • With the Dutch naval power rising from the 16th century, the
Netherlands ended up dominating global commerce during
the 17th century which was know as the Dutch Golden Age.
• During the Revolutionary Wars the Netherlands lost its global
power status and also colonial possessions to the British.
• The last of the Dutch Empire were the Dutch Indies and
Suriname but were given their independence after World War
II when European imperialism ended.
