2. Unchallenged
• Besides the defeat of the 13 colonies Britain had in North
America, they soon turned their attention towards Africa, Asia
and the Pacific.
• After Napoleon was defeated in 1815 Britain enjoyed a
century of unchallenged dominance and expanded its holding
across the globe.
• By the end of the 19th century Britain started to loose their
economic lead to Germany and United States.
3. Great Wars
• With economic and military tensions between Germany and
England they became major causes of World War I.
• The war left a financial strain on Britain and although they
achieved their largest territorial extent right after the war it
was no longer a unchallenged military or industrial power.
• Despite being victorious after World War II Britain found its
south east Asia territories occupied by Japan and also gave
India their independence 2 years after the war.
