2. Lord Protector
• He was one of the commanders when the royalists where defeated in the
English Civil War.
• In 1649 Cromwell conquered Ireland and Scotland becoming the Lord
Protector of England, Scotland and Ireland.
• Cromwell fought on the side of the roundheads defeating King Charles I.
3. Politics
• Cromwell wrote most of his speeches and papers based on biblical
imagery, many of them on the meanings of particular passages.
• In 1640 Cromwell was elected Member of Parliament for Cambridge.
• Cromwell was one of the founders of the Rump Parliament.
• Cromwell was best known for making England into a republican
commonwealth.
