Balinsasayao lakes were declared a protected area in 2002. And as a protected area,
Balinsasayao is set apart and secured for its unique biodiversity and ecological richness.

swiftlet, indigo-banded kingfisher, magnificent sunbird, and
spotted kingfisher. The place is also home to the Visayan
wrinkled-billed hornbill, the Negros striped babbler, and the
Negros bleeding-heart pigeon.

At least 27 mammalian species have also been documented in the
area, such as the endangered and endemic Visayan warty pig and
Visayan leopard cat.

family. It
is endemic to the
Philippines, where
it occurs on the
mountains of
Negros and
