4. Story Development
Act I
ā¢ A girl is helping clear out the garage for her Nan and looking for any items of interest that could
have possibly been collected over time. After finding some old photos amongst other items in the
garage she notices a blank DVD case which she opens to check if there is a disk in there and puts
it aside to watch later.
ā¢ Time passes as she continues to take things out of the garage but is visibly curious about what is
on the DVD, something keeps drawing her back to it. An unforeseen force comes over her and
she decides to run upstairs to watch it. (Shouting for her Nan who doesnāt seem to be there). She
puts the DVD into a DVD Player and it suddenly plays, thereās no sound and it seems to be of a
woman (Who looks other worldly yet familiar to her for some reason) walking through some woods
as moonlight passes through the trees along with cuts to an ominous building.
ā¢ The footage suddenly cuts out and she realises that she seems to have completely lost track of
the time as itās now dark outside, sheās confused but shrugs it off as just becoming distracted by it
(However the footage was in no way long enough for that to be the case). In a slight daze she
turns around and sees what appears to be a long white dress before it vanishes around the corner
of the door as she rushes over to see what it was she catches a glimpse of a figure in the mirror.
ā¢ Thinking sheās just tired she goes to the bathroom to wash her face and then gets into bed but as
she closes her eyes the room suddenly changes into a strange dark older location which she
doesnāt recognise.
5. Story Development
Act II
ā¢ She gets up and begins to look around, trying the doors etc. but canāt really see anything apart from what
seems to be light coming through a window that wonāt open either. She proceeds to run around looking
for a way out until she notices that she isnāt getting anywhere, itās as if she is trapped in an infinite loop
with no foreseeable way of escaping.
ā¢ Panic engulfs her and she breaks down, screaming, crying and punching the wall ā she doesnāt know
what is going and it is starting to tear her apart. Maybe sheās just asleep? Maybe this is just a nightmare?
She cant tell but it feels real. Suddenly thereās a crashing sound which snaps her completely out of the
mental break and after composing herself a little she notices a picture frame on the floor, itās cracked
(She thinks It must have fallen during the breakdown surely?) but she can just about see the picture
inside ā itās of an old building (Sheās seen it beforeā¦ but where?) ā the building from the DVD flashes
into her mind as she comes to the realisation that they are the same.
ā¢ At this moment something starkly white appears in the room, only seen in her provisional vision at first
she slowly turns her head to look (Itās the same white dress as the girl was wearing in the DVD footage)
and takes a step back ā the figure is visible now, Itās the girl in the footage and the one she saw in the
mirror.
ā¢ Panic and Fear engulf her again as the figure begins to slowly move its arm up as if reaching for her, she
takes another set back (Sheās trapped in this never ending room, thereās no way out from what she can
tell) and turns around towards the light with her back to the figure and head in her hands ā The room
goes silent and everything appears to freeze. The figureās arm suspended in the air. All she can hear is
her own heartbeat, the seconds feel like forever until the figures hand suddenly moves into a disjointed
position that resembles clicking fingers. In the silence the figure clicks her finger but the sound is more
like bones snapping and the location changes again.
6. Story Development
Act III
ā¢ She notices sheās outside and slowly takes her hands away from her face to see that sheās now in some
sort of woods. She looks around but canāt see anything, not even the figure so just runs in any direction
(She realises that Itās better to do so than staying still) ā after running through the woods for a little while
the figure walks out from behind a tree, causing her to fall back onto the ground.
ā¢ The figure slowly walks towards her as she backs away into a tree but the figure kneels down in front of
her and the scene cuts before any explicit conclusion is shown to keep her fate kind of ambiguous.
ā¢ The sequence ends with separate shots of empty locations from previously in the film, I.e the garage
(now eerie, no one in sight), the room from earlier (now completely absent) and the woods with no sign of
her anywhere ā however there is a blood soaked arm visible from behind a tree.
ā¢ The film ends with a sudden cut to the same footage of the old building seen on the DVD and it is
revealed to be being watched by someone else in front of a TV. Leaving the audience with more
questions than answers yet implying that the process goes on and on.

18. Story Development Summary
As I began to flesh out the initial concept as a fully fledged narrative, I noticed that there were a few gaps in the story
that needed to be explained and connected to the rest of the plot. I ended up with three slightly different narratives that
donāt stray too far from the original concept but end differently, this is the point where I began to realise and was told
that the initial ending could be seen a mile away which is something I didnāt particularly want, I didn'tāt want to be
making a narrative that is either too generic or safe with the story beats it follows as I intended for the film to end with
someone else watching the DVD yet I also needed to be careful about not overcomplicating the narrative for the
audience as well as from a production stand point so I came up with two other endings which either altered the DVD to
be played on a Computer instead leading it to be uploaded online for everyone to see or had the supposed figure
walking through the woods before it is revealed to actually be the main character, leaving it rather ambiguous - I settled
with this final idea after discussing it with people as I think it works well as an expansion on my initial concept where the
Spirit takes the form of her because it signifies ādeath catching up with herā however this had been molded into several
different concepts during the process of deciding on an idea to go with. For example the DVD being in a box that has
other items that are far older than it, it having a date on (close to when the first DVDs were produced) possibly
connecting it to the fear of technology shutting down when the year hit 2000 but it didn't because the DVD was never
played. I have ended up with an amalgamation of concepts, story beats and ideas from each iteration which if
told/presented well will be something I can be proud of.

26. Style sheet I: Colour Scheme
I have chosen to focus on a similar colour scheme to that of how Hollywood would present their remakes of Asian horror films with
distinct Dark Blues ,Yellows, Blacks and Browns alongside brighter shades. I plan to use a selection of alternative blue shades which
have connotations of health, healing, tranquility, understanding, authority, peace and spiritual pursuits- these mostly juxtapose the
concept and world presented in the film with the nature of it being closer to a horror in terms of genre however looking deeper into
the story I am personally trying to tell (although it could be perceived differently for some people) you will see that the spirit
presented is not supposed to be seen as evil, it is simply there to show that the characterās death is catching up to her and bring her to
the after life but she turns away causing the sinister nature to surface but using this colour scheme will not only appeal to the
audienceās eyes but reference the true nature of the film. I will also be using different shades of yellow which are associated with joy,
happiness, intellect, and energy. It produces a warming effect, arouses cheerfulness, stimulates mental activity and generates muscle
energy. This again juxtaposes the style of the film but I want the audience to feel a little out of place as they watch just like the
character in the film, they also share two distinct connotations with death ā the most notable being that the colour blue can be
associated with sadness, melancholy and mourning but in terms of The Ring it is used to represent the way in which the antagonist of
the story was drowned so it gives the audience the sense that they themselves are drowning, now on the opposite side with Dark
Water there is a distinct yellow glow which could give the audience the feeling of burning. This different style will be able to clearly
split the moods and acts in connection to the events on screen ā The blue colouring for when the figure first appears but the more
violent āburningā colour is in line with the turn in The Figureās personality.
27. Style Sheet II: Poster
The poster for SCREAM is made up of several different fonts which encapsulate the style the poster was going for. āS C R E A Mā is written along the bottom in white, bold and block capital
letters. Due to this, the title is large and easy to be seen by the audience. Each letter is spaced out which could be in reference to the length of a scream and show that it is a long drawn out song.
Another significant detail is that of the end letter āMā has been edited. The middle has been stretched downwards to a sharp point this clearly represents a knife which the victims are killed by.
The main image on the poster is a close up of a young girlās face. The girlās eyes are wide, making her look shocked - these follow the viewer which causes an unsettling feeling within them as if
they were being watched which is a feeling felt by a lot of characters within the film. This is to attract their attention and draw them to the poster as well as the movie. The girl is portrayed as
being very pale which could suggest she is very frightened or has been killed off by the killer. These are aspects which could possibly lead to the audience being intrigued to find out what is really
going on in the film. The girl has a hand covering her mouth, this could suggest several different things to the audience and lead them to ask.. Is it her hand? And is she covering her mouth
because she is shocked or it could be someone elseās hand that is preventing her from screaming which refers back to the filmās title. The poster colour scheme is in black and white, this could
represent the darkness within the soul of the killer, death within the film or the darkness which shrouds the killerās identity. There is some extra narrative at the top of the poster in white text.
āSomeone has taken their love of scary movies too far. Solving this mystery is going to be murder.ā This gives the audience a slightly clearer understanding of what the film will be about because it
tells them that it will be a film which is based upon finding out who is committing the murders depicted on screen. This text also plants the idea into the audienceās head that makes them feel as if
the filmās events could potentially happen because it uses everyday terminology like āscary moviesā. By talking about a āscary movieā on the poster for a scary movie it makes the film feel less
fictional to the audience. By using the word āmurderā to describe how hard it will be to find the killer who committed the murders give the word a double meaning, it also has a lot of significance.
The text is also an introduction to the poster and allows the audience to have their own opinion on what might occur in the film.
These are a list of Fonts that I could potentially be using throughout my project taken from
sources like DaFont. The first of which is Mother Danger, this font is very 80ās inspired which fits
with my vision of the film taking inspiration from Horror films within that era ā The fontās letters
are clearly visibly different from each other and are easy to read. The next is Real Horror which is
a more generic font but it is effective in its simpleness with the sharp edges and blood-esque
design. The next is Blood Crow which shares a lot of the same aspects as the others but is far
thicker which could potentially look better depending on what is around the place where I would
place the title. The fourth font is called Nightmare Pills and shares resemblance to ones used In the
Final Destination franchise and is slick in design which would strike attention in the viewers eyes.
The final font is called Bleeding Freaks and is a lot like the first in how it is designed but is unique
enough to stand out on the front of the poster. However each font also comes with disadvantages,
for example both Another Danger and Bleeding Freaks are possibly overly designed for the style of
film I am creating. The Real Horror font is rather generic and uninspired in comparison but could
work with its simplicity. Blood Crow could only work well in Black and Iām not sure if that is the
colour I want to be going for and finally Nightmare Pill may be too similar to that used by other
existing films which may distract from the design of the poster and take away some of its
uniqueness .
