History Class XII Ch. 3 Kinship, Caste and Class (1).pptx
Group assignment 1
1. Group Assignment 1: Film
Research
Leticia Silva
Gelsomina De Lucia
Patrycia Butrym
Tayla Humphris
2. The Pact: Leticia
Conventions:
• There is a child involved to emphasise the vulnerability of the
main character (mother of the child).
• The female is in the house alone stereotyping the female gender
and heightening the climax.
• There is volume control to reveal to the audience the climax
escalating.
• As the scene changes it has the fade to white transitions to
change the scene drastically to fall with the supernatural horror.
• The titles and credits are on a worn out brown background
linking to the setting of the house being the possessed place.
Inspirations:
• Using the fade to white transition to imply danger and how to use it
when the pace of the trailer has increased.
• Using the background with the titles and credits to emphasise the
genre of the trailer.
• Using the right type of lighting to emphasise a type of feel or to
signal out danger to the audience.
• Using props to make the main character look vulnerable and under
danger.
3. Insidious Chapter 2: Leticia
Conventions:
• Using small children to make the audience feel sympathy towards
the family.
• It starts as a happy family like everything is normal.
• The horror score music slowly creeps up when the character is all on
their own.
• The supernatural tries to attack the most vulnerable character (the
baby).
• The credits are not just in cliché red and white.
• The pace of the music increases but the footage is still the same
pace.
Inspirations:
• Score music increases the volume and speed but the speed of
the footage stays the same.
• The match on action of the boy watching the dad and it changing
when he hides.
• The font of the credits is worn out and really emphasises the
supernatural horror mood.
• The score music in the background of a creepy wind sound to
escalate the climax.
4. Episode 50: Gelsomina
Convention:
• Abandoned haunted location.
• Group of investigators who go and investigate it.
• Their last documentary which has never been shown.
• One or no one survives.
• Someone becomes possessed.
• Someone finds their lost footage.
Influence:
• Contrast between night and day.
• Realistic costumes.
• Direct address to camera.
• Blue tint in colour gradient.
5. The Possession of Michael King:
Gelsomina
Convention:
• Someone who does not believe in the
afterlife challenges his belief.
• Becomes too interested with the
afterlife.
• This results into a possession.
Influence:
• Constant going backwards and forwards
to before and after possession to show
effect of this.
• Location is a home which shows how the
situation can happen to anyone.
6. Grave Encounters: Gelsomina
Convention:
• Abandoned location.
• People go investigate.
• One by one they go missing.
• Their footage is later found.
Influence:
• Scary makeup which makes the
ghosts look scary.
• Unexpected scary moments
which make it scary.
7. Incidious: Chapter 3: Patrycia
• Things that I want to include: Inspiration + Conventions
• A clear introduction of the characters (We find out who they are, age
group and their relationships)
• Doesn’t reveal much so it builds more enigmas (at the same time it shows
the characters less so audience will wonder what happened to them)
8. Incidious: Chapter 3: Patrycia
• The beginning is slow (a bit like a story to not confuse the audience) and
things start to happen from the middle of the trailer ( so after the first
scare )
• The sound lowers down when something is about to happen so it
focuses on the actually scene first and creates more tension.
• Show more intense scenes than a variety of different scenes in a fast pace ( 2
main scary scenes and a few seconds of quick pace part)
9. The Conjuring: Patrycia
• Things that I want to include: Inspiration + Conventions
• The intense moment showing two scenes at a time along with silence until
incidental music sudddenly comes up and the demon shows for a second to scare
the audience but not reveal much.
• Scenes in trailer who fool the audience that something is about to happen or
pop up but it doesnt. It will make the audience curious to watch more of the
trailer and make it exciting.
The demon is shown in
a dark setting and it
adapts to the
background so the
demon is less visible.
The light is focused on one
particular spot and the rest is
dark so this makes the moment
even more creepy.
10. Paranormal Activity: Tayla
Conventions:
-Poltergeist that possess a character and turns into a demon
-Fast suspenseful score music
-Alternative ending
-They get law enforcements involved but they believe it is
all in their head
Inspirational:
Using the point of view shot throughout the film gave it a
realistic feel and it was effective in being a Supernatural
Thriller and the point of view created the mystery of the
unknown. The effect that they use when playing back the
footage
11. The Possession: Tayla
Conventions:
-Using a child portrays them as being vulnerable
-Volume control increases at climatic parts e.g death
-Equilibrium and Disequilibrium
-The person who becomes possessed is seen crazy by
family members and cannot understand their sudden
change in behaviour
Inspirational:
A specific part of the plot is what I find inspirational the
use of a box (mis-en-scene) creates a lot of mystery and
enigma and a lot of history is revealed behind it.
There is multiple things that this box is capable of and it
heightens the
12. Idea One: Hidden
• Starts off with a girl dressed in black walking around a bedroom. Picks up a picture of
her and another girl and she whispers I miss you too it. This establishes that she is
dead.
• She goes through her friends stuff and a DVD drops in front of her. (or she is
interested to watch a film but instead...)
• It shows her friend doing a video diary of how she states that she does not believe in
possessions.
• She forwards to the next day. A close up of her changing it. Her eyes in shock.
• Looks up and her chandler is moving and she turns around to be face to face with
the possessed version of her friend.
• Fade to black.
• After this point, the pace gradually becomes faster and shots become shorter.
• Goes backwards and forward of shots of possession like different stages of it and the
other girl like running away in the house.
• Trailer ends with the photo of them being covered in blood.
• Social media promotion.
• Jump scare.
13. Idea Two: Parallel
• Two media partners are in lesson while the teacher tells them
about creating a trailer for their A2 coursework.
• They plan the location, characters etc
• They start filming in an old creepy house to film their trailer.
• When its time to import everything and look over the footage they
see something paranormal (Ghost? Shadow? Person? )
• One girl doesn’t want to go back but the other becomes very
curious and returns to the same place
• She is then gone missing since the day she went back to that place
• Since she’s missing the other girl has nightmares of that house and
her friend that’s missing..
• She even see’s her as a ghost and becomes insane because she cant
take the pressure anymore
