future of Annapolis, Maryland; Virginia Tech’s catalyst climate change inspired a
sustainable plan in integrating environment, transportation, and community.

3. Sociology concepts
Sociological imagination allowed the teams to forecast the relationship between an people in
the future society.
The Functionalist Sociological perspectives were applied to emphasize the natural structure
in Annapolis 2060.
The Conflict Sociological perspective used to tension of the allocation of resources to
distribute equality.
Treadmill of production was used in the conflict perspective to show that the wealthy have a
bigger influence on pollution.
Human ecology was used in the two scenarios to show the need for the awareness people
need for their environment.
The anomie theory of deviance was used in the conflict perspective to show that once
affluent neighbor hoods were subject to deviant behavior. As the pride for the community
was lost so was the moral value.
The socioeconomic status was important in both scenarios to measure of social class that is
based on income, education, and occupation.
Stratification caused conflict in scenario one. In scenario two the excepted it was a natural
according to the functionalist perspective..
Intergenerational mobility was applied to the changes in the social position of children’s

pollution.
Effect: Tourist no longer enjoy coming to the polluted bay.
Housing values plummets and deviance is at an all time high.

Scenario two: Human ecology is applied to Virginia Techs plans.
Cause: Education and application of Sustainable practices has helped the
Chesapeake Bay reach a health rating.
Effect: The economy, society, and political practices flourish . Social mobility is
naturally effected as the generations of children achieved their own dreams.

Sustainable pathway for the environment. Include the
use of forecasting to predict climate change.
Improving the quality of the Chesapeake Bay. This can
be accomplished by clean energy produced by sea
winds. Also planting trees along the coastline will
help with erosion.
Improvements in public transportation help reduce
pollution and help social change. Better public
transportation helps people reach their place of work.
The development in community will improve the
health of Annapolis. In return Clay Street will
improve due to the tourism and job opportunities
from the Sailing industry..

In conclusion, the contrast between conflict and
functionalist perspective is inevitable. Therefore,
the best scenario for Annapolis would to use
forecasting with a combination of perspectives.
The dominant ideology needs to use these
practices in improving the social, economic and
political interests of all citizens in Annapolis. The
