WRITING ACADEMIC PAPERS

Nowadays, many more abandoned baby cases were reported by the media. Some of
them were found dead. Shockingly, many of these cases involve teenagers. To me, this
problem has increased and this problems also happen among primary school
student. We must find out why cases of abandoning babies continue to happen. We
want to discuss about the causes leading to the abandoning of babies and the
consequences of abandoning babies. This problem become more seriously and we
need to know how to prevent or what are measure of prevention. The year 2010 is also
known as Baby dumping cases for Malaysia which brings a lot of questions and issues.
Baby dumping is a social crisis and has a chronic increase as many cases are occurring
in Malaysia. Dumping babies mean the acts of throw away the baby at any places
without take care the babies. This is against human rights. The issue of Baby dumping
is happened everywhere around the world because of different factors leading to the
problem. As we know, nowadays many social issues have arisen in Malaysia among
teenagers especially baby dumping. This is because they do not have guidance from
their parents and the level of religious education is very limited. According Datuk Seri
Sharizat Abd Jalil, as women, family and community Development Minister, Selangor
recorded the highest number of baby dumping. Lately the issue of baby dumping is very
serious because it involves many people such as themselves, family and community in
our country. We choose this topic because as teenagers we have the responsibility to
overcome that issue. In our opinion to solve the problem it must start from the family.
The family must play an important role to manage the family.

Baby dumping brings a lot of negative effects to the society. As we know,
teenagers are our hopes by which they will be the leaders of tomorrow and they are the
one who will lead the world. They will do all the good deeds in order to protect our
country and create a tranquil and order environment for the future generation. But, sadly
things go negative sides. Teenagers are not naive as they should be anymore. They
show a bad and cruel attitudes towards problem solving. They kill babies and their
hands are full of reddish bloods. They are demon. Once a teenager starts practicing
baby dumping, surely more and more teenagers will follow after him. What is going to
happen next? We cannot imagine how these teenagers are going to destroy the world,
themselves and future generation. Teenagers create a harmful environment and break
the order of peaceful lives.

       According to article http://lynni.wordpress.com/2010/09/21/an-article-on-the-
baby-dumping-issue-funny-how-its-gone-out-of-vogue-from-newspapers/ which shows
that our nation‘s current legal response to baby dumping is inadequate to provide long-
term, holistic solutions needed to address this problem. The recent decision to charge
these new mothers with murder or attempted murder would lead to greater
stigmatization and would be more likely to incite fear, rather than encouragement to
reveal their pregnancies. Although nothing can excuse the abandonment or murder of a
child, our society need to focus more on effective preventative and rehabilitative
measures rather than on punitive measures.

For a start, we need to know why baby dumping cases are on the rise in our
society. Research into the social and psychological reasons that drove these girls to
abandon their newborn babies is essential. These new mothers could be young or
underage and may be suffering from postpartum depression. Additionally, they may be
faced with seemingly insurmountable economic and social pressures such as a total
lack of emotional and social support from their family and friends. In my opinion, on
behalf of the family and friends should describe the advice and continue to guide them
to no longer stuck in the case of illegitimate content. If family and friends isolate
themselves so they will feel that they are no longer required and continue to fall in sin
and abandonment will be higher.

Contrast, if they frequently monitored and given attention. They will feel that they
themselves loved and they will appreciate. Through it, they do not find yourself in doing
things that do not want. Refer to the article, I agree that at this stage, we can begin to
formulate an informed multi-sectoral strategy to address the problem. Beginning with
the youth, outreach programmes in schools and communities should be launched to
increase young people‘s awareness of reacting responsibly to their sexuality, and this
should include discussions on creating healthy relationships with the opposite sex
based on respect.

For the pregnant women, these young, often underage women are in need of
non-judgmental support, such as those given through appropriate counseling along with
pre- and post-natal car. For those who get evicted from their family homes, the creation
and advertising of places of safety or shelters is vital. Similarly, for the unwanted infants,
OrphanCARE‘s and government‘s initiatives in creating baby hatches for their deposit
and care is much welcomed and a big step forward for our country in increasing our
social responsibility. This could be supplemented by increasing public awareness of the
need of adoption and foster care arrangements for these babies. Lastly, we should
consider the provision of rehabilitative services, rather than the punitive measure of
murder charges against the mother after the baby-dumping incident. My proposal is,
people like this they have established a special school for those under the age of that is
due to not get another chance to go to school. In school they not only provided
motivation, but in teaching counseling charity work such as sewing clothes and making
hand crafts. It also can increase the skills and knowledge, and generating their own
economy.

The article of http://kamismarties.blogspot.com/ which states that ―Police will be
asked to investigate, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, abandoned babies which
have died. Under Section 302, the punishment for murder is death‖. Currently, baby
dumping is investigated under other sections or under the Child Act for abandonment,
concealment of birth by secret disposal of body, and infanticide, which stipulate jail
terms and fines upon conviction. My opinion, making the investigation is a good action.
police should be more play a role and focus on this problem that can be contained
quickly. For those who kill the baby without any reason to take appropriate action to give
a lesson to others.

―International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) Malaysia
principal research fellow Dr Eric Winkel, on the classical position in Islamic
jurisprudence or fiqh, which emphasises saving a baby‘s life. Winkel argued that a child
was at greater risk if baby dumping was criminalized‖.
He added that the desire to punish promiscuity must be a separate matter from
ensuring the baby‘s safety. His article also highlighted a few ―baby hatch‖ programmes
which have saved thousands of lives in various countries, including conservative
societies. Youths should also be taught to ―develop their own filters‖ to make good
decisions and navigate the modern world with all its sexually charged messages, Winkel
said. (Source: Focus on saving the life of the foundling, New Straits Times, 18 Aug
2010). My suggestion is to save the life of the innocent baby, related flies can make a
special place where they can put the baby in place, so they do not take the easy way to
kill the baby or the baby threw in the trash Or the drain.

Pornography can also be stopped by putting a stop to baby dumping. Now many
teenagers surf the Internet to view pornographic videos and learn from the video.
Through this article, ―Youth today can easily have access to such material online, even
through their mobile phones.‖ Federal CID director Comm Datuk Seri Bakri Zinin, on the
link between pornography and baby dumping. He said widespread access to porn and
weakened family ties have caused an increase in cases since 2005, which numbered
472 as of August 2010. He said more than half the babies in these cases were found
dead. Women‘s Aid Organisation executive director Ivy Josiah disagreed with Bakri,
saying there was no proven correlation. Rather, the problem was more that women
were unable to get their male partners to use contraceptive. My next suggestion is the
media and communications must restrict all matters related to sexual and whatever is
not eligible to be seen by students or anyone under age.

Based on article ―Baby Hatch‖, Zuhri Yahya is an executive at a bus adversiting
company. In his spare time, he works feverishly to save unwanted babies. Here can be
seen that there are few people who are concerned and willing to do what was not done
by the women who throw their babies. The article is also states that he was already
volunteering OrphanCARE, a non-profit to expedite and de-stigmatise the adoption
process. In my opinion, this guy take appropriate action. he has thought long and
continue to look positive for the baby of the exile. What I can suggest is, the man can
also set up a special home for the baby. This is also one that should prevent infanticide
eligible for survival. Next, the article also states that he said ―A young, desperate mother
comes to OrphanCARE‘s with her new born baby. She approaches the hatch, opens it
and places her baby inside. A sensor immediately picks up the baby‘s presence and
triggers a buzzer and strobe light in the caretaker‘s room‖. In my opinion, although this
is a good effort but it must be more increased. No doubt many mothers who do so. This
is because they already know where they are supposed to go and most likely they will
do more because they already know where the babies they do not want it to be saved.

Between reference is to themagazine http://www.scribd.com/doc/52697520/baby-
dumping-article-da-latest which states about ―recently there is a horrible phenomenon to
be a new epidemic in Malaysia and the government has started to look at it seriously.
Baby dumping phenomenon is a phenomenon that we Malaysian should be
embarrassed off‖ . Then the presence of a shameful issue of our country I think sex
education in schools should be is applied and extended to make the men and women in
Malaysia. Such as we know many teenagers are having sex and this calls for an urgent
need to introduce sex education in schools. Educators must first ascertain what level of
understanding students possess and then work out a module that its. It was not about
teaching students how to have sex, but more of how to safeguard their reproductive
organs. Teenagers lack information and access to birth control methods. Many
teenagers are also not taught about ways to deal with peer pressure and how to say ‗no‘
to sex before they are ready. For me It‘s just like combining biology with moral classes.
It must be a combined effort between relevant ministries — Education, Health, Women
and Family, and related government agencies. These bodies need to sit down and
figure out how to implement sex education in schools. It can start with ‗good touch‘ and
‗bad touch‘, and children be made aware of their body parts. It can also help prevent
child sexual abuse.

I totally agree with article http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1383930/Sex-
education-taught-schools-say-half-parents.html#ixzz20nR2ffpN that talks ―Many think it
is inappropriate to teach children about sex, whilst others think it should be a parents'
choice to inform their own child, according to a poll by baby product website
babychild.org.uk‖. This article also states that ―Of those that don't agree that sex
education should be taught in schools, 41 per cent said it was inappropriate to teach
youngsters about the subject, while one in four (28 per cent) said it should be the
parents' choice to teach their own child. A similar proportion (27 per cent) said there
was no need for children to know about sex‖. If I was a mother, I would be more happy if
sex education is conducted in schools. This would not only boost their morale, but also
can reduce abandonment, which progressively increased

What can I suggest to some ways to prevent baby who being abandoned is
divided into five parts. First is the individual all religions in Malaysia prohibit sex before
marriage. Every person has the responsibility to their own life so that they cannot let
anyone pressure into having sex. Besides that, Besides that, there are good reasons to
say ―No, not yet‖ to anyone who asked about sex. One of the reason is the person itself
can protect the health and also the feeling from any problem of sex. The individual itself
also must avoid from reading or viewing the pornographic materials. It also can be one
of the reasons to arise an unwanted pregnancy among teenagers especially. In
relationship, the partner who loves and respects women will not ask for sex before have
a real relation. Then, the individual should get involved in more meaningful activities
such as sports, volunteer works in order to avoid from involved in this kind of problem.

Second Is The parents. Parents play a high role to educate children to become good in
behavior by teaching to stay out of sexual relationships. They could story the
consequences of being relationship in an early age. Furthermore, the parents should
keep an eye in every single activity that been involved by children. They also must able
to talk if their children been weird and spend many times with their children.

Third, mass media. Mass media also is one of the ways to prevent baby from
being abandoned. It is the nearest medium and the best way to communicate and
educate teenagers. It all about how to protect themselves and give useful knowledge to
avoid from involve in anything that can take them to this problem. Besides that, the
suitable sex therapists or psychologist could be presenters of a special programme on
sex education and set the stage for more personal discussions in homes and schools.

And the last is he government. The government also must involve overcoming this
problem from step by step and taking this matter seriously. Baby hatch is indeed good
way to help single mother who cannot afford to take care the baby and nowadays
‗Sekolah Harapan‘ is already built for person who involved in unwanted pregnancy.

―In Islam, baby dumping is a most despicable act. It is an escalating social problem.
Easy success to phonographic materials on the net is the immediate cause of rampant
sexual activities and the resulting of unwanted pregnancies is one of the major causes
of baby dumping, as most of the young women are not prepared to take care of the
baby born out of the wedlock. Other factors includes, inter alia the rapid urbanization
with liberal socializing, poor parenting control and peer influence among others.‖

(Ashgar Ali Ali Mohamed & Farheen Baig Sardar Baig, 2010)

According to the statements above baby dumping are caused by various causes such
as peer pressure, modern technology and lack of knowledge in individual self.

Peer pressure is one of the factors that contribute to baby dumping. Drinking,
smoking, have sex when a person is not ready and whatever it may be, sometimes
others put the pressure on you to participate in something that you might not want to do
it. This kind of pressure can cover everything from fashion through sex and dating. It
needs to be made aware that peers can prove to have influence on each other. When
your friends ask you something that you never do before this, you will make it as a
challenge such as having a couple as well as having a sex. As a result, the victim will be
pressured to do the baby dumping. Thus, one should not succumb to a peer pressure
when it comes to doing the bad thing from the starting.

Another cause of baby dumping in this country is due to modern technology.
Nowadays, people have unlimited communication with each other due to the presence
of numerous social networking. Examples of social networking are Facebook, Twitter,
Yahoo Messenger and many more. All of these social networks can bring negative
impact to those people who misuse it. The negative impact of social networking is
evident in online dating when the couple meets face-to-face for the first time. Commonly
their personalities do not match their self-written descriptions. They use the wrong detail
of personalities to trap people. After that, he would ask for a blind date after they
managed to deceive the victim. It might be the person she would see is a bad person.
Therefore, we should not easily believe the person we just know especially through
internet.

Besides, lack of knowledge in individual self also is one of the causes of baby
dumping. The knowledge about sexual education has been implemented since in
secondary school but some of them are not interested about it. They might be thought
that they can manage their life in future. In addition, they are not thinking about negative
impact that will occur in the future. For instance, when many young teenagers are doing
the baby dumping, they are susceptible to side effects such as illness. Sometimes, most
of them do not practice what they have learnt during the religious classes. Instead, they
want to satisfy their desire. When a woman is pregnant out of wedlock, then they will
take the easiest way that is baby dumping to settle the problem without thinking of
religious law. Thus, every person should have general knowledge such as sexual
education in order to reduce the growing incidence of abandoned babies.

―Nor come nigh to adultery (zina) : for it is a shameful (deed) and an evil, opening the
road (to other evils). As from the above verse, sexual gratification outside the bond of
marriage ia completely forbidden in Islam as it leads to evil, opening the road (to other
evils).‖

                                                                      Surah al-Isra (17) : 32

Base on Surah al-Isra, pre-marital sex is absolutely forbidden in Islam, no matter
whether it is with a girl-friend or a prostitute. Pre-marital sex is fornication (zina).
Premarital sex is what most youths engage in before marriage while extra-marital sex is
what some married people indulges in, when they are not faithful to their partner. Pure
or legal sex is the only legitimate sex, it occurs between married couples.

―Sexually transmitted diseases are often passed when couples have had multiple sexual
partners. Although premarital sex doesn't necessarily mean the couple have had
multiple sexual partners, the chances are greater than if a couple vows to abstain until
marriage. A 2008 study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) found 25
percent of U.S. teenage girls have at least one sexually transmitted disease, a
percentage that increases with age. Besides that, pregnancy also always possibility,
even when using contraception. According to a "Journal of Family Psychology" study
done in 2008, couples who cohabit before marriage are at greater risk of divorce and
report a lower level of dedication to the relationship, which increases the risk of a single-
parent household if a child is involved.‖

                                                                  (Mike Stechschulte,2004)

When a person was pregnant after having sex out of wedlock, she may be
abandoned the babies were born and this is forbidden in Islam. In addition, a person
who have sex outside of marriage will also be exposed to dangerous diseases like HIV
infection and sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis as a result of changing partners.
Besides that, getting pregnant through premarital sex can make another disaster for
examples emotional imbalances and guilt feeling could be the result of most premarital
sexual affairs.

Abandonment problem is closely related to the problem of premarital sex, as most
babies are thrown out of wedlock babies. So, how to overcome the problem of
abandoned babies should begin of premarital sex among teenagers occur first. Though
Baby Hatch was launched to save unwanted babies, it is not an encouragement for
teenagers to do pre-marital sex. The best way is to tackle this social issue is from its
roots. Starting with Pre-marital sex itself. It has become a trend among unmarried
couples nowadays to have sex. More frustratingly, young teenagers are accustomed to
this unhealthy practice. It is no surprise that most teenagers have experienced it.
Moreover, all religions prohibit pre-marital sex. However, not many obey to their religion
rules. There are some tips on how to avoid and say NO to pre marital sex such as :

avoid visiting porn sites on the internet,
avoid reading too much sex stories and articles,
avoid close contact with people associated with social problems. They might
       influence you to do bad things too, thus dragging you to try pre-marital sex ;
last but not least, motivate yourselves to stay away from this unhealthy act. Keep
yourselves close to God. Pray constantly and read more on your religion.
Religion and beliefs are life‘s essential to a healthy life, be it physically or
      spiritually.

But the best way to overcome the problem of sex out of wedlock and abandoned
babies is a way to get married. This has been encouraged in Islam. If we do the right
things, Allah will ease all our affairs. We not only saved from sin, but is insulated from
any illness caused by a pre marital sex.

―And marry the unmarried among you and the righteous among your male slaves and
female slaves. If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty, and Allah
is all-Encompassing and Knowing. ―

                                                                      Surah An Nur (24) : 32

In conclusion, baby dumping is morally and physically wrong. Teenagers should
keep a distance from the crimes. They have to learn to be responsible on what they
have done and think maturely on the pros and cons of things. They should be able to
differentiate good things and bad things. All in all, starting from today, parents and
schools must play their roles in fighting baby dumping cases by imposing enough sex
education in their children and always beware on their children' action. Baby dumping
should be eliminated from now on and leave a peaceful and caring society for us.
Everything we do is based from our hearts. If we are determined to avoid an act, then it
can be done, easily. Always be responsible with your actions. As the saying goes,
―Think before you act‖.
APPRECIATION

Thank you God because of His and His grace, then we can complete the task entrusted
to us within the time frame specified. The success of this assignment is coming from the
encouragement and support from various quarters. On this occasion, we express
thanks to our lecturer, daughter of Madam Fadzlon Md.Thani for providing guidance and
provide a solution in every problem we highlighted. Without him, we will not be able to
solve this task. He always said the spirit and give the information we need. He does not
stingy to share knowledge with us. If we have questions about this assignment, he
always gave a clear explanation until we understand and know how to solve the
problem.

Next, a big thank you also goes to the parents of our two now in Sabah. Despite
our distance so far and have been separated by the South China Sea, but the
motivation, spirit and prayer they accompany us on this roaming. They protect all our
lack of sense of words. Open only that, they are always there when we were in serious
financial trouble.

We do not forget also to thank the comrades who together are helping and
contributing ideas to accomplish this task. Without the cooperation and support, for this
task can not be completed within the prescribed time. Cooperation and time
management important in solving a task. If not, a task can not be completed on time
and can not be completed properly. As the saying goes, "carried the same weight, same
light dijinjing." Truly, only God is able to repay you. Infinite thanks also to the MOE for
their IPG provides related services. Finally, we have one million trees forgiveness from
all the parties involved if there is a mistake and one that we have done. Verily, man is
forever making mistakes, which is good comes from God is bad comes from our own
weaknesses
INTRODUCTION

Instances of baby dumping in Malaysia has been going on indefinitely, more so of Malay
ethnic babies who have been left in odd places like mosques, houses, etc. Here we are
talking of an innocent, perhaps an underage girl, a drop out, wanting to be an adult, not
too preoccupied with consequences or promises made by her so called boy friend, who
falls into a trap with a baby in her hands. In a Muslim society she is condemned, and
being in a thoroughly subordinate position, there is nothing much she can do. Shariah
law is her fear, castigation from fellow Muslims is the second, and being immature and
bewildered she with tears in her eyes decides to abandon her own flesh and blood. Can
you imagine anything more cruel than this. This is something she has to live with for the
rest of her life – a stigma only known to her which will haunt her for the rest of her life. A
mother who is to support life abandoning the baby which perhaps end up lifeless if
someone does not detect the bundle left by her.

Biologically and maternally, she loves the child, having carried it in her body for 9
months. But then comes religion. Malaysia is a funny country, you can murder
someone with explosives and someone else carries the baby, you can bankrupt a
country, you can allow corruption with the Police, Judiciary, MACC and other
government agencies and it is above shariah, but abandoning a baby because of
religious concern deserves death. Anyhow please read the following, when we have not
enough money to educate our youngsters on the folly of premarital sex, and find it
convenient to kill young mothers lead astray, something is wrong.
CONCLUSION

As a conclusion , baby dumping is becoming a common problem in our country
and it is a problem that will never end without a solution. Immoral act should be severed
from an early stage. So, individual ( main role),society and government must stand
together to prevent this issue. So that, the religions and educational authorities must
play their part organizing country‘s programs and collaborate with parents to nurture the
right values in the young. It is right if the government has taken the drastic step of
categorizing baby dumping as a criminal act as a murder if it meets with all the
legal specifications of one. The government should gives heavier punishment to
those who commit this appalling crime.

  • 1. WRITING ACADEMIC PAPERS Nowadays, many more abandoned baby cases were reported by the media. Some of them were found dead. Shockingly, many of these cases involve teenagers. To me, this problem has increased and this problems also happen among primary school student. We must find out why cases of abandoning babies continue to happen. We want to discuss about the causes leading to the abandoning of babies and the consequences of abandoning babies. This problem become more seriously and we need to know how to prevent or what are measure of prevention. The year 2010 is also known as Baby dumping cases for Malaysia which brings a lot of questions and issues. Baby dumping is a social crisis and has a chronic increase as many cases are occurring in Malaysia. Dumping babies mean the acts of throw away the baby at any places without take care the babies. This is against human rights. The issue of Baby dumping is happened everywhere around the world because of different factors leading to the problem. As we know, nowadays many social issues have arisen in Malaysia among teenagers especially baby dumping. This is because they do not have guidance from their parents and the level of religious education is very limited. According Datuk Seri Sharizat Abd Jalil, as women, family and community Development Minister, Selangor recorded the highest number of baby dumping. Lately the issue of baby dumping is very serious because it involves many people such as themselves, family and community in our country. We choose this topic because as teenagers we have the responsibility to overcome that issue. In our opinion to solve the problem it must start from the family. The family must play an important role to manage the family. Baby dumping brings a lot of negative effects to the society. As we know, teenagers are our hopes by which they will be the leaders of tomorrow and they are the one who will lead the world. They will do all the good deeds in order to protect our country and create a tranquil and order environment for the future generation. But, sadly things go negative sides. Teenagers are not naive as they should be anymore. They show a bad and cruel attitudes towards problem solving. They kill babies and their hands are full of reddish bloods. They are demon. Once a teenager starts practicing
  • 2. baby dumping, surely more and more teenagers will follow after him. What is going to happen next? We cannot imagine how these teenagers are going to destroy the world, themselves and future generation. Teenagers create a harmful environment and break the order of peaceful lives. According to article http://lynni.wordpress.com/2010/09/21/an-article-on-the- baby-dumping-issue-funny-how-its-gone-out-of-vogue-from-newspapers/ which shows that our nation‘s current legal response to baby dumping is inadequate to provide long- term, holistic solutions needed to address this problem. The recent decision to charge these new mothers with murder or attempted murder would lead to greater stigmatization and would be more likely to incite fear, rather than encouragement to reveal their pregnancies. Although nothing can excuse the abandonment or murder of a child, our society need to focus more on effective preventative and rehabilitative measures rather than on punitive measures. For a start, we need to know why baby dumping cases are on the rise in our society. Research into the social and psychological reasons that drove these girls to abandon their newborn babies is essential. These new mothers could be young or underage and may be suffering from postpartum depression. Additionally, they may be faced with seemingly insurmountable economic and social pressures such as a total lack of emotional and social support from their family and friends. In my opinion, on behalf of the family and friends should describe the advice and continue to guide them to no longer stuck in the case of illegitimate content. If family and friends isolate themselves so they will feel that they are no longer required and continue to fall in sin and abandonment will be higher. Contrast, if they frequently monitored and given attention. They will feel that they themselves loved and they will appreciate. Through it, they do not find yourself in doing things that do not want. Refer to the article, I agree that at this stage, we can begin to formulate an informed multi-sectoral strategy to address the problem. Beginning with the youth, outreach programmes in schools and communities should be launched to increase young people‘s awareness of reacting responsibly to their sexuality, and this
  • 3. should include discussions on creating healthy relationships with the opposite sex based on respect. For the pregnant women, these young, often underage women are in need of non-judgmental support, such as those given through appropriate counseling along with pre- and post-natal car. For those who get evicted from their family homes, the creation and advertising of places of safety or shelters is vital. Similarly, for the unwanted infants, OrphanCARE‘s and government‘s initiatives in creating baby hatches for their deposit and care is much welcomed and a big step forward for our country in increasing our social responsibility. This could be supplemented by increasing public awareness of the need of adoption and foster care arrangements for these babies. Lastly, we should consider the provision of rehabilitative services, rather than the punitive measure of murder charges against the mother after the baby-dumping incident. My proposal is, people like this they have established a special school for those under the age of that is due to not get another chance to go to school. In school they not only provided motivation, but in teaching counseling charity work such as sewing clothes and making hand crafts. It also can increase the skills and knowledge, and generating their own economy. The article of http://kamismarties.blogspot.com/ which states that ―Police will be asked to investigate, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, abandoned babies which have died. Under Section 302, the punishment for murder is death‖. Currently, baby dumping is investigated under other sections or under the Child Act for abandonment, concealment of birth by secret disposal of body, and infanticide, which stipulate jail terms and fines upon conviction. My opinion, making the investigation is a good action. police should be more play a role and focus on this problem that can be contained quickly. For those who kill the baby without any reason to take appropriate action to give a lesson to others. ―International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) Malaysia principal research fellow Dr Eric Winkel, on the classical position in Islamic jurisprudence or fiqh, which emphasises saving a baby‘s life. Winkel argued that a child was at greater risk if baby dumping was criminalized‖.
  • 4. He added that the desire to punish promiscuity must be a separate matter from ensuring the baby‘s safety. His article also highlighted a few ―baby hatch‖ programmes which have saved thousands of lives in various countries, including conservative societies. Youths should also be taught to ―develop their own filters‖ to make good decisions and navigate the modern world with all its sexually charged messages, Winkel said. (Source: Focus on saving the life of the foundling, New Straits Times, 18 Aug 2010). My suggestion is to save the life of the innocent baby, related flies can make a special place where they can put the baby in place, so they do not take the easy way to kill the baby or the baby threw in the trash Or the drain. Pornography can also be stopped by putting a stop to baby dumping. Now many teenagers surf the Internet to view pornographic videos and learn from the video. Through this article, ―Youth today can easily have access to such material online, even through their mobile phones.‖ Federal CID director Comm Datuk Seri Bakri Zinin, on the link between pornography and baby dumping. He said widespread access to porn and weakened family ties have caused an increase in cases since 2005, which numbered 472 as of August 2010. He said more than half the babies in these cases were found dead. Women‘s Aid Organisation executive director Ivy Josiah disagreed with Bakri, saying there was no proven correlation. Rather, the problem was more that women were unable to get their male partners to use contraceptive. My next suggestion is the media and communications must restrict all matters related to sexual and whatever is not eligible to be seen by students or anyone under age. Based on article ―Baby Hatch‖, Zuhri Yahya is an executive at a bus adversiting company. In his spare time, he works feverishly to save unwanted babies. Here can be seen that there are few people who are concerned and willing to do what was not done by the women who throw their babies. The article is also states that he was already volunteering OrphanCARE, a non-profit to expedite and de-stigmatise the adoption process. In my opinion, this guy take appropriate action. he has thought long and continue to look positive for the baby of the exile. What I can suggest is, the man can also set up a special home for the baby. This is also one that should prevent infanticide eligible for survival. Next, the article also states that he said ―A young, desperate mother
  • 5. comes to OrphanCARE‘s with her new born baby. She approaches the hatch, opens it and places her baby inside. A sensor immediately picks up the baby‘s presence and triggers a buzzer and strobe light in the caretaker‘s room‖. In my opinion, although this is a good effort but it must be more increased. No doubt many mothers who do so. This is because they already know where they are supposed to go and most likely they will do more because they already know where the babies they do not want it to be saved. Between reference is to themagazine http://www.scribd.com/doc/52697520/baby- dumping-article-da-latest which states about ―recently there is a horrible phenomenon to be a new epidemic in Malaysia and the government has started to look at it seriously. Baby dumping phenomenon is a phenomenon that we Malaysian should be embarrassed off‖ . Then the presence of a shameful issue of our country I think sex education in schools should be is applied and extended to make the men and women in Malaysia. Such as we know many teenagers are having sex and this calls for an urgent need to introduce sex education in schools. Educators must first ascertain what level of understanding students possess and then work out a module that its. It was not about teaching students how to have sex, but more of how to safeguard their reproductive organs. Teenagers lack information and access to birth control methods. Many teenagers are also not taught about ways to deal with peer pressure and how to say ‗no‘ to sex before they are ready. For me It‘s just like combining biology with moral classes. It must be a combined effort between relevant ministries — Education, Health, Women and Family, and related government agencies. These bodies need to sit down and figure out how to implement sex education in schools. It can start with ‗good touch‘ and ‗bad touch‘, and children be made aware of their body parts. It can also help prevent child sexual abuse. I totally agree with article http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1383930/Sex- education-taught-schools-say-half-parents.html#ixzz20nR2ffpN that talks ―Many think it is inappropriate to teach children about sex, whilst others think it should be a parents' choice to inform their own child, according to a poll by baby product website babychild.org.uk‖. This article also states that ―Of those that don't agree that sex education should be taught in schools, 41 per cent said it was inappropriate to teach
  • 6. youngsters about the subject, while one in four (28 per cent) said it should be the parents' choice to teach their own child. A similar proportion (27 per cent) said there was no need for children to know about sex‖. If I was a mother, I would be more happy if sex education is conducted in schools. This would not only boost their morale, but also can reduce abandonment, which progressively increased What can I suggest to some ways to prevent baby who being abandoned is divided into five parts. First is the individual all religions in Malaysia prohibit sex before marriage. Every person has the responsibility to their own life so that they cannot let anyone pressure into having sex. Besides that, Besides that, there are good reasons to say ―No, not yet‖ to anyone who asked about sex. One of the reason is the person itself can protect the health and also the feeling from any problem of sex. The individual itself also must avoid from reading or viewing the pornographic materials. It also can be one of the reasons to arise an unwanted pregnancy among teenagers especially. In relationship, the partner who loves and respects women will not ask for sex before have a real relation. Then, the individual should get involved in more meaningful activities such as sports, volunteer works in order to avoid from involved in this kind of problem. Second Is The parents. Parents play a high role to educate children to become good in behavior by teaching to stay out of sexual relationships. They could story the consequences of being relationship in an early age. Furthermore, the parents should keep an eye in every single activity that been involved by children. They also must able to talk if their children been weird and spend many times with their children. Third, mass media. Mass media also is one of the ways to prevent baby from being abandoned. It is the nearest medium and the best way to communicate and educate teenagers. It all about how to protect themselves and give useful knowledge to avoid from involve in anything that can take them to this problem. Besides that, the suitable sex therapists or psychologist could be presenters of a special programme on sex education and set the stage for more personal discussions in homes and schools. And the last is he government. The government also must involve overcoming this
  • 7. problem from step by step and taking this matter seriously. Baby hatch is indeed good way to help single mother who cannot afford to take care the baby and nowadays ‗Sekolah Harapan‘ is already built for person who involved in unwanted pregnancy. ―In Islam, baby dumping is a most despicable act. It is an escalating social problem. Easy success to phonographic materials on the net is the immediate cause of rampant sexual activities and the resulting of unwanted pregnancies is one of the major causes of baby dumping, as most of the young women are not prepared to take care of the baby born out of the wedlock. Other factors includes, inter alia the rapid urbanization with liberal socializing, poor parenting control and peer influence among others.‖ (Ashgar Ali Ali Mohamed & Farheen Baig Sardar Baig, 2010) According to the statements above baby dumping are caused by various causes such as peer pressure, modern technology and lack of knowledge in individual self. Peer pressure is one of the factors that contribute to baby dumping. Drinking, smoking, have sex when a person is not ready and whatever it may be, sometimes others put the pressure on you to participate in something that you might not want to do it. This kind of pressure can cover everything from fashion through sex and dating. It needs to be made aware that peers can prove to have influence on each other. When your friends ask you something that you never do before this, you will make it as a challenge such as having a couple as well as having a sex. As a result, the victim will be pressured to do the baby dumping. Thus, one should not succumb to a peer pressure when it comes to doing the bad thing from the starting. Another cause of baby dumping in this country is due to modern technology. Nowadays, people have unlimited communication with each other due to the presence of numerous social networking. Examples of social networking are Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo Messenger and many more. All of these social networks can bring negative impact to those people who misuse it. The negative impact of social networking is evident in online dating when the couple meets face-to-face for the first time. Commonly their personalities do not match their self-written descriptions. They use the wrong detail of personalities to trap people. After that, he would ask for a blind date after they
  • 8. managed to deceive the victim. It might be the person she would see is a bad person. Therefore, we should not easily believe the person we just know especially through internet. Besides, lack of knowledge in individual self also is one of the causes of baby dumping. The knowledge about sexual education has been implemented since in secondary school but some of them are not interested about it. They might be thought that they can manage their life in future. In addition, they are not thinking about negative impact that will occur in the future. For instance, when many young teenagers are doing the baby dumping, they are susceptible to side effects such as illness. Sometimes, most of them do not practice what they have learnt during the religious classes. Instead, they want to satisfy their desire. When a woman is pregnant out of wedlock, then they will take the easiest way that is baby dumping to settle the problem without thinking of religious law. Thus, every person should have general knowledge such as sexual education in order to reduce the growing incidence of abandoned babies. ―Nor come nigh to adultery (zina) : for it is a shameful (deed) and an evil, opening the road (to other evils). As from the above verse, sexual gratification outside the bond of marriage ia completely forbidden in Islam as it leads to evil, opening the road (to other evils).‖ Surah al-Isra (17) : 32 Base on Surah al-Isra, pre-marital sex is absolutely forbidden in Islam, no matter whether it is with a girl-friend or a prostitute. Pre-marital sex is fornication (zina). Premarital sex is what most youths engage in before marriage while extra-marital sex is what some married people indulges in, when they are not faithful to their partner. Pure or legal sex is the only legitimate sex, it occurs between married couples. ―Sexually transmitted diseases are often passed when couples have had multiple sexual partners. Although premarital sex doesn't necessarily mean the couple have had multiple sexual partners, the chances are greater than if a couple vows to abstain until marriage. A 2008 study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) found 25 percent of U.S. teenage girls have at least one sexually transmitted disease, a
  • 9. percentage that increases with age. Besides that, pregnancy also always possibility, even when using contraception. According to a "Journal of Family Psychology" study done in 2008, couples who cohabit before marriage are at greater risk of divorce and report a lower level of dedication to the relationship, which increases the risk of a single- parent household if a child is involved.‖ (Mike Stechschulte,2004) When a person was pregnant after having sex out of wedlock, she may be abandoned the babies were born and this is forbidden in Islam. In addition, a person who have sex outside of marriage will also be exposed to dangerous diseases like HIV infection and sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis as a result of changing partners. Besides that, getting pregnant through premarital sex can make another disaster for examples emotional imbalances and guilt feeling could be the result of most premarital sexual affairs. Abandonment problem is closely related to the problem of premarital sex, as most babies are thrown out of wedlock babies. So, how to overcome the problem of abandoned babies should begin of premarital sex among teenagers occur first. Though Baby Hatch was launched to save unwanted babies, it is not an encouragement for teenagers to do pre-marital sex. The best way is to tackle this social issue is from its roots. Starting with Pre-marital sex itself. It has become a trend among unmarried couples nowadays to have sex. More frustratingly, young teenagers are accustomed to this unhealthy practice. It is no surprise that most teenagers have experienced it. Moreover, all religions prohibit pre-marital sex. However, not many obey to their religion rules. There are some tips on how to avoid and say NO to pre marital sex such as : avoid visiting porn sites on the internet, avoid reading too much sex stories and articles, avoid close contact with people associated with social problems. They might influence you to do bad things too, thus dragging you to try pre-marital sex ; last but not least, motivate yourselves to stay away from this unhealthy act. Keep yourselves close to God. Pray constantly and read more on your religion.
  • 10. Religion and beliefs are life‘s essential to a healthy life, be it physically or spiritually. But the best way to overcome the problem of sex out of wedlock and abandoned babies is a way to get married. This has been encouraged in Islam. If we do the right things, Allah will ease all our affairs. We not only saved from sin, but is insulated from any illness caused by a pre marital sex. ―And marry the unmarried among you and the righteous among your male slaves and female slaves. If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty, and Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing. ― Surah An Nur (24) : 32 In conclusion, baby dumping is morally and physically wrong. Teenagers should keep a distance from the crimes. They have to learn to be responsible on what they have done and think maturely on the pros and cons of things. They should be able to differentiate good things and bad things. All in all, starting from today, parents and schools must play their roles in fighting baby dumping cases by imposing enough sex education in their children and always beware on their children' action. Baby dumping should be eliminated from now on and leave a peaceful and caring society for us. Everything we do is based from our hearts. If we are determined to avoid an act, then it can be done, easily. Always be responsible with your actions. As the saying goes, ―Think before you act‖.
  • 11. APPRECIATION Thank you God because of His and His grace, then we can complete the task entrusted to us within the time frame specified. The success of this assignment is coming from the encouragement and support from various quarters. On this occasion, we express thanks to our lecturer, daughter of Madam Fadzlon Md.Thani for providing guidance and provide a solution in every problem we highlighted. Without him, we will not be able to solve this task. He always said the spirit and give the information we need. He does not stingy to share knowledge with us. If we have questions about this assignment, he always gave a clear explanation until we understand and know how to solve the problem. Next, a big thank you also goes to the parents of our two now in Sabah. Despite our distance so far and have been separated by the South China Sea, but the motivation, spirit and prayer they accompany us on this roaming. They protect all our lack of sense of words. Open only that, they are always there when we were in serious financial trouble. We do not forget also to thank the comrades who together are helping and contributing ideas to accomplish this task. Without the cooperation and support, for this task can not be completed within the prescribed time. Cooperation and time management important in solving a task. Infinite thanks also to the MOE for their IPG provides related services. Finally, we have one million trees forgiveness from all the parties involved if there is a mistake and one that we have done. Verily, man is forever making mistakes, which is good comes from God is bad comes from our own weaknesses
  • 12. INTRODUCTION Instances of baby dumping in Malaysia has been going on indefinitely, more so of Malay ethnic babies who have been left in odd places like mosques, houses, etc. Here we are talking of an innocent, perhaps an underage girl, a drop out, wanting to be an adult, not too preoccupied with consequences or promises made by her so called boy friend, who falls into a trap with a baby in her hands. In a Muslim society she is condemned, and being in a thoroughly subordinate position, there is nothing much she can do. Shariah law is her fear, castigation from fellow Muslims is the second, and being immature and bewildered she with tears in her eyes decides to abandon her own flesh and blood. Can you imagine anything more cruel than this. This is something she has to live with for the rest of her life – a stigma only known to her which will haunt her for the rest of her life. A mother who is to support life abandoning the baby which perhaps end up lifeless if someone does not detect the bundle left by her. Biologically and maternally, she loves the child, having carried it in her body for 9 months. But then comes religion. Malaysia is a funny country, you can murder someone with explosives and someone else carries the baby, you can bankrupt a country, you can allow corruption with the Police, Judiciary, MACC and other government agencies and it is above shariah, but abandoning a baby because of religious concern deserves death. Anyhow please read the following, when we have not enough money to educate our youngsters on the folly of premarital sex, and find it convenient to kill young mothers lead astray, something is wrong.
  • 13. CONCLUSION As a conclusion , baby dumping is becoming a common problem in our country and it is a problem that will never end without a solution. Immoral act should be severed from an early stage. So, individual ( main role),society and government must stand together to prevent this issue. So that, the religions and educational authorities must play their part organizing country‘s programs and collaborate with parents to nurture the right values in the young. It is right if the government has taken the drastic step of categorizing baby dumping as a criminal act as a murder if it meets with all the legal specifications of one. The government should gives heavier punishment to those who commit this appalling crime.
