Coca Cola Summer Radio Advert
Style of the Commercial
The second advert I have chosen to analyse is a snickers advert. The
advertisement is about a man who is struggling to build his new
kitchen unit, and decides to call the company to help out. He is met by
a nice gentleman until he explains that he is reading the instructions.
The polite voice soon turns into the voice of Mr T who tells him off
and quotes the Snickers slogan “Get Some Nuts”. This is seen as
aggressive humour as we associate Mr T with a quite angry and
contentious personality. Furthermore the advert is seen as quite a
simple and surreal idea that comes together to create a well-made
commercial.
The Structure of the Commercial
There are three voices used throughout this advert. This is to show the
structure of its humour with the voice change to the celebrity endorsement
and the main feature of the advert. Celebrity endorsement has been a big
selling point for Snickers as throughout all of their advertisements it has
starred Mr T. A very male oriented figure that strikes fear into the male
character that appears before him in these commercials. The target
audience is completely male as the advertisements tries to test their
manhood by giving the message that if you do not eat this product then you
are not a real man. This is seen as the Unique Selling Point for this product
as the whole concept revolves around this theory of being a man. The use
of sound effects sets the scene by incorporating in FX such as a telephone
call to set the story. Voices are not heard as clearly in this advert as they
would be in other advertisements because it is to give the illusion that both
the characters are actually on the phone. With the office noises in the
background this gives the audience a realistic imagery into the commercial
so they are able to imagine the story as it plays out.
Describe the Purpose of the Commercial
The sole purpose for this advertisement is to promote the product to as
many people as possible. Using the radio is a good advantage for the
company as it spreads very quickly and the audience have to listen to the
advertisement. As most people listen to the radio in the car or in their
