1. Esting Review
Creating the Esting was something I struggled with quite immensely- especially during the first week
of production. Whilst I’m happy with the outcome, I do believe it could be a lot better; I could have
worked harder on it and used my time more effectively.
The research task I thought to be fairly straight forward and I was able to complete it in an evening,
however due to my time keeping I uploaded a week late. During that week I could have begun
working on the ideas generation, but did not end up starting till the week I was supposed. Whilst I
was on schedule with it, I could definitely have done it in my spare time the previous week to save
time.
It wasn’t a difficult task; however I lacked in imagination and struggled to come up with ideas.
Looking back I could have worked harder on it and produced more than one moodboard. I definitely
needed to have elaborated on my ideas a lot more.
The planning process took a lot longer that it should have done; I complete the storyboard mid-way
through the week, however due to my own fault I had to re-do them. This held me back quite a bit. I
continued with the planning with process the following week, so I was a week behind. Completing
the ‘Legal and Ethical’ checklist was simple enough, however the asset list did confuse me quite a
bit. I required some assistance of the teacher in helping me get started on it.
Whilst I was a week behind on the planning, I went ahead with the production stage as planned. I did
have some prior knowledge on the software I had chosen to use- Adobe Illustrator and Adobe After
Effects- but I still struggled immensely to begin with.
I had a very slow start due to the fact that I required a lot of assistance during the first week on how
to use Adobe Illustrator correctly and effectively. By week two however I was able to use it by
myself. This did not stop me from falling a week behind- I had not realised how long it would take to
trace my drawings.
Adobe After Effects took me a lot longer to get used to and even as I was nearing the end of
producing my Esting I still required some assistance off the teacher with some things. During one
part of my Esting I’ve used a strobe lighting effect- this is just one example of something that should
have only taken me a little while but took up a whole lesson. By the end of the project I was a whole
week late.
Overall the project went ok. I definitely could have managed my time a lot more effectively and I
believe there are some tasks I could have worked a lot harder on. If I was to redo my project, I would
definitely make sure I got a lot more experience using the software rather than jumping in head first.
Whilst I’m not completely happy with my end result, I at least now know how I could make it better
next time now that I have more experience.
