1. Title Sequences- Primary Research
By carrying out the following survey it allows me to get an understanding of people’s views
and opinions on the form of product i’m aiming to produce as well as the demographic I’m
targeting it at based on their responses.
The firstquestionallowsme todetermine whomyrespondentsare soI can establish whetherthe
resultsof the restof the surveywill be biasedornot.Asthe above graph showsI hadhad gender
balance makingitfairlyreliableintermsof gettinganhonestviewpoint andvaluable inputfroma
multitude of people.
The purpose of the surveywasto
gatherresultsfrompeople of all ages
and genderandwhilstIdidgetthe
latteraspectI was letdownbythe fact
that onlythose betweenthe agesof 16-
18 responded. Due tothisfactor I’m
onlygeneratingopinionsandfeedback
fromthisparticularage categorywhich
will differfromothersmeaningi’mnot
able to geta mixedandhonestsetof
results.
2. Althoughthe followingquestionmayseemfairlybasic,the reasoningbehinditwastosimply
determine whetherIwasgainingresultsfromthe right‘type’of people.Mychosenproductis
designedtoattractthose that take enjoymentinwatchingmovies,therefore implyingthatmy
respondentswouldideallyneedtohave aninterestinthem, otherwiseI’dbe gainingresultsfroma
groupof people inanarea that hasno appeal factorfor them.Asthe above graphshowcasesthisis
the outcome I received.Bymakingitaclose endedquestionI’mable toanalyse the response more
easilyratherthandealingwithcomplicatedstatistical dataorcomplex responses.
By askingwhethertheybelieve title sequencestobe animportantaspectof a movie, itwasa simple
wayfor me to determine whetheraudienceshadanunderstandingof themandtheirpurpose. The
resultsIreceived were fairlypositivewithonly33% disregardingthe relevanceof them, allowingme
to come to the assumptionthata large percentage of people canrespectthe motive of them.
3. Lookingback onthisparticularquestionIcouldhave probablystructureditslightlybetterasno
respondentadaptedonthe questionwithinthe commentbox,howeverIwasstill able togenerate
some formof (inconclusive) conclusionbasedonthe above graph.Whilstthe previousquestion
allowedme todeterminewhetheraudiencesunderstoodthe relevance of atitle sequence, thisone
was slightlymore personal andallowedme togainan insightasto whethertheyactuallyenjoyed
watchingthem.Responseswere fairlymixed,howeverI’mpleasedwiththe outcome asonly16%
chose to say no- I can onlyassume the reasoningbehindthistobe because theyeitherfindthem
boring,time consuming,orawaste of space? 33% saidtheyonlyenjoyedwatchingthe sequence
sometimes-Ican againonlybase thison factorsI believe ittobe suchas theydon’tlike themif
they’re toolong,boring,don’tshowcase anymovie themes,buildenigmaorprovide aninsight.This
leaves50%who saidthat theyenjoyedwatchingthe sequence,whichoverallisapositive outcome
as it tellsme thatmy producthas a chance of beingwell receivedandthere isaplce forit withinthe
movie industry.
All the answerchoice to
the followingquestion
were correctpar one;it
was simplyawayfor me to
determine whataudiences
perceivedthe purpose of a
title sequencetobe so that
I couldmake thisfactor
obviouswithinmyown.
4. As well asfindingoutwhetherpeople enjoyedwatchingthe sequences,Ialsowantedtodiscover
whattheybelievedthe perfectlengthtobe inorderto meettheirneeds.The resultsIreceivedwere
fairlysimilarwith thirtysecondstotwominutesbeingthe median,therefore allowingme to
determine thatthisisthe time frame Ishouldkeepmyproductwithininordertokeepthem
interested.
The final questionwasagaina
wayof me to gain an insightin
orderto adapt my own
sequence tosuitthe needsof
my audience.The following
resultsshowsme thatthe most
popularaspectis the movie
hintsprovided,therefore
allowingme todeterminethisis
a factor I shouldincorporate in
my final product,whilstthe
otherelementswouldbe
secondaryfeatures.
