5 Editing Techniques:
Cutaway= this technique is used to allow the viewers to see the audiences reaction
along with the performance that jack does on the boat.
Wipe=this technique is used nearer the end of the scene after jack has stolen items
and made a quick getaway. The jump from the ferry to the platform shows him
transitioning from a shot.
J-cut=this technique is used near the beginning of the scene, when the public are
listening to jack explain his trick in front of them.
L-cut=this technique is used once the man who jack stole from realises how jack has
tricked him, the volume build emphasises the fast pace in jacks getaway.
Cutting on action= this technique is used when one member of the public works out
how jack did his trick, and shows the other people on the boat. This shot builds
tension and its fast pace and the audience expect a reaction.
Theory:
I think the theory for this film is the Enigma Code, as some clues are shared throughout
however not enough is revealed for the audience to have a clear understanding of the final
result, or a clear view of what is happening during the film. All the tricks done by the actors
make the audience think they understand what is going on however an unpredictable
ending happens.
