I have also begun to look at Billboard which is a multi genre music magazine. I
have chose this because i don’t really listen to pacific genre of music so i
decided this would be the best magazine for my back up research.
The skyline for this magazine is ‘THE PUBLISHERS QUARTERLY’ this is a strong
and inviting skyline to the reader as the magazine only does four of these
issue’s a year as its called the ‘publishers quarterly’ this is where they do a
quarterly special issue on the quarterly money intake in the music business.
The Masthead is ‘Billboard’ by looking at the magazine you can see that it is
well known as the main photograph is over the masthead. Also they keep the
bold writing and the colours inside the letters on every issue so just by looking
and realising the bold bright colours you can identify the magazine well.
The main cover line isn’t really well notice but is clear on what the months
issue is based on. Also underneath the bold text of ‘Lady Gaga’ it says catching
facts on what is inside about Lady Gaga. This attracts readers too as they might
not like Lady Gaga as much but wants to find out more about her and her
music.
Lady Gaga is the main focus of this issue. You can see this as she is in the
foreground of the magazine, she is in front of all the text , even thought she is
wearing black which blends with the rest of the features on the magazine her
direct mode of address attracts you towards the magazine. Also, even though
her clothing is simply black the ruffles are a representation of Lady Gaga, as she
always wears outrageous clothing, its the same effect with her hair, its not just
the ridiculously high heels and the eye popping outfits, its the mad coloured
and styled hair so making the hair a main attraction was a good look for the
magazine . The way she is pulling one side of the blazer down puts across her
sexual appeal to the readers. Her facial expression also links with her body language as she has her mouth slightly open, which suggests sexual attitude and

her eyes are direct to the reader. She is also strong enough to sell the magazine so there is no need for secondary images as this could take the attention
away for the main focus for the magazine.
The main selling points for the magazine have been well highlighted as they are big and bold like the text which suggests that they are important for the
magazine to talk about and what the readers could be interested in.
The hair is also the starting point for the Route of Eye to the readers as it is a bold, bright colour the eye is then drawn to the right on the bold, clear text
(‘Lady Gaga’) down to her hand on the right which is cover with interesting jewellery to attract the eye and down past her open chest down to her waist.
This is a strong Route of Eye as they have directed the eye the whole length of Lady Gaga and cover the main selling point for the magazine.
Overall this is a well presented and strong front cover for the magazine because it is an eye catching and interesting photograph and clear to the reader
what they can expect from the magazine. Also they have made it clear that this is a special issue from the strong skyline to attract the readers to this special
issue.
