Who is News Reporter
"News reporters also known as journalist,
investigate, observe, interview and write new
stories. Their general job duties include
collecting information, preparing a factual story
and creating articles or broadcast that
information to the public."
Who is News Reporter
News reporters are responsible for
gathering and writing about the news as it
happens. Reporters cover events that
make the news. A news editor makes
decisions about the importance of
breaking stories and assigns reporters to
cover the event. The source of the story
could be a press release, breaking news
over the wire service or a tipoff from a
contact. Reporters travel to the scene,
gather information and quotes from official
sources such as police or fire crews or
witnesses, and put together a story.
DUTIES AND WORKING
BACKGROUND
Reporters provide news to a public audience by way of TV,
Radio, Press release or the internet. They work in a variety of
seething varying in size. Work happens in the newsroom in the
field anywhere else that a story can be researched.
A newspaper reporter investigates a subject,
performs research and conducts interviews to
gather information then writes a newspaper article
on what he or she discovered. Reporters may be
accurate, conscientious, a good citizen and take
part in modeling the views of other people, but
they can't play their part successfully unless they
keep their eyes open and their mind attuned to the
present, future as well as the past. They are leaders
of men in many senses of the world.
DUTIES AND WORKING
BACKGROUND
The nature of the job being such, an 'up and doing"
type of person proves successful in this line. Naturally,
persons who prefer fixed working hours and regular
routine in daily life are unsuitable for this job.
The nature of the job being such, an 'up and doing"
type of person proves successful in this line.
Naturally, persons who prefer fixed working hours
and regular routine in daily life are unsuitable for
this job.
His work changes daily; as such he should be
prepared to handle any assignment and move
anywhere. He should have special knack of meeting
all sorts of people in all types of circumstances.
DUTIES AND WORKING
BACKGROUND
A shy and a reserved type of young person are totally
unfit to become a successful reporter. He must possess
abundant self-confidence, so as not to be overawed by
the rank or position of an individual. He should be a
man of initiative and should not be easily disheartened
or discouraged.
A good reporter seldom sticks to a newspaper for long.
Usually he passes on to news agencies or gets
promotion to look after other aspects of newspaper
production like a news editor or a chief correspondent.
DUTIES AND WORKING
BACKGROUND
Radio news reporters works under the supervision of
the news director. The reporter specializes in covering a
news beat, produces daily news for radio newscasts,
produces in-depth radio features and produces special
reports as assigned.
Reporters working in radio or television may also be
responsible for presenting all or part of their stories.
They may present the story in the studio or do a new
anchor, giving an overview of the story and introducing
the interviews they record on site.
Reporters are people that no media organization can do
without. For example newspapers all over the world
rely on their reporters for their news contests. A
reporter's job is therefore a very important one.
HOW TO BECOME A
NEWS REPORTER
Journalism is a competitive, yet highly rewarding
field. It’s the backbone of the media industry and is
critical to a high functioning democracy. To be
successful as a journalist, you must have a passion for
truth, honesty and integrity, and the guts to go out
and get the story. Read on for important steps on how
to become a journalist.
You must have high ethical standards. You must be
able to write well. If you want people to talk and
open up to you, it’s imperative to have great
communication skills, both written and verbal. An
unbiased attitude and the ability to be objective is key.
Get a formal education
Obtaining a degree in journalism or a related field will just increase your
chances for employment. Find more information about selecting a journalism
school.
Choose your niche.
Attend the basic courses in journalism, but make sure that you
get classes in your chosen specialty. If you’re interested in
fashion reporting, for example, you may not have the same
courses as someone who is studying investigative journalism.
Become an expert in your chosen field.
Secure an internship.
Many schools have newspapers, yearbooks, newsletters, or
radio stations that accept interns. The experience gained is
essential when it comes time to apply for a job.
Write, write, write.
Then, write some more. Build a portfolio of your work that you
can present to future employers, and make sure it’s quality
work. You cannot rely on word processing systems to catch
your spelling and grammatical errors, and these common
mistakes will almost guarantee that you struggle in your quest
for employment.
Be willing to start small.
Think community publications, local newsletters, or small area newspapers.
Anything to get your work published. If you have a hobby, look for
opportunities to write a piece for a newsletter. Sometimes for free, but again—
anything to get your work published. Create an online presence for yourself by
starting your own blog or website. Network. Join clubs or associations. Make
good connections during your internships. And above all, never, ever burn
bridges.
