1. UNIT 10: film pre-production technicalfeatures.
Proposal
My film will be the drama/mystery genre, and it will feature a young
girl whose boyfriend went missing and was presumed dead a few
months prior to the film. She was previously questioned about the
death of her boyfriend and accused of being responsible. This has
continued for months and months since the death however she has
always stayed silent. We get the run through of her thoughts and
emotions building up to that point where she is about to confess to
murder over text to her boyfriend’s sister.
Logline
After you is a mystery-driven drama story following a young 19-year-
old girl who is accused of her boyfriend’s murder, but not everyone
knows the whole story.
Costume/props
The props that will very important to the storyline will be:
A mobile phone. This will be essential when shooting the
scenes when the main character is texting the other girl, as I
need to film shots of her typing out her messages.
A knife, or a fake knife for health and safety reasons, that will
play a part in the filming of the murder. We don’t see the
actual murder, but the use of the knife is what plays a massive
part in insinuating it.
The clothes that will be sourced for my actors will be their
own, and I will tell them to dress quite dark to fit the genre of
drama and mystery. Blacks and greys typically symbolize
death, which is a running theme in this film and a small effect. I
don’t think my actors would look right in bright colors.
Location scouting
2. In my script, all of the scenes I planned was internal and inside of the
same house. This is because the past murder occurs in the house, so
I want the flashback shots and the current shots to match up. I want
this so it’s like everything reminds her of the murder and of him. I
also am only limiting it to one internal location because it will be an
easier recce and much quicker to get permission from whoever’s
house I decide to shoot in, whether it be my own or my friend’s.
Health and safety
We have to consider possibly health and safety hazards that could
arise and treat is as if it is a serious studio film. I have considered that
if anything could happen with the ‘knife’ prop that will be used, e.g.
if someone slipped and fell with it and an accident happened. This
means that we must use a fake knife; this reduces the risks a lot
more and means we will have to do some quicker shots to cover the
fact it is a fake knife. The risks are quite limited as it is not an open
and public location, so no one from the general public could be
affected by anything during shooting.
Shooting schedule
Since me and my friend who is my actor both have college, jobs and
a social life to maintain, my shooting schedule will be quite short but
longer hours due to the fact it is all in one house. This means I don’t
have to worry about transport, or not envisioning the location like
we wanted to, or any other issue that could crop up to do with
location and travel.
