4. • We are now going to look at some images.
• For each image write down one sentence that says
something about what black people could/couldn’t do.
• Example:
Looking at segregation in practice
Sentence: Black people couldn’t drink from
the same fountains as white people.
12. Behavioral separation
• Whites served first.
• Blacks could not try on clothes ”You put it on,
and it’s yours”.
• At restaurants black people could order take
away, but not sit down to eat.
13. Writing activity
• Imagine that you are a black person living in the
South of the USA at the beginning of the 20th
century.Write an entry in your diary about your
last week. Focus on:
– Your experiences with segregation.
– How those experiences affect you.
