What is meant by stamping
Stamping is a production technology that, with the power of conventional or specialized
stamping equipment, deforms the sheet directly in the die to obtain a product part of a certain
shape, size and performance. The sheet, the die and the equipment are the three elements of
stamping. Stamping is a cold deformation method of metal processing. Therefore, it is called cold
stamping or sheet metal stamping, or stamping for short. It is one of the main methods of metal
plastic processing (or pressure processing) and is also part of material forming engineering
technology.
Classification of stamping
In order to meet the requirements of shape, size, precision, batch size and raw material
performance of stamped parts, various stamping methods are used in production. In summary,
stamping processes can be divided into two categories: separation processes and forming
processes.
Separation process
It is the process of separating the stamped parts from the sheet along a certain contour line

Introduction to stamping dies
The die used for stamping is called a stamping die for short. A stamping die is a special tool for
processing material (metal or non-metal) in bulk into the desired stamped part. Stamping dies are
crucial in stamping. Without the required dies, it is difficult to carry out batch stamping
production; without advanced dies, advanced stamping processes cannot be realized. Stamping
process, die, stamping equipment and stamping material constitute the three elements of
stamping process, and only when they are combined with each other can a stamped part be
produced.
Properties of alloy steel
With the development of science and technology and industry, higher requirements are put
forward for materials, such as higher strength, resistance to high temperature, high pressure, low
temperature, corrosion resistance, wear resistance and other special physical and chemical
properties, and carbon steel can no longer fully meet the requirements.
The shortcomings of carbon steel.
(1) low hardenability. In general, the maximum quenching diameter of carbon steel water
quenching is only 10mm-20mm.
(2) strength and yield strength is relatively low. Such as ordinary carbon steel Q235 steel σs for
235MPa, while low-alloy structural steel 16Mn σs is more than 360MPa. 40 steel σs / σb is
only 0.43, much lower than alloy steel.
(3) Tempering stability is poor. Due to poor tempering stability, carbon steel in the tempering
treatment, in order to ensure higher strength needs to use a lower tempering temperature, so
the steel toughness is low; in order to ensure better toughness, the use of high tempering
temperature strength and low, so the carbon steel comprehensive mechanical properties level is
not high.
(4) can not meet the requirements of special properties. Carbon steel in oxidation resistance,
corrosion resistance, heat resistance, low temperature resistance, wear resistance and special
electromagnetic properties areoften poor, can not meet the needs of special performance.
