Weaknesses Of Hamlet
The Weaknesses of Hamlet Hamlet, the immortal classic in the historical literature written by Shakespeare, has been studied and respected by countless
literati in the early 17th century. The story is filled with the shadow of death and the emotion of tragedy, beginning with the emergence of death and
ending with death. In this tragedy, Hamlet is the representative work and has long been loved by people. In terms of the inner performance of the
character, Hamlet is the most confusing, or the most philosophical. He examines the world with a skeptical eye: human nature is ugly, the world is
cold, the heaven is unjust. All this has set the stage for the final tragic ending of Hamlet. What kind of character causes Hamlet to have such a...show

Hamlet was distraught, and what happened in made him in the abyss of pain. So, he began to complain that his mother should not have given
birth to him. "Go to the nunnery; Why do you bring out a group of sinners? I am not a particularly bad person myself, but I can point out my many
faults, one person has those faults, his mother had better not give birth to his good... to the nunnery." He hated evil, looked forward to the justice.
Therefore, he took on all responsibilities to his own shoulders, endured all kinds of difficulties, and struggled on. Thirdly, Hamlet has the character
of indecision. Hamlet has both delicate and a hesitant side, which is one causes of the final tragedy. When facing a series of mutations such as the
betrayal of parents and lovers, Hamlet increasingly eagers to revenge. He said to his friends in crazy, "my dear friends, once you are my close
friend, if you have need it to be the place where I Hamlet, I must try my best, please you must help me keep the secret. This society is too messy, I am
so unlucky, I must save the world, you go with me." Hamlet decided to revenge himself, and he secretly swore to himself in his heart that he must save
the world. On the other hand, Hamlet hesitated to kill the enemy. He had some perfect chances to kill his enemy, but under the influence of indecision,
the revenge failed

Many deaths have occurred in our time, but none as good as the death of the great prince, which we witnessed today. We come together to respect
the great Prince Hamlet. He was such a great friend to all including myself. Hamlet was a very helpful man who truly only strived to do good for the
people. He loved to sit and listen, he was a noble man as well and stuck with his word as he would fight for what he believed in. Hamlet had many trials
in his life and suffered tribulations in such a short amount of time. He had to go through the death of his own father, King Hamlet, which wasn't too
long ago. It was a huge thing to compromise with and face reality. Hamlet took it pretty hard just like any other person would. Having his father pass

Hamlet And Hamlet
While Shakespeare was writing Hamlet it's safe to assume that he would not realize the repercussions that would arise. Surely, he did not know much
about psychology yet, he is referred to by many today as the world's first psychologist due to his play Hamlet. Shakespeare was acutely aware of what
was happening around him and he was able to convey that through his work making the character Hamlet a vessel for audiences and readers alike to
relate to. This relatability has since spilled over into our culture and society and continues to influence modern artists. Hamlet has also laid the
foundations for many modern archetypes we see in entertainment today such as; the tragic hero. Not only this but, Hamlet has also inspired many
adaptations such as The Lion King which played a large part in many young millenials lives without many of them realizing it was based off of
Hamlet. Although, this may be considered Shakespeare's greatest play of all time there is no denying, it is fundamentally flawed and has inevitably
influenced our culture through those flaws as well. Whether he did intentionally or not will never be known but never the less, Shakespeare enveloped
psychology into his work. Arguably, one of the more famous things Shakespeare unintentionally influenced was Freudian psychology. Freud was the
true father of psychology and although many of his theories have been debunked and disproved, they still had a major influence on the science and
foundations behind psychology.

According to David Ball, in his book Forwards and Backwards, " you can't begin to find a play's meaning until you comprehend its works" (Ball 3).
William Shakespeare's Hamlet is an excellently written dramatic tragedy, that when analyzed well, is a dynamically diverse piece of literature. Hamlet
is an ideal play for analyzing, with much exposition, clear stasis and intrusion, good use of theatrical elements, suspenseful forwards, and multiple
cause and effect triggers and heaps.
The exposition in Hamlet is in constant development throughout act I, scenes i and ii, as the characters, in a natural way, give the audience
information about the current state of Denmark. From the first scene of act I, it is revealed that the characters Horatio, Bernardo, Francisco, and
Marcellus, are guards for the palace in Denmark. As they speak, the audience realizes that for the last few nights an apparition has been appearing at
the same time every night, midnight, the time when the play begins. More exposition is then revealed through Horatio as he speaks about the ghost
and it's possible relationship to the previous war against Norway, as well as the effects the war had on the characters present.
Our last king, whose image even but now appeared to us, was, as you know, by Fortinbras of Norway, thereto pricked on by a most emulate pride,
dared to the combat; in which our valiant Hamlet–for so this side of our known world esteemed him–did slay this Fortinbras; who by a sealed compact

Essay on Hamlet’s Pride in Shakespeare’s Hamlet
In William Shakespeare's tragic drama Hamlet, the hero, Hamlet, appears to be guilty of hubris, an overstepping of the bounds of both his and
humanity's destinies, which ultimately leads to his downfall. Reading the play with a consideration as to how Hamlet's hubris manifests itself sheds
light on why he performs certain actions, and simultaneously enlightens the reader to the dangers of attempting to overstep the confines of humanity.
In this essay, I will prove that Hamlet has extreme pride, and is therefore guilty of hubris; in accordance with Harold Skulsky's assertion in his article,
""I Know My Course": Hamlet's Confidence," Hamlet is hubristic because while he believes that his own soul is impenetrable based on his external

Yet, despite Hamlet's initial implication that it is humanly impossible to decipher another's inner nature based on his or her external actions, it
quickly becomes apparent that Hamlet feels that doing so is not outside of his ability. When his father's ghost reveals that Claudius murdered Old
Hamlet, Hamlet declares, "O my prophetic soul!" as if he knew, based on Claudius' exterior, that Claudius killed Old Hamlet (1.5.40). A prophetic
soul "dreams on things to come and inspires a man with second sight," and Hamlet's claim implies that he feels he has abilities beyond those of
humanity (Skulsky 479). From this point on, the pride Hamlet displays in this scene begins to swell. One of the first instances in which Hamlet proudly
attempts to discover the nature of others based on their external actions is when he is talking with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern upon their arrival at
Elsinore (2.2.250–282). In an attempt to decide whether they will "deal justly" with him, he asks broad, "throwaway" questions to test how
"spontaneous or hesitant" their confession that the King sent for them will be (Skulsky 481). Based on their external appearances, Hamlet confidently
determines that he cannot trust them, and in doing so, oversteps the boundaries of humanity, because "God alone can compel [people] . . . to give
[them]selves away

Hamlet Themes
In his play, Hamlet, William Shakespeare invites his audience into a multi–layered tragedy that encapsulates many motives, deaths, and moments of
deceit. Shakespeare utilizes a variety of themes to communicate important insights and to give emphasis to various important messages of the play.
Hamlet encapsulates many themes, such as revenge, appearance versus reality, sanity versus insanity, decay and corruption, family dynamic, and
gender, that all mingle together throughout the plot to emphasis the main ideas. Throughout the scenes, the reader meets Prince Hamlet, the son of the
late King Hamlet. Prince Hamlet returns home for his father's funeral when he realizes that his mother has already remarried his uncle, Claudius. It is
not too long after all of this information is revealed to Prince Hamlet that his late father's ghost arrives in the castle and asks him to avenge his death on
the murderer, Prince Hamlet's uncle. This unravels a plethora of twists and turns that strategically accentuate each theme to a different degree.
Throughout Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, it is evident that revenge is the most significant theme to the play as it is strongly emphasized in many
instances throughout the plot, most significantly, Hamlet's journey to kill Claudius and Laertes' drive to seek vengeance on Hamlet, his father's
murderer. To explain, in the play, revenge is very prominent and crucial in many aspects of the play. The theme itself, as portrayed in Hamlet,

Hamlet: Literary Essay
In the play of Hamlet, Shakespeare sets up three plots of revenge which involve three characters, each determined to avenge their deceased loved ones.
Revenge is essentially a recurring element in the play and can be noted as an important theme. Revenge is often lead by uncontrolled emotions,
affecting an individual's thoughts and feelings differently and provoking the individual to act without a reason. The play helps us question the
justifiability and benefits of revenge through the story's individual characters. King Hamlet appears as a ghost and informs Hamlet that he was
murdered in his sleep by Claudius. He tells his son that while he was sleeping, Claudius poured poison into his ear. Hamlet is shocked by the ghosts

(IV.5.135) Claudius is able to manipulate Laertes and Hamlet in a duel, claiming that "Revenge should have no bounds" (IV.7.128) and promising
that Hamlet would be poisoned to death. At this point of the play, all three sons are committed to avenging their father's deaths. Laertes is also
notified that Ophelia has drowned, further upsetting him, and worsening the current situation. The three significant characters: Hamlet, Fortinbras,
and Laertes each have their own ways of seeking vengeance, for their father's deaths and obtaining their desires. Fortinbras uses revenge as an
excuse to send in his army to take back the territories his father lost to King Hamlet, which justifies that he wants some sort of control. Hamlet and
Laertes know that their father's have been wronged. Hamlet suffers from depression, and the kingdom does not know the true reason behind his
father's death, so he is determined to reveal truth and overturn his uncle. Laertes is enraged about his father and sister's unnecessary death, blaming
Hamlet for the cause of it. The play can be viewed as a tragic story with multiple deaths mainly provoked by members of their own family and
kingdom. They are forced to duel, and fight to the death to honor their father's soul, rather then to resolve the situation in a civilized way. The motif:
revenge is recurring because the characters of the play feel the need avenge their fathers, they are driven mad by it, as it takes control of their mind.

9 December 2016 Actions speak louder than words. So in Hamlet written by Shakespeare there is a lot of dichotomy between words vs. actions. The
basic idea of dichotomy is the difference between to similar ideas or actions. In the play Hamlet there are two ideas that are butting heads. These
would be words vs. actions. In the play there is a lot of talking and saying stuff about other people and there is actions to be followed by the words
that were said. Throughout the essay you are about to read their will be use in imagery and symbols to help distinguish between the two ideas to
morally make a theme for play. Through the the essay there will be evidence of how words and actions are different from each other 's which
makes a theme for Hamlet which makes Hamlet more easy to understand when the reader is about to start the play. In Hamlet there is a lot of use of
symbols and imagery so the reader can understand and feel the conflicts that are going on in the play. The symbols and imagery used in Hamlet lets
the reader know what the theme may be and what the author is really trying to profess in Hamlet. So in hamlet the most common image and most
important is the ghost in scene five. The ghost tells Hamlet the Claudius (who happens to be Hamlets uncle) had killed him. The ghost tells Hamlet to
get revenge and kill Claudius. Hamlet then makes his guards swear

Hamlet Theme In Hamlet
In the play Hamlet there are many themes that were brought to our attention; Madness, Revenge, Mortality, Religion, Incest, Family, and Death. In this
essay we will be discussing two of these themes that we found intriguing, the two themes are Death, and Revenge.
(2.2.487–488) In Act 2 Hamlet asks for a speech, and the First Player delivers a description of the killing of old, white haired King Priam. Pyrrhus
(The Killer), swings his sword at King Priam, and misses, but King Priam ends up falling to the ground anyway. At that moment a tower crashes to the
ground. For an instant, with his sword held above Priam's head, Pyrrhus listens to the rumble of the falling tower, but "after Pyrrhus' pause, / Aroused
vengeance sets him new a–work." In this is scene Vengeance is Revenge but Pyrrhus does not represent the same kind of emotions that Hamlet has
backing his intentions for revenge. The First Player weeps as he tells Hamlet the story of Queen Hecuba's grief for her husband. Hamlet thinks to
himself that the First Player feels more strongly for Queen Hecuba then Hamlet does for his father. Hamlet begins to unravel and realize that he's still
talking rather than taking action.
O, vengeance! Why, what an ass am I! This is most brave, That I, the son of a dear father murder'd, Prompted to my revenge by heaven and hell,
Must, like a whore, unpack my heart with words, And fall a–cursing, like a very drab, A stallion! Fie upon't! foh! (2.2.581–587).
Hamlet decides that instead of taking revenge he will see if the ghost is telling the truth or not. He says that he wants to take revenge but does not
have the heart in him to do it. This helps to develop the play because we see that Hamlet is reluctant to take revenge for his father because he doesn't
really know the truth of what happened. After the death of Hamlet's father Hamlet is obsessed with the idea of death. He ponders both the spiritual
aftermath of death, embodied in the ghost, and the physical remainders of the dead, such as by Yorick's skull and the decaying corpses in the cemetery.
The question of his own death plagues Hamlet as well, as he repeatedly contemplates whether or not suicide is a morally legitimate action in an
unbearably painful world.

Hamlet Essay Topic 2. As the son of a murdered noble, Hamlet is obligated to avenge the death of his father. It was the many losses faced by Hamlet
in his life filled with extreme tragedies that forced him to avenge his father's death from Claudius"."In 'Hamlet', a play by William Shakespeare; the
protagonist, Hamlet throughout the play is perceived to be mad however Hamlet's insanity was more than an act. Hamlet's father's ghost sent him on a
mission to kill Claudius to avenge his death, he tried to go but he kept hesitating back and forth. It was not that he was unfaithful, and he did not want
to do it, but he was not done thinking it out. Every time he was about to do the deed...show more content...
"The spirit I have seen may be a Devil."(2.2.565) Once again, he is questioning whether or not to do it. He is trying to get all of the facts out and
trying to see if the ghost is really king hamlet and not a evil spirit trying to trick him into killing Claudius. Hamlet really does want revenge even
though he is procrastinating a lot. "I have cause, and will, and strength, and means/ To do't". It is possible to argue that Hamlet has no opportunity to
effect revenge – the King is obviously well guarded but Hamlet himself says that he is able to fulfill his purpose. It is clear that Hamlet is not
denied his revenge by mere practicalities; he has the opportunity, for example, to kill Claudius while he is at prayer, when he may 'do it. Hamlet
delays in killing Claudius not only because he is suffering from an Oedipal complex but also because he is far too sane or practical to commit an act
of murder. Basically sanity is keeping him from killing his uncle. Hamlet is like a soldier that is thrown into a war where he has to do some things he
rather would not do, but under certain circumstances he bites his teeth and carries himself

Hamlet
William Shakespeare composed the play Hamlet, around 1600–1601. This play, named after his only son, in my opinion is one of Shakespeare's best
works. The play shows the literal as well as the realistic sides of people during this culture as well as those generations to come. During the play,Hamlet
's character went through several different transitions. In the beginning he was shown as a child, by his actions and curiosity, but towards the end of
play his manhood begins surface and he begins to be aggressive at getting what he wants. Hamlet is full of mysterious relationships. Hamlets

Hamlet is affected psychologically because he begins to breakdown and has to acknowledge the fact that the murder of his father has taken place and
that his mother acts as if nothing has happened and even weds the villain.
I truly believe that Gertrude may not have been apart of the killing of her late husband Hamlet Sr. but she seems like the type of female who has no
opinion or say so of her own. During the scene where Hamlet and Laertes fight in Ophelia's grave, death is the charge to show who loved Ophelia
the most. Instead of stopping the fight and telling Hamlet to regain his senses and that Laertes is Ophelia's brother she stands there and does
nothing. I believe that Gertrude was a poor excuse for a mother in this play, because she made everything center around her new king instead of her
own child. Hamlet say's: I have heard of your paintings too well enough God has given you one face and you make yourselves another: you jig,
you amble, and you lisp, and nickname Gods creatures and make your wantonness your ignorance. Go do, I'll no more on't; it hath made me mad. I
say we will have no more marriages; those that are married already all but one shall live: the rest shall keep as they are. To a nunnery go." Act three

Is Life too Short to Wait? Hamlet had every reason in the world to kill his uncle turned stepfather, Claudius. Once he would have been able to explain
the truth about his uncle's dirty deeds, nobody would have been upset with his actions. So the question remains, why did Hamlet take so long to take

takes the first step in exposing Claudius' treacherous ways. "If the prince had gone naturally to work in the first act, the play would have ended right

overwhelmed by the task imposed by his father's ghost, after first boasting that his revenge would be swift," (Shaw 1). On many occasions, he
expresses the guilt in his inactivity. This is most prevalent in his third soliloquy, "O what a rogue and peasant slave am I! ... Yet I / A dull and

Analysis of Hamlet Essay
Hamlet is a suspenseful play that introduces the topic of tragedy. Throughout the play, Hamlet displays anger, uncertainty, and obsession with death.
Although Hamlet is unaware of it, these emotions cause the mishaps that occur throughout the play. These emotions combined with his unawareness
are the leading basis for the tragic hero's flaws. These flaws lead Hamlet not to be a bad man, but a regular form of imperfection that comes along with
being human. When Hamlet is first encountered with the ghost that resembles his father, it is revealed that his uncle Claudius might have been the cause
of his father's death. Hamlet is then confused about what he should believe and how he...show more content...
When he does act, he prefers to do it recklessly and violently. This is a flaw that Hamlet cannot deny. He knows that it is unjust, but only cares
about avenging his father's death. Hamlet is not only angered with the fact of his father's death, but also with his mother's decision to marry
Claudius. Devastated by his mother's decision to marry so soon after her husband's death, Hamlet becomes skeptical about women in general. He
shows a particular obsession with what he perceives to be a connection with female sexuality and moral corruption. He almost develops hatred
towards women because of his mother's decision. This hatred occurs and is shown with his relationship with Ophelia. He urges Ophelia to go to a
nunnery rather than experience the dishonesty of sexuality. This hinders Hamlet from experiencing a love that is really needed at this time of his loss.
One can say that this is another flaw, which Hamlet is unaware of. Throughout the course of the play, Hamlet is also obsessed with the mystery of
death. In the beginning of the play, he states that he is unsure where one ends up after they die. Later into the play, he makes a reference to the afterlife
contradicting his first approach. When he attempts to kill

Justice In Hamlet
Stories are used as a means of conveying a moral/message. Often, there are several different messages throughout the story. Themes are a strong way
to allow a reader to think about what they are reading and what the characters are really like in the stories. Sometimes, they may not be simple
characters–meaning it may require some thinking to understand what type of character he/she really is. Themes are also used to represent why certain
characters do not get along with each other, and there is usually a solid reason behind it. In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, the author
represents the opposing forces between characters using different themes to enhance the reader's understanding of the play and the characters. The
themes are: action versus inaction, appearance versus reality, and revenge vs justice. Therefore, these themes highlight the conflict between the two
opposing forces. First of all, Hamlet and Laertes are represented by revenge versus justice. Although they want the same outcome–to kill the
murderer–they have different purposes for it. When Hamlet finds out that Claudius is the one to murder his father, he wants vengeance for his death.
All he wants is for Claudius to die, he does not care how he achieves his goal. "Now might I do it pat. Now he is a–praying. / And now I'll do 't. And
so he goes to heaven. / And so am I revenged.–That would be scanned. / A villain kills my father, and, for that, / I, his sole son, do this same villain

Existential Crisis In Hamlet
In Shakespeare's Hamlet, a tale of murder, tragedy, pain, and grief is told. Since its creation, a number of people have analyzed, explained, and
criticized Hamlet. As with all literary criticism, a number of approaches have been applied to the play, with varying results and interpretations. In
particular, analysis of Hamlet through an existential lens, as a revenge–tragedy, as viewed through a Freudian philosophy, through analysis of the
psychology of characters in other ways, and as it relates to the history surrounding it show particularly keen insights into the work itself.
In the work, Hamlet himself frequently finds himself caught in a existential crisis, making the existential outlook on the play an appropriate one.
Frequently throughout the play, Hamlet finds himself questioning his existence, and more specifically, "to be, or not to be" (Shakespeare, 3.1). The
nature of Hamlet's existential crisis is not one of whether or not he does exist, but rather, whether or not he should exist. Hamlet's mindset is reflective
of viewpoint not uncommon at the time of the play's conception–– that the world is rotten, and he must suffer through it (Tekinay 117). The particular
events of Hamlet's own life lead him to the conclusion that, for his existence to remain bearable, he must either end his own life or exact revenge on
Claudius. The former is where existentialism is seen in Hamlet; through his ability to decide whether or not his existence should continue, Hamlet is
forced to question the meaning and value of his life. He begins to see the people around him as something entirely different from himself, and as his
enemies. Save for Horatio, Hamlet no longer considers himself to be part of the rest of humanity (Tekinay 120), and this drives him to look down
upon the rest of humanity. He views them as more foolish and less aware, a perception revealed to the readers through asides and impolite comments
that go unnoticed by other characters in the play. This distaste for others leads Hamlet to wonder where his own worth is, and the conclusion he
eventually comes to is that it is his revenge that is most important to the question of his "being." Hamlet views his duty towards revenge as the
justification for his

Hamlet
One of the most unique elements of the Hamlet character is that he is so human. Many types of readers can identify with him. Hamlet is imperfect,
and he is fretful. Hamlet has human properties, and it is his humanity that I intend to explore. Indeed it is these human qualities and imperfections that
make his story so tragic. Another tragic part of the play is the plays irony. Irony is an important tool in the hands of the playwright to achieve both
comical and/or dramatic effect. There is usually little reason for a tragedy to be funny, so
Shakespeare has used this tool to add more tragedy to the play. I will investigate the nature of this irony. Also, I will investigate the types of conflict
that play a major part in the play...show more content...
One occurrence of irony I found particularly striking was the fact that Hamlet effectively maneuvers himself into the same position as Claudius.
Claudius had attacked and killed a man who did not have the opportunity to defend himself, but when Hamlet kills Polonius, is he not guilty of the
same? It is intriguing that both Claudius and Hamlet have killed fathers. It is interesting to see how these two completely different characters deal
with this problem in different ways. Other interesting parallels I found are the numerous deaths by poison. Hamlet's father was murdered by
Claudius with poison. In the final act, the queen is the first to be poisoned, by drinking from Hamlet's cup. Then, Hamlet is wounded by the
poisoned tip of Laertes' sword. When they change swords, Hamlet gets the upper hand and Laertes is poisoned. When the queen dies, Laertes
explains all to Hamlet, before he dies. Hamlet then kills Claudius before dying himself. It is ironic that, as Claudius is poisoned because of his own
plotting, he had already signed his own death warrant when he killed Hamlet's father, the first tragic action of the play. There are only three people in
this play who don't die by poisoning: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern meet their deaths in England, after being outsmarted by Hamlet. The third is
Ophelia, who is drowned.
There are three types of conflict I can identify in the play: 'man versus man', 'man versus nature' and 'man versus

Hamlet As A Comedy, Witness The Dark Humor
While Hamlet is considered a tragedy the humor that is displayed can change it from a tragedy to a tragi–comedy. Hamlet has been called one of
William Shakespeare's greatest works (Draudt, 85). Death is sad but the dark humor gives it a different satire to the event. The language of the play is
used to create comedy with wit that is meant to be pleasing to the audience and define what kind of characters are in the play. Hamlet the person plays
many parts the clown, the fool and the madman. Hamlet is his own dramatis persons within an ironic tragic–comedy mocking the corrupt court of
Denmark (Lamont, 382). Dark humor is the kind of comedy that does not embody criticism of human folly; it embraces imagination and human
freedom (Thompson, 219). This essay is designed to give a brief synopsis for the reader to see Hamlet as a comedy, witness the dark humor.
The emotions involved in the heroic plot are due to the nature of the tragi–comedy that has two distinct components. The first is usurpation and the
second is the invasion or threat/defense/death. The usurpation involves the rightful leader being removed from his position of authority illegitimately.
The ruler is sent into exile and nearly dies, is the most common form of this plot. The invasion focuses on the conflict with in the society, the royal
family (Hogan, 35). Hogan's theory of a tragic–comedy outlines why and how Hamlet is a comedy. One of Hamlet's good characteristics is that he is
subtle and constant ability

Persuasive Essay About Hamlet
Hamlet Is A Deceiver
Insanity is a perfectly rational adjustment to the sane world. In the play Hamlet several times only with family and close family members has he
showed any signs of madness. However when he is alone he is thinking of ways to make other believe that he is insane. Hamlet is trying to deceive
everyone by his words and his actions. Essentially the book Hamlet is about a boy who needs to help his father to take revenge by assassinating the
king so that he may be in peace. Although Hamlet seems insane throughout most of the book, he is just faking it so that he may assassinate the king
and avenge his forebear.
Hamlet is trying to make his family believe that he is truly insane by his words. Hamlet says himself that he will be faking to be insane so that he
can kill Claudius when he says "as I perchance hereafter shall think meet to put on an antic disposition"(1.5.58), an antic disposition is to act insane
to seem harmless to Claudius. Also Hamlet says"Get thee to a nunnery. Why wouldst thou be a breeder of sinners? I am myself indifferent honest, but
yet I could accuse me of such things that it were better my mother had not borne me"(3.1.118). This shows that Hamlet is annoyed by his mother as
she so soonly remarried after her father death and he insulting his mother. As the ghost said to Hamlet "leave her to heaven and to those thorns that in
her bosom lodge to prick and sting her"(1.5.89), which was basically asking him to not physically hurt his mother but to make her feel ashamed for her
actions that her consciousness overwhelms her and she comes to realize how offending of an act she has done. Gertrude is shocked when Hamlet starts
to talk to the wall and she says "O gentle son, upon the heat and flame of thy distemper sprinkle cool patience! whereon do you look?"(3.4.132–141).
As the ghost just talked to Hamlet and since Gertrude did not see the ghost she thought that Hamlet was talking to the wall. Hence Gertrude is
convinced that Hamlet is insane as he is talking to the wall. It also was a move by Hamlet to talk to the wall to make Gertrude believe that he was
insane, as it was all part of his plan to kill Claudius. Hamlet demonstrates another action of madness when he strikes

Hamlet Hamlet Critique
Hamlet, a play by William Shakespeare, was written in approximately the middle to late 1590's, while Shakespeare's work was flourishing, and his
company was putting up the Globe Theater. Shakespeare was a profound writer, and Hamlet is considered to be his most prolific writing, and is a
favorite among the readers. It is a tragic tale of conspiracy, death, disease, and a young man's struggle to avenge his father's murder.
I would like to set apart Hamlet from the array of characters in this play, as to analyze him from a formalist point of view. To start off, Hamlet was, of
course, the main character. As a promising king, his life is suddenly torn apart by his father's death, and his mother,Gertrude's...show more content...
Some of the most common were his uses of dramatic irony, subplots, monologues and dialogues, soliloquies, asides, and even contractions and invented
words. He also added things to help move the play along, things of interest, such as ghosts, letters, eavesdropping, love, violence, music, fools, and
sound effects. Hamlet, in its entirety is an excellent example of these things. For instance, the one that you might notice right off the bat, is the use of a
ghost, which appears throughout the play to instruct young Hamlet. Hamlet always interacts with the ghost, and that adds drama, and a bit of
spookiness to the play.
Another critical element about Hamlet is used in Shakespeare verse forms. Language in this play can tell the reader what kind of person is talking.
For instance, Polonius talks in rhyme verse very often, which was used by fools, lovers, and often times fairies and other mythical creatures (in
Shakespeare's works). Since Polonius rarely makes sense, and talks circles around himself, rhyme verse is appropriate because Polonius is a fool.
Hamlet, usually talks in blank verse, which was used by royalty and those of high intelligence. This would make sense, since Hamlet is of royal
blood. Shakespeare was very clever in using this technique to give the reader an idea of a character's personality, background, attitude, etc. (That is, if
you can actually understand Shakespeare!).
One more element I would like to assess

Hamlet's Weaknesses Revealed

  • 1. Weaknesses Of Hamlet The Weaknesses of Hamlet Hamlet, the immortal classic in the historical literature written by Shakespeare, has been studied and respected by countless literati in the early 17th century. The story is filled with the shadow of death and the emotion of tragedy, beginning with the emergence of death and ending with death. In this tragedy, Hamlet is the representative work and has long been loved by people. In terms of the inner performance of the character, Hamlet is the most confusing, or the most philosophical. He examines the world with a skeptical eye: human nature is ugly, the world is cold, the heaven is unjust. All this has set the stage for the final tragic ending of Hamlet. What kind of character causes Hamlet to have such a...show more content... Hamlet was distraught, and what happened in made him in the abyss of pain. So, he began to complain that his mother should not have given birth to him. "Go to the nunnery; Why do you bring out a group of sinners? I am not a particularly bad person myself, but I can point out my many faults, one person has those faults, his mother had better not give birth to his good... to the nunnery." He hated evil, looked forward to the justice. Therefore, he took on all responsibilities to his own shoulders, endured all kinds of difficulties, and struggled on. Thirdly, Hamlet has the character of indecision. Hamlet has both delicate and a hesitant side, which is one causes of the final tragedy. When facing a series of mutations such as the betrayal of parents and lovers, Hamlet increasingly eagers to revenge. He said to his friends in crazy, "my dear friends, once you are my close friend, if you have need it to be the place where I Hamlet, I must try my best, please you must help me keep the secret. This society is too messy, I am so unlucky, I must save the world, you go with me." Hamlet decided to revenge himself, and he secretly swore to himself in his heart that he must save the world. On the other hand, Hamlet hesitated to kill the enemy. He had some perfect chances to kill his enemy, but under the influence of indecision, the revenge failed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Hamlet Argumentative Essay Many deaths have occurred in our time, but none as good as the death of the great prince, which we witnessed today. We come together to respect the great Prince Hamlet. He was such a great friend to all including myself. Hamlet was a very helpful man who truly only strived to do good for the people. He loved to sit and listen, he was a noble man as well and stuck with his word as he would fight for what he believed in. Hamlet had many trials in his life and suffered tribulations in such a short amount of time. He had to go through the death of his own father, King Hamlet, which wasn't too long ago. It was a huge thing to compromise with and face reality. Hamlet took it pretty hard just like any other person would. Having his father pass away Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Hamlet And Hamlet While Shakespeare was writing Hamlet it's safe to assume that he would not realize the repercussions that would arise. Surely, he did not know much about psychology yet, he is referred to by many today as the world's first psychologist due to his play Hamlet. Shakespeare was acutely aware of what was happening around him and he was able to convey that through his work making the character Hamlet a vessel for audiences and readers alike to relate to. This relatability has since spilled over into our culture and society and continues to influence modern artists. Hamlet has also laid the foundations for many modern archetypes we see in entertainment today such as; the tragic hero. Not only this but, Hamlet has also inspired many adaptations such as The Lion King which played a large part in many young millenials lives without many of them realizing it was based off of Hamlet. Although, this may be considered Shakespeare's greatest play of all time there is no denying, it is fundamentally flawed and has inevitably influenced our culture through those flaws as well. Whether he did intentionally or not will never be known but never the less, Shakespeare enveloped psychology into his work. Arguably, one of the more famous things Shakespeare unintentionally influenced was Freudian psychology. Freud was the true father of psychology and although many of his theories have been debunked and disproved, they still had a major influence on the science and foundations behind psychology. • 4. Hamlet is an ideal play for analyzing, with much exposition, clear stasis and intrusion, good use of theatrical elements, suspenseful forwards, and multiple cause and effect triggers and heaps. The exposition in Hamlet is in constant development throughout act I, scenes i and ii, as the characters, in a natural way, give the audience information about the current state of Denmark. From the first scene of act I, it is revealed that the characters Horatio, Bernardo, Francisco, and Marcellus, are guards for the palace in Denmark. As they speak, the audience realizes that for the last few nights an apparition has been appearing at the same time every night, midnight, the time when the play begins. More exposition is then revealed through Horatio as he speaks about the ghost and it's possible relationship to the previous war against Norway, as well as the effects the war had on the characters present. Our last king, whose image even but now appeared to us, was, as you know, by Fortinbras of Norway, thereto pricked on by a most emulate pride, dared to the combat; in which our valiant Hamlet–for so this side of our known world esteemed him–did slay this Fortinbras; who by a sealed compact well Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Essay on Hamlet’s Pride in Shakespeare’s Hamlet In William Shakespeare's tragic drama Hamlet, the hero, Hamlet, appears to be guilty of hubris, an overstepping of the bounds of both his and humanity's destinies, which ultimately leads to his downfall. Reading the play with a consideration as to how Hamlet's hubris manifests itself sheds light on why he performs certain actions, and simultaneously enlightens the reader to the dangers of attempting to overstep the confines of humanity. In this essay, I will prove that Hamlet has extreme pride, and is therefore guilty of hubris; in accordance with Harold Skulsky's assertion in his article, ""I Know My Course": Hamlet's Confidence," Hamlet is hubristic because while he believes that his own soul is impenetrable based on his external ...show more content... Yet, despite Hamlet's initial implication that it is humanly impossible to decipher another's inner nature based on his or her external actions, it quickly becomes apparent that Hamlet feels that doing so is not outside of his ability. When his father's ghost reveals that Claudius murdered Old Hamlet, Hamlet declares, "O my prophetic soul!" as if he knew, based on Claudius' exterior, that Claudius killed Old Hamlet (1.5.40). A prophetic soul "dreams on things to come and inspires a man with second sight," and Hamlet's claim implies that he feels he has abilities beyond those of humanity (Skulsky 479). From this point on, the pride Hamlet displays in this scene begins to swell. One of the first instances in which Hamlet proudly attempts to discover the nature of others based on their external actions is when he is talking with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern upon their arrival at Elsinore (2.2.250–282). In an attempt to decide whether they will "deal justly" with him, he asks broad, "throwaway" questions to test how "spontaneous or hesitant" their confession that the King sent for them will be (Skulsky 481). Based on their external appearances, Hamlet confidently determines that he cannot trust them, and in doing so, oversteps the boundaries of humanity, because "God alone can compel [people] . . . to give [them]selves away Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Hamlet Themes In his play, Hamlet, William Shakespeare invites his audience into a multi–layered tragedy that encapsulates many motives, deaths, and moments of deceit. Shakespeare utilizes a variety of themes to communicate important insights and to give emphasis to various important messages of the play. Hamlet encapsulates many themes, such as revenge, appearance versus reality, sanity versus insanity, decay and corruption, family dynamic, and gender, that all mingle together throughout the plot to emphasis the main ideas. Throughout the scenes, the reader meets Prince Hamlet, the son of the late King Hamlet. Prince Hamlet returns home for his father's funeral when he realizes that his mother has already remarried his uncle, Claudius. It is not too long after all of this information is revealed to Prince Hamlet that his late father's ghost arrives in the castle and asks him to avenge his death on the murderer, Prince Hamlet's uncle. This unravels a plethora of twists and turns that strategically accentuate each theme to a different degree. Throughout Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, it is evident that revenge is the most significant theme to the play as it is strongly emphasized in many instances throughout the plot, most significantly, Hamlet's journey to kill Claudius and Laertes' drive to seek vengeance on Hamlet, his father's murderer. To explain, in the play, revenge is very prominent and crucial in many aspects of the play. The theme itself, as portrayed in Hamlet, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Hamlet: Literary Essay In the play of Hamlet, Shakespeare sets up three plots of revenge which involve three characters, each determined to avenge their deceased loved ones. Revenge is essentially a recurring element in the play and can be noted as an important theme. Revenge is often lead by uncontrolled emotions, affecting an individual's thoughts and feelings differently and provoking the individual to act without a reason. The play helps us question the justifiability and benefits of revenge through the story's individual characters. King Hamlet appears as a ghost and informs Hamlet that he was murdered in his sleep by Claudius. He tells his son that while he was sleeping, Claudius poured poison into his ear. Hamlet is shocked by the ghosts words. The...show more content... (IV.5.135) Claudius is able to manipulate Laertes and Hamlet in a duel, claiming that "Revenge should have no bounds" (IV.7.128) and promising that Hamlet would be poisoned to death. At this point of the play, all three sons are committed to avenging their father's deaths. Laertes is also notified that Ophelia has drowned, further upsetting him, and worsening the current situation. The three significant characters: Hamlet, Fortinbras, and Laertes each have their own ways of seeking vengeance, for their father's deaths and obtaining their desires. Fortinbras uses revenge as an excuse to send in his army to take back the territories his father lost to King Hamlet, which justifies that he wants some sort of control. Hamlet and Laertes know that their father's have been wronged. Hamlet suffers from depression, and the kingdom does not know the true reason behind his father's death, so he is determined to reveal truth and overturn his uncle. Laertes is enraged about his father and sister's unnecessary death, blaming Hamlet for the cause of it. The play can be viewed as a tragic story with multiple deaths mainly provoked by members of their own family and kingdom. They are forced to duel, and fight to the death to honor their father's soul, rather then to resolve the situation in a civilized way. The motif: revenge is recurring because the characters of the play feel the need avenge their fathers, they are driven mad by it, as it takes control of their mind. Their eyes are Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Analysis Of Shakespeare 's ' Hamlet ' Essay Martin Lassotovitch World Literature Mr. Urrutia 9 December 2016 Actions speak louder than words. So in Hamlet written by Shakespeare there is a lot of dichotomy between words vs. actions. The basic idea of dichotomy is the difference between to similar ideas or actions. In the play Hamlet there are two ideas that are butting heads. These would be words vs. actions. In the play there is a lot of talking and saying stuff about other people and there is actions to be followed by the words that were said. Throughout the essay you are about to read their will be use in imagery and symbols to help distinguish between the two ideas to morally make a theme for play. Through the the essay there will be evidence of how words and actions are different from each other 's which makes a theme for Hamlet which makes Hamlet more easy to understand when the reader is about to start the play. In Hamlet there is a lot of use of symbols and imagery so the reader can understand and feel the conflicts that are going on in the play. The symbols and imagery used in Hamlet lets the reader know what the theme may be and what the author is really trying to profess in Hamlet. So in hamlet the most common image and most important is the ghost in scene five. The ghost tells Hamlet the Claudius (who happens to be Hamlets uncle) had killed him. The ghost tells Hamlet to get revenge and kill Claudius. Hamlet then makes his guards swear Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Hamlet Theme In Hamlet In the play Hamlet there are many themes that were brought to our attention; Madness, Revenge, Mortality, Religion, Incest, Family, and Death. In this essay we will be discussing two of these themes that we found intriguing, the two themes are Death, and Revenge. (2.2.487–488) In Act 2 Hamlet asks for a speech, and the First Player delivers a description of the killing of old, white haired King Priam. Pyrrhus (The Killer), swings his sword at King Priam, and misses, but King Priam ends up falling to the ground anyway. At that moment a tower crashes to the ground. For an instant, with his sword held above Priam's head, Pyrrhus listens to the rumble of the falling tower, but "after Pyrrhus' pause, / Aroused vengeance sets him new a–work." In this is scene Vengeance is Revenge but Pyrrhus does not represent the same kind of emotions that Hamlet has backing his intentions for revenge. The First Player weeps as he tells Hamlet the story of Queen Hecuba's grief for her husband. Hamlet thinks to himself that the First Player feels more strongly for Queen Hecuba then Hamlet does for his father. Hamlet begins to unravel and realize that he's still talking rather than taking action. O, vengeance! Why, what an ass am I! This is most brave, That I, the son of a dear father murder'd, Prompted to my revenge by heaven and hell, Must, like a whore, unpack my heart with words, And fall a–cursing, like a very drab, A stallion! Fie upon't! foh! (2.2.581–587). Hamlet decides that instead of taking revenge he will see if the ghost is telling the truth or not. He says that he wants to take revenge but does not have the heart in him to do it. This helps to develop the play because we see that Hamlet is reluctant to take revenge for his father because he doesn't really know the truth of what happened. After the death of Hamlet's father Hamlet is obsessed with the idea of death. He ponders both the spiritual aftermath of death, embodied in the ghost, and the physical remainders of the dead, such as by Yorick's skull and the decaying corpses in the cemetery. The question of his own death plagues Hamlet as well, as he repeatedly contemplates whether or not suicide is a morally legitimate action in an unbearably painful world. As the son of a murdered noble, Hamlet is obligated to avenge the death of his father. It was the many losses faced by Hamlet in his life filled with extreme tragedies that forced him to avenge his father's death from Claudius"."In 'Hamlet', a play by William Shakespeare; the protagonist, Hamlet throughout the play is perceived to be mad however Hamlet's insanity was more than an act. Hamlet's father's ghost sent him on a mission to kill Claudius to avenge his death, he tried to go but he kept hesitating back and forth. It was not that he was unfaithful, and he did not want to do it, but he was not done thinking it out. Every time he was about to do the deed...show more content... He is trying to get all of the facts out and trying to see if the ghost is really king hamlet and not a evil spirit trying to trick him into killing Claudius. Hamlet really does want revenge even though he is procrastinating a lot. "I have cause, and will, and strength, and means/ To do't". It is possible to argue that Hamlet has no opportunity to effect revenge – the King is obviously well guarded but Hamlet himself says that he is able to fulfill his purpose. It is clear that Hamlet is not denied his revenge by mere practicalities; he has the opportunity, for example, to kill Claudius while he is at prayer, when he may 'do it. Hamlet delays in killing Claudius not only because he is suffering from an Oedipal complex but also because he is far too sane or practical to commit an act of murder. Basically sanity is keeping him from killing his uncle. Hamlet is like a soldier that is thrown into a war where he has to do some things he rather would not do, but under certain circumstances he bites his teeth and carries himself Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Hamlet Essay example Hamlet William Shakespeare composed the play Hamlet, around 1600–1601. This play, named after his only son, in my opinion is one of Shakespeare's best works. The play shows the literal as well as the realistic sides of people during this culture as well as those generations to come. During the play,Hamlet 's character went through several different transitions. In the beginning he was shown as a child, by his actions and curiosity, but towards the end of play his manhood begins surface and he begins to be aggressive at getting what he wants. Hamlet is full of mysterious relationships. Hamlets relationship with his so called friends (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern), his relationship with Ophelia (he proclaims his love at the end)...show more content... Hamlet is affected psychologically because he begins to breakdown and has to acknowledge the fact that the murder of his father has taken place and that his mother acts as if nothing has happened and even weds the villain. I truly believe that Gertrude may not have been apart of the killing of her late husband Hamlet Sr. but she seems like the type of female who has no opinion or say so of her own. During the scene where Hamlet and Laertes fight in Ophelia's grave, death is the charge to show who loved Ophelia the most. Instead of stopping the fight and telling Hamlet to regain his senses and that Laertes is Ophelia's brother she stands there and does nothing. I believe that Gertrude was a poor excuse for a mother in this play, because she made everything center around her new king instead of her own child. Hamlet say's: I have heard of your paintings too well enough God has given you one face and you make yourselves another: you jig, you amble, and you lisp, and nickname Gods creatures and make your wantonness your ignorance. • 12. Argumentative Essay On Hamlet Bonnie Holmes Richard Raspa ENG 2110 25 October 2014 Is Life too Short to Wait? Hamlet had every reason in the world to kill his uncle turned stepfather, Claudius. Once he would have been able to explain the truth about his uncle's dirty deeds, nobody would have been upset with his actions. So the question remains, why did Hamlet take so long to take action? For the majority of the play, Hamlet thinks up and talks about all the ways he could get revenge, but it isn't really until act three that Hamlet takes the first step in exposing Claudius' treacherous ways. "If the prince had gone naturally to work in the first act, the play would have ended right there," said Thomas Hammer (Nardo 61). Hammer couldn't have been more accurate. Last, Hamlet's pessimism and negativity go hand in hand with his low mood and anhedonia. Not only does he refer to Denmark as a prison, but he also expresses a strong sense of "inadequacy, when he quickly feels overwhelmed by the task imposed by his father's ghost, after first boasting that his revenge would be swift," (Shaw 1). On many occasions, he expresses the guilt in his inactivity. This is most prevalent in his third soliloquy, "O what a rogue and peasant slave am I! ... Yet I / A dull and muddy–mettled rascal peak / Like John–a–dreams, unpregnant of my cause..." (Shakespeare 134). This depressive illness was most likely not present his entire life, however. • 13. Analysis of Hamlet Essay Hamlet is a suspenseful play that introduces the topic of tragedy. Throughout the play, Hamlet displays anger, uncertainty, and obsession with death. Although Hamlet is unaware of it, these emotions cause the mishaps that occur throughout the play. These emotions combined with his unawareness are the leading basis for the tragic hero's flaws. These flaws lead Hamlet not to be a bad man, but a regular form of imperfection that comes along with being human. When Hamlet is first encountered with the ghost that resembles his father, it is revealed that his uncle Claudius might have been the cause of his father's death. Hamlet is then confused about what he should believe and how he...show more content... When he does act, he prefers to do it recklessly and violently. This is a flaw that Hamlet cannot deny. He knows that it is unjust, but only cares about avenging his father's death. Hamlet is not only angered with the fact of his father's death, but also with his mother's decision to marry Claudius. Devastated by his mother's decision to marry so soon after her husband's death, Hamlet becomes skeptical about women in general. He shows a particular obsession with what he perceives to be a connection with female sexuality and moral corruption. He almost develops hatred towards women because of his mother's decision. This hatred occurs and is shown with his relationship with Ophelia. He urges Ophelia to go to a nunnery rather than experience the dishonesty of sexuality. This hinders Hamlet from experiencing a love that is really needed at this time of his loss. One can say that this is another flaw, which Hamlet is unaware of. Throughout the course of the play, Hamlet is also obsessed with the mystery of death. In the beginning of the play, he states that he is unsure where one ends up after they die. Later into the play, he makes a reference to the afterlife contradicting his first approach. When he attempts to kill Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Justice In Hamlet Stories are used as a means of conveying a moral/message. Often, there are several different messages throughout the story. Themes are a strong way to allow a reader to think about what they are reading and what the characters are really like in the stories. Sometimes, they may not be simple characters–meaning it may require some thinking to understand what type of character he/she really is. Themes are also used to represent why certain characters do not get along with each other, and there is usually a solid reason behind it. In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, the author represents the opposing forces between characters using different themes to enhance the reader's understanding of the play and the characters. The themes are: action versus inaction, appearance versus reality, and revenge vs justice. Therefore, these themes highlight the conflict between the two opposing forces. First of all, Hamlet and Laertes are represented by revenge versus justice. Although they want the same outcome–to kill the murderer–they have different purposes for it. When Hamlet finds out that Claudius is the one to murder his father, he wants vengeance for his death. All he wants is for Claudius to die, he does not care how he achieves his goal. "Now might I do it pat. Now he is a–praying. / And now I'll do 't. • 15. Existential Crisis In Hamlet In Shakespeare's Hamlet, a tale of murder, tragedy, pain, and grief is told. Since its creation, a number of people have analyzed, explained, and criticized Hamlet. As with all literary criticism, a number of approaches have been applied to the play, with varying results and interpretations. In particular, analysis of Hamlet through an existential lens, as a revenge–tragedy, as viewed through a Freudian philosophy, through analysis of the psychology of characters in other ways, and as it relates to the history surrounding it show particularly keen insights into the work itself. The nature of Hamlet's existential crisis is not one of whether or not he does exist, but rather, whether or not he should exist. Hamlet's mindset is reflective of viewpoint not uncommon at the time of the play's conception–– that the world is rotten, and he must suffer through it (Tekinay 117). The particular events of Hamlet's own life lead him to the conclusion that, for his existence to remain bearable, he must either end his own life or exact revenge on Claudius. The former is where existentialism is seen in Hamlet; through his ability to decide whether or not his existence should continue, Hamlet is forced to question the meaning and value of his life. He begins to see the people around him as something entirely different from himself, and as his enemies. Save for Horatio, Hamlet no longer considers himself to be part of the rest of humanity (Tekinay 120), and this drives him to look down upon the rest of humanity. He views them as more foolish and less aware, a perception revealed to the readers through asides and impolite comments that go unnoticed by other characters in the play. This distaste for others leads Hamlet to wonder where his own worth is, and the conclusion he eventually comes to is that it is his revenge that is most important to the question of his "being." Hamlet views his duty towards revenge as the justification for his Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Essay about hamlet Hamlet One of the most unique elements of the Hamlet character is that he is so human. Many types of readers can identify with him. Hamlet is imperfect, and he is fretful. Hamlet has human properties, and it is his humanity that I intend to explore. Indeed it is these human qualities and imperfections that make his story so tragic. Another tragic part of the play is the plays irony. Irony is an important tool in the hands of the playwright to achieve both comical and/or dramatic effect. There is usually little reason for a tragedy to be funny, so Shakespeare has used this tool to add more tragedy to the play. I will investigate the nature of this irony. Also, I will investigate the types of conflict that play a major part in the play...show more content... One occurrence of irony I found particularly striking was the fact that Hamlet effectively maneuvers himself into the same position as Claudius. Claudius had attacked and killed a man who did not have the opportunity to defend himself, but when Hamlet kills Polonius, is he not guilty of the same? It is intriguing that both Claudius and Hamlet have killed fathers. It is interesting to see how these two completely different characters deal with this problem in different ways. Other interesting parallels I found are the numerous deaths by poison. Hamlet's father was murdered by Claudius with poison. In the final act, the queen is the first to be poisoned, by drinking from Hamlet's cup. Then, Hamlet is wounded by the poisoned tip of Laertes' sword. When they change swords, Hamlet gets the upper hand and Laertes is poisoned. When the queen dies, Laertes explains all to Hamlet, before he dies. Hamlet then kills Claudius before dying himself. It is ironic that, as Claudius is poisoned because of his own plotting, he had already signed his own death warrant when he killed Hamlet's father, the first tragic action of the play. There are only three people in this play who don't die by poisoning: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern meet their deaths in England, after being outsmarted by Hamlet. The third is Ophelia, who is drowned. There are three types of conflict I can identify in the play: 'man versus man', 'man versus nature' and 'man versus Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Hamlet As A Comedy, Witness The Dark Humor While Hamlet is considered a tragedy the humor that is displayed can change it from a tragedy to a tragi–comedy. Hamlet has been called one of William Shakespeare's greatest works (Draudt, 85). Death is sad but the dark humor gives it a different satire to the event. The language of the play is used to create comedy with wit that is meant to be pleasing to the audience and define what kind of characters are in the play. Hamlet the person plays many parts the clown, the fool and the madman. Hamlet is his own dramatis persons within an ironic tragic–comedy mocking the corrupt court of Denmark (Lamont, 382). Dark humor is the kind of comedy that does not embody criticism of human folly; it embraces imagination and human freedom (Thompson, 219). This essay is designed to give a brief synopsis for the reader to see Hamlet as a comedy, witness the dark humor. The emotions involved in the heroic plot are due to the nature of the tragi–comedy that has two distinct components. The first is usurpation and the second is the invasion or threat/defense/death. The usurpation involves the rightful leader being removed from his position of authority illegitimately. The ruler is sent into exile and nearly dies, is the most common form of this plot. The invasion focuses on the conflict with in the society, the royal family (Hogan, 35). Hogan's theory of a tragic–comedy outlines why and how Hamlet is a comedy. One of Hamlet's good characteristics is that he is subtle and constant ability Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Persuasive Essay About Hamlet Hamlet Is A Deceiver Insanity is a perfectly rational adjustment to the sane world. In the play Hamlet several times only with family and close family members has he showed any signs of madness. However when he is alone he is thinking of ways to make other believe that he is insane. Hamlet is trying to deceive everyone by his words and his actions. Essentially the book Hamlet is about a boy who needs to help his father to take revenge by assassinating the king so that he may be in peace. Although Hamlet seems insane throughout most of the book, he is just faking it so that he may assassinate the king and avenge his forebear. Hamlet is trying to make his family believe that he is truly insane by his words. Hamlet says himself that he will be faking to be insane so that he can kill Claudius when he says "as I perchance hereafter shall think meet to put on an antic disposition"(1.5.58), an antic disposition is to act insane to seem harmless to Claudius. Also Hamlet says"Get thee to a nunnery. Why wouldst thou be a breeder of sinners? I am myself indifferent honest, but yet I could accuse me of such things that it were better my mother had not borne me"(3.1.118). This shows that Hamlet is annoyed by his mother as she so soonly remarried after her father death and he insulting his mother. As the ghost said to Hamlet "leave her to heaven and to those thorns that in her bosom lodge to prick and sting her"(1.5.89), which was basically asking him to not physically hurt his mother but to make her feel ashamed for her actions that her consciousness overwhelms her and she comes to realize how offending of an act she has done. Gertrude is shocked when Hamlet starts to talk to the wall and she says "O gentle son, upon the heat and flame of thy distemper sprinkle cool patience! whereon do you look?"(3.4.132–141). As the ghost just talked to Hamlet and since Gertrude did not see the ghost she thought that Hamlet was talking to the wall. Hence Gertrude is convinced that Hamlet is insane as he is talking to the wall. It also was a move by Hamlet to talk to the wall to make Gertrude believe that he was insane, as it was all part of his plan to kill Claudius. Hamlet demonstrates another action of madness when he strikes Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Hamlet Essay examples Hamlet Hamlet Critique Hamlet, a play by William Shakespeare, was written in approximately the middle to late 1590's, while Shakespeare's work was flourishing, and his company was putting up the Globe Theater. Shakespeare was a profound writer, and Hamlet is considered to be his most prolific writing, and is a favorite among the readers. It is a tragic tale of conspiracy, death, disease, and a young man's struggle to avenge his father's murder. I would like to set apart Hamlet from the array of characters in this play, as to analyze him from a formalist point of view. To start off, Hamlet was, of course, the main character. As a promising king, his life is suddenly torn apart by his father's death, and his mother,Gertrude's...show more content... Some of the most common were his uses of dramatic irony, subplots, monologues and dialogues, soliloquies, asides, and even contractions and invented words. He also added things to help move the play along, things of interest, such as ghosts, letters, eavesdropping, love, violence, music, fools, and sound effects. Hamlet, in its entirety is an excellent example of these things. For instance, the one that you might notice right off the bat, is the use of a ghost, which appears throughout the play to instruct young Hamlet. Hamlet always interacts with the ghost, and that adds drama, and a bit of spookiness to the play. Another critical element about Hamlet is used in Shakespeare verse forms. Language in this play can tell the reader what kind of person is talking. For instance, Polonius talks in rhyme verse very often, which was used by fools, lovers, and often times fairies and other mythical creatures (in Shakespeare's works). Since Polonius rarely makes sense, and talks circles around himself, rhyme verse is appropriate because Polonius is a fool. Hamlet, usually talks in blank verse, which was used by royalty and those of high intelligence. This would make sense, since Hamlet is of royal blood. Shakespeare was very clever in using this technique to give the reader an idea of a character's personality, background, attitude, etc. (That is, if you can actually understand Shakespeare!).
