The Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) is a screening tool used to identify the cause of movement impairments, explain the sources of dysfunction, and determine effective treatment. It involves movement palpation, postural and neurological exams, and local biomechanical testing to efficiently find issues in 3 key areas - functional and nonpainful, functional and painful, dysfunctional and painful, and dysfunctional and nonpainful. The SFMA provides treatment guidelines and a scoring and flowchart logic to systematically screen problem areas and pinpoint the best treatment approach in a short time.
