Editor's Notes
STATE: Thank you for joining me today to discuss how together we will successfully launch the First Day™ Delivery Model at Camden County College.
Note to Presenter:
This LAUNCH DECK IS TO KICK-OFF the First Day™ Model at your institution.
This is not the first PP/Deck that should be shared, this is only appropriate if the First Day™ Model has already been approved by leadership.
Faculty/courses should or may have already been identified for the kick-off which may be considered a pilot.
In a best-case scenario the courses and material identified as potential for the First Day™ Pilot have preferred pricing locked in. The Regional Manager is responsible for working with the publishers and the home office to determine the correct pricing.
STATE: Our objective today is to review the user benefits of the new BNC First Day platform review the student experience and discuss the importance of communication to the student.
Notes to Presenter:
We recommend sharing this agenda before your launch meeting. Please review the agenda and customize/add topics that are important to your campus.
STATE: Our objective today is to review the user benefits of the new BNC First Day platform and determine the next steps and timeline in getting your campus onboarded.

STATE: Let’s review the student experience within the new First Day platform.
STATE: The most significant student benefit of the new First Day platform is that students can now access all their digital course materials via one LTI link within Canvas. Students no longer need to click through multiple links for each material or course.
Let’s take the student journey to access their First Day materials.
First, they log into their course in the LMS and then they see the Course Materials link, usually in the left-hand navigation.
The students click this link

STATE: From the Course Dashboard, the student can view their digital materials for all First Day courses on one page. Their materials are organized by course with each block representing a course material. There are three different content delivery options supported in the new dashboard.
Notes to Presenter:

STATE: There are 5 content delivery options for digital items, 2 of which involve eTextbooks
eBook
Digital Bundle (comprised of publisher courseware plus eBook, only available for select publishers)
STATE: There are 4 content delivery options for courseware items:
Publisher Courseware with Single Sign On – seamless integration at one link – We do not use this method.
Publisher Courseware with Publisher Direct – material is delivered outside of the Course Materials link, via the publisher’s LTI Integration. Students must still go to the Course Materials link to opt out
Publisher Courseware with Reveal Access Code – easy access code integration at one link
Digital Bundle (comprised of publisher courseware plus eBook, only available for select publishers) – We do not use this method.
STATE: Students are automatically opted into the course materials, as indicated by the checkmark box. If they wish to opt out of a specific material, they can do so, before the opt-out deadline, via an easy two-click process. Once they click the ‘Want to opt-out?’ link, an overlay appears giving them the option to opt-out, as shown here.
When opting out, students will select an opt-out reason here which is collected and can be reported back to your institution.
SHARE: Providing student’s a way to OPT-OUT of the course charge is required by the DOE and Barnes & Noble College will manage that process if we are permitted to integrate into the LMS. This will allow for the Opt-Out process to be consistent across all publishers. The First Day™ integration is within the LMS only, this integration works best because it gives faculty an opportunity to explain the program and its benefits to students. It also provides students ease of access by allowing them to review their syllabus and course materials while in the LMS. The SIS is only used for messaging to inform students about the First Day™ program.
We have found that when the Opt-Out language is executed clearly to students, we have less than 5% Opt-Out, the key is clear concise communication at those key decision points – meaning at registration and prior to the final opt-out deadline. It’s important that we partner on the messaging and that it is not done only in the OPT-OUT feature but within the course information & registration.
The content of your opt-out language must explain all the benefits of the program and strongly encourage students to use the embedded materials to support success and retention.
The bookstore will manage the program and provide the students a high level of customer service. The benefit of being right here on campus allows us to answer student questions, help them source material if they decide to Opt-Out and meet any other unique needs they may have.
Note to Presenter:
For FL schools, students are NOT automatically opted in. It is an OPT IN program meaning they have to opt-in to each course material.
SHARE: This is how to access the customercare.bncollege.com website for First Day®/Inclusive Access FAQs and support.
What sets us apart is our customer service, we are just an email or “Live” phone call away with our 24/7 online or call center access.
We also provide a higher level of customer service where they can receive 24/7 help by phone, email and digital chat options.
Note to presenter:
MBS has a robust 24/7 call center that is ready to assist.
STATE: Let’s review the student and faculty communication within the First Day program.
