UNIT STANDARD RANGE
The combination vehicle must consist of a drawing vehicle and trailer, or two vehicles, one of which
has a gross vehicle mass of less than 3, 5 tons. The trailer must be less than 75% of the gross
vehicle mass of the vehicle.
The scope of this unit standard is as follows:
· Trailer refers to one of the following:
> Drawbar trailer with a turn table.
> Semi-trailer (i.e. a trailer coupled through a 5th wheel).
· Articulation point refers to any coupling point either through:
> A fifth wheel; or
> A turn table of a drawbar trailer; or
> Couple interface between drawbar and drawing vehicle.

handle basic recovery situations and equipment, in an environmentally considerate manner. 4WD
vehicles include all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), Quad and Off-road Motor Bikes.
The qualifying learner is capable of:
· Identifying the range of features, vehicle options and capabilities of a 4WD vehicle or an ATV or a
Quad Bike or an Off road Motor Bike.
· Demonstrating an understanding of the preparation of a vehicle for off-road conditions.

recovery situations and equipment, in an environmentally considerate manner. 4WD vehicles include

Training Outcomes:
· The purpose of this programme is to address safe handling of a vehicle and horsebox
combination.
· The driver will learn techniques such as handeling the horsebox in confined spaces,
reversing, parking and securing the horsebox safely.
· Safety techniques will be shown to the driver, in avoiding possible jack knife situations, loss
of control, and how to manage the high centre of gravity of the horseboxes moving load.
· How to make sure that your horses are kept safe and injury free when driving
· Defensive and safety driving principles will also be shown to the driver to continuously be
aware of the surroundings, and how to apply appropriate defensive driving techniques to
avoid a potential incident or accident.
· An accredited training program of 4 days can also be done, which complies to the Unit
