1. How effective is the combination of your product and ancillary texts?
2. Distributors are organizations that are in charge of the theatrical release of
films.The way a film is distributed can be done in multiple ways including;
merchandise, actor and director interviews, posters, trailers, and DVD/Blue-
Ray copies of the film. The purpose of this type of distribution is to market
the film. The point of marketing is to raise awareness of the film and build
an audience so the film is as succesful as possible on its release. Distributors
must decided where and when a film will be advertised in order to achieve
the biggest result. Distributors will need to look into a films audience before
they do any major advertising as this will tell them where advertisement will
be most effective such as social media when a films audience consists of
teens and young adults.
3. The age of the target audience is very important when marketing a film as it
can completely change the way the film is marketed. For example, a PG
rated film might release with a range of toys and other merchandise
targeted towards its young audience.A film rated 15 targeted towards teens
would focus is merchandising on t-shirts and posters as teens are much
more likely to buy these than toys. Gender is also important, especially with
animated films such as Frozen which will have a young audience of mostly
girls, so the marketing team will need to focus on what this audience is likely
to buy.
4. The Hangman trailer we created is targeted at ages 15+ due to its violence
and horrifying scenes. Choosing to target the film at ages 12 would not be a
good idea since we want to make gore and violence a big part of the trailer
and film.
We created a poster and magazine cover for the films marketing process.
My poster contains information of the films release date, social media, and
shows the Hangman antagonist. The tagline my poster uses is ‘EnjoyYour
Stay’ which relates to the trailer since it is about a group of friends going on
a trip and staying at a holiday park.
Having the film advertised on the front cover of a magazine boosts the
amount of attention it will receive since the audience wont have to buy the
magazine to know about the film but they can to find out more.

6. I decided to give my poster a very simple look so the audience aren't
overwhelmed with information. I decided to use red for the main
title as it links to the main title in our trailer, it also connotes danger
represents blood. I added a blood effect onto the main image of
Hangman which helps convey the films genre to the audience.
I got inspiration for my poster from the Scream 4 poster andThe
Final Destination poster. Both posters have only the important
information on them which I took inspiration from, their main
images are also kept simple on a black background like mine. The
scream poster features the main antagonists mask which also is
portrayed as his knife too. This is what I took inspiration from when
deciding to show the main antagonist and a noose which plays on
the Hangman title.
I also took
inspiration from
the two posters
tagline which
directly relate to
their films. So I did
the same.
7. I got my inspiration from multiple Empire andTotal
Film magazines. I took inspiration from the layouts
of their covers and adapted the idea into my own
layout. My main image is of the trailers antagonist
‘Hangman’ which is also the title of the film. I used
things like ‘World Exclusive’ and a tagline to engage
the audience and make them want to read the
magazines article on Hangman.
